I love these little Fords. They are low deck, lightweight, and fit in a small engine bay. You can low budget one and get 300 - 350 horsepower with the stock heads. Use main cap studs or a girdle for high rpm. This is a cool build. Excellent job guys .

Show me a big power n/a Ford small windsor build that don't. You think this build is expensive, try the same thing on a 318 mope ...I mean there is not a reason as the 318 and 360 are very close in hight. A 302 is a very short deck engine that's the reason for the stroker kit. So it cost a lot to play the displacement game. It's not like going forced induction is that much cheaper plus to build a small windsor to live a long life of being beat you need to make sure the machining and assembly are good even on a simple bolt on turbo kit. If you want to skirt some of the fancy things you can. I'd start with a 99-2000 explorer 5.0 and keep the edis ( electronic distributorless ignition ) run a crank trigger, use good heads , good nitrous cam and a msd box. Pill it till ya kill it and go get another junk yard block.

Forgot to mention the crank rear seal installation and they didn't check the clearance between the oil pickup and the bottom of the oil pan, a major fubar since this is very important to be sure the oil pan does not suck up to the pickup. The composite distributor gear would have been a better choice to use versus the Bronze gear. The bronze gear will need replaced after a while of use, where the composite gear will not wear like the bronze gear will. Lots of excitement getting 500hp, when for about the same cost you could have built a 408 stroker and easily exceeded 500hp.

Nope not with a stock block 347 kit. A 331 sure, better rod angle better rotational harmonics etc but you don't wanna run even 650hp threw a stock HO block they have a tendancy of splitting in half at the lifter valley. With the poor harmonics and radical rod angle of a 347 in a stock block I dout you could run 5lbs boost or even 560hp at the crank before she split in half.

Sticking with a 332" (3.25" x 4.030") ends up making more power and being generally more durable than the larger 347" stroker due to the better rod to stroke ratio. I run custom length 5.5" rods in my 332", so the rod to stroke ratio is 1.69:1, which is what a stock 302 has. Longer piston dwell times and less piston side load on the cylinder walls means more efficiency and longevity. Also, when building a stroker, (or any high hp 302) the pre-1983(you can tell from the 2-piece rear seal vs 1-piece rear seal) 302 blocks weigh 120 lbs, whereas their newer counterparts only weigh 80 lbs. That extra 40 lbs of cast material was removed mostly from the main bearing support area of the block in the new castings, and Ford did that to help lighten the nose on the Mustang fox bodies for better handling. The end result is, a heavier older 302 block can "reliably" handle upwards of 800-850hp, while the newer 5.0 blocks can only deal with 450-500 before they fail.(that's assuming you run a billet steel main stud girdle) p.s. The Race Demon carb series were tested on a dyno vs various performance fuel injection systems, and the Race Demons actually made more HP and much to the surprise of everyone, also outperformed fuel injection on low end torque too. Barry Grant knows how to build a carb. This is why I always suggest the Barry Grant RD carbs over any other Holley style carb.

Great to see as I'm in the middle of doing a 347 build. The "order up some pushrods they'll be with you next day" thing unfortunately not so easy if you live in the UK. More like three weeks. And then there's duty to pay on top of shipping before you can actually take delivery. (Expensive). We do have some really good helpful American speed parts stockists here in the UK but they can't stock everything a huge US company like summit can unfortunately.

What about checking the intake clearance between it and the 'China walls"? I had an issue with mine being too big, had to get .030 shaved off the intake runners to lower the intake into the wedge created by the cylinder heads. This was need due to the decking of the block (.010), which changed the geometry of the cylinder head placement relative to each other and the intake. Overall, I wish I never took on building a Windsor 302. I thought it was a good motor until realizing its great deficiencies of main webbing strength (almost all stock blocks crack) and its small deck height creates major side-loading issues that prematurely wear out the cylinder bores in stroked applications. If you must build a stroker' Windsor, use the .030 pistons and a slightly less radical stroke than what the 347 requires to minimize side-loading. 347's require your piston compression height to be so small that your require a ring bridge to support the oil rings, makes you wonder about if exaggerating the stroke so much to get to 347ci is worth it long-term.

@thedon3836
@thedon3836 4 года назад
@@1320crusier no no it wouldnt. I'll explain. 1964-1966 427 sohc aka big daddy cammer engine was built off of the FE engine block family 427 side and top oiler engine blocks. They were super rev happy being over head cam and many blew up because they had no real tells that they were being over revved like pushrod engines do as it was. They were designed for racing and having gobs of boost added to them hence the 90° crank. Flat plain cranks do not fair well with boost they snap under to much cylinder pressure. Switching to a flat plain from a 90 degree would make it rev even faster sure but it would also make them over rev faster and you would only keep it na at that point and probably less compression and power over all. Timing gears pass damaging rotational harmonics into the very hard but very brittle cams and they would shatter over 6000rpm which is why you don't see timing gears in high rpm large displacement engines and mostly only see them in low rpm diesels. All that plus your talking about an engine stock that costs more then most people's homes and that's if you can even find one. So again what you are talking about is an under educated pipe dream. Sorry but that's the truth.
