@@brucebell7623 he is doing my heads and intake. Dude is king for us budget guys. His port work on flow numbers are unreal for the price! Kills any intake on the market!!!
I could watch Ford 5.0 based videos ALL day long!! I'm happy to see that CHP is still heavily involved in the old pushrod 5.0 Windsor engine! I still can't bring myself to convert to the overhead cam based engine. I like the brute off idle on up torque that pushrod engines deliver.
"Now I could throw a socket in there....that's for you Ed". LMFAO!! My wife and I were watching this vid and when that part came up she's like, wtf does that mean? I laughed my ass off because I knew what it meant and who it was for. Holy shit, that was funny AF! Great Vid guys, loved the manifold comparison, now if you could just test a stock manifold that could fit a 7/8 socket, we could compare it to the Holley SM2 :)
i love that it doesn't have a blower, not everyone has a blower, but some have setups like this. Ibelieve that a 302 needs the holley for a fuel injection intake for air because you can use 11 to 1 with a long rod and big cam and the AFR 186cc heads, i believe it works with a vic jr. or other nice intake well, maybe not the funnel web, but maybe an epoxied funnel web with narrower yet taller runners. my long rod 5.7" rod destroker 11.5 to1 MAHLE piston ,293 cid is going to use Trick Flow 11 R-SERIES 190cc heads, custom ground cam based on a Lunati solid roller high efficiency cam with lobes for a mopar, with mopar sized hydraulic roller lifters, and either a ported performer RPM or weiand tunnel ram with epoxied narrowed and ported taller runners. this is a street engine, its going into a 1981 camaro that has fox body tubular suspension front and rear and an 8.8 axle., the transmission a 5 speed, manual rack and pinion steering. The brakes are a manual pump manual master cylinders disc brakes super long pedal setup, levered all the way top of where the dash would be, with the rod closer to a gearbox fulcrum generating thousnads of pounds of pressure, the components are chromoly steel and fastened to a tubular frame with foot box. 40 gallon fuel tank, maybe 2 or more of them.
Damn, reminds me of my build. 347 with afr 185s and edelbrock rpm 2 intake manifold w/70mm tb . Then switched over to the holley systemax but didn't dyno. Would have made some power but i ordered the wrong cc chamber (72cc) which killed my compression. Cam 224/230 - 544/544 @ 112 ls. Made 323 rwh through the T5. 1 5/8 long tubes, O/H pipe. 13.00 @ 107mph short shifting and 2.0 60ft
Well this pretty much convinced me there's basically no reason to port my GT40 lower intake with my AFR 165's on my current stock bottom end build. It didn't even gain much with more cubic inches that would obviously want more air than my 302. It did carry that peak power out to higher RPM but I think i'll just leave it un-ported and save some $ there. If i ever go 331 with a rebuild eventually that Systemax looks like just the ticket, great intake.
gr8 video CHP...I'm doing the same build can I use a ford e303 mild camshaft along with afr 165 heads also did you guys used stud or pedestal mounted 1.6 or 1.7 roller rockers.....and was the internal external balanced and if external balanced what weight did the flywheel and harmonic balanced used in build
Im looking into buying your ford 331 pro street short block. My set up will be identical to the one in this video. AFR 165s and a systemax intake.. i havent decided on what cam yet. I will be running a vortech si trim around 9 psi. What precautions can i take to be easy on the block? Like not rev over 6k rpm? It will be tuned on holley terminator x, which is up and running currently on a stock 302 bottom end. Thanks in advance and hoping to do business with you guys soon.
Love that you guys do these videos for your customers. If you ever get a chance I would love to see the trickflow "box R" intake vs the holley high ram intake on a naturally aspirated windsor. There is just no dyno tests out there on these two intakes right now?
I have a buddy with a 333 Stroker engine in his 67 Fastback. It was custom built, he can't show me a build sheet. He keeps quoting me 500hp but then I saw the dyno sheet and it made 470hp without accessories. Does this seem like a realistic output for a 333 stroker on pump gas?
Actually you can't beat the BARGAIN of the explorer intakes!! With careful porting they are great! I can't justify spending the overpriced cost people are asking for the USED GT40 INTAKES! The marginal improvement the GT40 and the so called improved looks don't Justify the extra cost! I'd spend the extra money on the legendary Systemax intake or a nice Trickflow. AT LEAST I'd have some extra room for growth. Just my 2 cents. Either way great to see the results!!
Great video I would love to see you dyno a 347 with 185afr heads and a new style edelbrook efi intake and a 75 mm throttle body, as for camshaft Something for a naturally aspirated engine on a 110 lobe separation
They have several 347 videos. Not the exact combo you requested, but here's one that is very impressive. . . .ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gXeqO_yekbk.html
Do you think having a shaped inlet for the throttle body would help airflow? Nobody runs without some sort of tubing and filter on those and it's the same reason you use shaped inlet when flowing cylinder heads.
I'm going to be purchasing my 347e (smog legal) from you guys. I'm going to have you guys put the 185 AFR'S, I also want a forged crank. I have a tubular GT40 upper and lower I'm going to get rid of. I'm going to top your motor you build me with a re-released kenne bell 2.1
I have a bone stock 302 with a Vortech S Trim and have some brand new AFR165s . Should I sell these and get 185s ? If I stick with the 165s what cam would you guys recommend? Thanks guys ! Love the videos
What cam was in there. Building 331for 65 mustang....for my wife. So big hp not necessary but that sounded great. 331 auto and 355s. Motor trans rear end out of 96 explorer
thanks for the test. I have the same motor and intake with a vortec 13 LB supercharger. coud you estimate the horsepower for me please. I ask this as no one here has the software to use on the dyno.
Should have had Bigdogs Porting port the upper and lowers on both gt40 style manifolds. The results would have been a lot different. Running stock uppers on mildy ported gt40 lowers will not gain much at all we have seen this on the dyno as well. Our testing shows only a 10-15cfm gain once bolted together. This is why tests like this don't represent what a good ported gt40 style manifold can do. Fully port that Explorer gt40 upper and lower and shorten the runners to raise the rpm peak and it would run circles around the mildly ported Systemax 2.
again lack of info here ,ex: injectors size , timing set up, headers tube size , oil grade, rockers ratios , if you want to do this more presicion guys, so less questions after!
Yeah, typically it's a 114 or 116...also 9.9:1 C/R not really built for boost (bit high). Nonetheless great giving a 331 some dyno love and over 400hp is quite nice.
Fast burn with good quench CNC AL heads on a SBWF usually about 32-34 N.A. More at 32 deg. all-in at 3500rpm - NOT 36 ! Pull and read read a couple plugs every 5 second WOT if you are looking for that last degree for HP on pump gas. if you see aluminum, your done, and back down 2 degrees. I would also go for short nose plugs and start colder to boot. Autolite copper core with inconel ground- not NGK whatever core and whatever meltaway grounds! Enjoy! - Sandy
@@coasthighperformance7908 Thanks for replying. Mine i believe is around 9.5:1 Its a 306 stock block , stock crank , comp nitrous ground cam duration 282/294 lift 565/580 lobe separation 114 . Power rang is 2600 to 6400 rpm . Edelbrock performer rpm aluminum heads - edelbrock performer air gap intake , 1.6 roller rockera . Speed pro power forged pistons. Its not been deck yet or had any porting done. What compression do you think its has and would you have a horse power guess ? Backed up by built c4 164 tooth . Trans brake , stall is 3200 thinking of getting a 4000 . 8.8 rear with 4.10 gear
I'm going to sound crass by saying this and I don't mean to but honestly guys....that's not porting. I have a ported Cobra manifold that's actually ported. I assure you the results are not the same.
The "socket" comment... look here, you tell your buddy to bring his his ported intake, and his upper..oh wait, he doesn't do ported upper intakes because he doesn't know how! But if he ever figures it out.. him and the other snake oil "custom cam" guy,. they can team up with ported stuff and I'll bring an off the shelf cam and gaurantee you they're parts and cam are shit! You guys should be careful who you joke about.. Ill never use any of your services for that reason. The guy you joke about, the "socket" comment, I have his stuff and its top notch port work. Where is Ed's port work?
