Mr. Webb how could you leave out humour. When Lacey first met Michael and he pretended not to notice her by looking at the cupboard, then, when he finally acknowledged her, he called her 'Lettuce'. Also, when Lacey asked Mr. Cephas if Michael could travel with them to Sooklal and when he agreed Michael hugged Lacey but Lacey said; "He smelled like a ram goat but she didn't want to spoil his happiness" I found those part hilarious
There's also humour in the exchanges between Uncle Leroy and Lacey. He says her leaving is good as he cannot feed both her abd Carlyle. Also he calls her garden 'the plantation' and dubs her the Min. of Agriculture.
It would be so nice if you could do a video on Berry if you haven't, all these other videos on berry doesn't help me to understand the story with a deeper meaning. You're the only youtuber I have found that explains things well. Every story and Poem I come to this channel. I have a literature exam tomorrow on Berry, Dreaming Black Boy, Test match Sabina Park and Man of the house. So I'm looking forward to you overviewing berry 😭
Hi. Good question! The name could definitely be symbolic of the flamboyant (in her hair and makeup, especially) and arrogant lifestyle she leads, considering that a circus horse is very flashy and is made to perform in front of large audiences.
I think you're confusing devices with themes. There are many instances of racism in the novel, and it would be good to remember a few quotes related to that.
