Man, I wish that they had kept the 335 series running here in the US as long as they did in Australia. Those falcons are bad lol! I’m working on a 400 for my 65 Galaxie, these videos are great!

hi you want a tip drill a hole in the oil galley plug .05 to get oil to the timing chain that timing gear looked dry mate the one you took out..

Hey Clevo King.. thanks for the tips and the instruction it made my build much easier. I have a quick tip for you as well. When I am installing a cam I weld a bolt to a length of pipe the same length or longer than the cam so I can thread in the bolt and have a long lever to guide the cam easily into place. This is really helpful when motor is still in car but also on a stand. Allows for so much more control of the camshaft.

@@thclevoking hi clevo king love the channel I had a 351 cleveland built standard stroke I'll pulled the engine out as it was popping through the carby and found out it was a cam lobe had new rings bearings gaskets new new cam and lifters put in the engine builder came out to start the engine in ran it in for 30 minutes all seemed ok I went to start the engine the next day and noticed it was popping through the carby again I pulled of the inlet manifold and noticed 4 valves are bearded moving could it be another cam lobe failure any help would be appreciated thanks mate

@@charliesammut4185 it very well could be. My trick is to record the rocker action with a phone and watch it back a dozen or so times to pick up if a lobe is gone watching each head. If you can tell it’s not moving as much and the pushrod isn’t bent it’s more then likely lobes

@@charliesammut4185 it’s very common at the moment unfortunately, heaps of lifters slipped through that were not properly heat treated. It’s causing a lot of headaches

Great job and explaining everything... can you please explain more about cam dialling and how to use cam dialling tool... also about distributor leads; how to run them to spark plugs order... keep up the good job guys...👍

Yes mate I will do a video on just dialing in a cam and I’ll do one on setting up a dizzy and base timing and the leads eventually too, thanks for the suggestions mate

I have a 1974 Ford Ranchero GT with a 351 Cleveland C2 engine. I think it jumped timing because a friend of mine was trying to adjust the points and he broke the spring off of the intake manifold that keeps tension on the distributor as well as the mounting bolt. The engine has been rebuilt right before I bought the truck it has about 68000 miles on it since the engine rebuild. I was wanting to know if you have a shop here in the United States because I'm in North Carolina. I would like for you guys to go through the whole engine for me if possible

Trickflow or CHI 2v mate but I hear the new AFD heads are not far away and I am very interested to get some when they are available

It can be done in the car it’s just easier on a stand to redo the sump gasket and be able to spin it around

Do you recommend replacing the cam thrust bearing on a new rebuild? My dad always said he did on Cleveland’s to prevent cam walk and eating up the distributor gear.

You have to check the end float if it’s too much a new plate is needed.

8.4-8.5” is stock lengths, I like the Comp xe274H camshafts to really wake up an original motor.

I noticed you’ve put the thrust washer for the cam in the wrong way. My book says grooves to face timing chain. I have done a lot of research on this and even rang a engine shop as I was paranoid google also says grooves to face timing chain and a few people on Facebook say the opposite. Have you had any problems ?

I have two dozen clevos here in my collection and out of the 6 that have the timing covers off I am fiddling with they all had the grooves towards the block to let oil bleed from the front bearing back to the chain. I don’t think it hurts to go backwards as I have undone one that way and it was fine. If you have an old plate you will easily see the indents from the small nuts that hold it in it’s more important to line it up with the exisiting grooves worn in.

1971 Mustang Mach 1 351 Cleveland how do I know if the timing. Went bad the car ran at idle and then all sudden started spit and sputter and now it won't start at all !!!!

Take the dizzy cap off and turn the engine over in normal direction and then stop and turn it backwards if it takes a while to engage the timing chain is loose. Alternatively you can undo the fuel pump or block off plate and peak at it and it will be obvious

The expensive sets are great for a sweet noise and being very precise to fit but they don’t really have much adjustment for dialling in a large cam. I use a set in one of my motors and I love it but not everyone can handle the constant whine they make.

They are great if you have a tuner that can rebuild them and has plenty of parts, and if you can find two identical ones. The problem is most of the old ones have been modified in some way already and it’s hard to get two minters to even get rebuilt and tuned to begin with. Heaps of people say they are better but not many have the right tools to get them set up and flowing right.
