My truck is red truck just identical to yours except mine the 250 is an 2001 model. Like you when I first got it, it was pouring fuel all over the motor. And friend of mine come down from Dallas to East Texas where I live to visit his mother and grandmother and he came by and said he could fix it in just a few seconds. so I let him he put an o-ring on the end of that rubber ring that you called what they put in yours. However, what they put on mine was cone shaped. but it would not stop the leak. when he put the o-ring on to fit the copper that was going into it he only tightened it up with his hands and barely tightened the wrench up less than a quarter of a turn it has not leaked since and that was 5 years ago. And I'm very particular of the fuel I run as well.So I don't have to worry about it being dirty. Great show enjoyed what you showed us. Keep up the great work.

Question for you sir. On the back of oem fuel bowl on the bottom where people use port for pressure sensor. What size tork or Allen is it to take plug out. I would love to do a fuel bowl delete I’m not confident enough to do it. Thanks for great videos
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels Год назад
I’m not sure what size it is. I’d imagine a standard size that would be in a set.
@Nick_Sorenson
@Nick_Sorenson Год назад
I would guess the most common problem with the Fuel Pressure Regulator return fitting may have to do with (over)torque. I know I over-torqued mine and sheered it. I initially (and mistakenly) saw it as a flare fitting (metal to metal connection like in plumbing or brakes) and torqued it good... so it wouldn't leak. After breaking it I realized that it's a rubber compression fitting and really doesn't need much torque. Just pay attention to where the rubber compression gasket in there sat and put it back the same way. I'm sure there's a torque spec but I will just say in my experience... it's a half turn or so beyond finger tight.

Hi joe I'm still having fuel leak it's you definitely 100% coming from the fuel water valve on my 7.3 turbo diesel I replace the valve and the new valve leaks and all the same spots it doesn't Leak with a gaskets are it leaks at the bottom and at the top or the yellow handle is do you have any suggestions? I was thinking fuel pressure regulator or the fuel and water Port that's right next to the wastegate valve the plugin has the connection for the bowl heater and water sensor
@jamesb1988
@jamesb1988 Год назад
8:46 I pulled the fuel line that plugs into the FPR (and the fuel line below it too) when I was trying to make room to reach the HPOP outfittings with a wrench... could not replacing the Orings cause my truck to idle rough? Like choppy? No codes. All the other numbers look good.
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels Год назад
The fuel line below is the feed line so maybe you have some air in the system but all in all, neither of those should really cause it to run rough. Depending on what you did with the HPOP that is definitely something that could make it run rough.
@itswhatitis8364

good video. you’ve been a solid resource for everything about this truck. call me crazy, but i actually ended up running a super duty 7.3 fuel system from electric pump to bowl to hpop reservoir on my obs. reason being is that, while the super duty bowls have their problems, they’re cleaner and easy to access compared to the obs bowls and mechanics lift pumps. plus, i had it at my disposal from a 7.3 and it cost about 100 bucks to rebuild it completely through diesel o rings. so i don’t see it leaking anytime soon, but it’s a good, cheap step in the right door if i ever wanted to do a bowl delete and regulated return. this way i wasn’t spending a ton of money up front, and i’m already getting healthier fuel pressure to the truck. i’m not going for speed either so i think it’ll be beneficial

Hey Josh, appreciate your content! Great stuff I've purchased the same CNC fuel line kit but didn't come with any of those "o-rings". Does that 4 line kit require them? Can't really find a definitive answer anywhere. TIA for your help 💪🏼
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels 4 года назад
The CNC kit does not need the special Orings. those are specifically for the stock fuel lines. If you are keeping the stock fuel bowl then you will still be using them on the feed and return line but thats it.

@@matthew070177 I've seen it done but I would not recommend it. They get pretty torn up with removal and installation. That being said, I dont think you need to remove the fuel bowl to install the 4 line kit. So then you wouldn't have to worry about replacing them.

Cool channel man, what are your thoughts on propane injection for a daily driver/overland rig. I’m considering a 7.3 van to convert to a 4x4 camper. I like the idea of better burn. Saw a vid on power stroke help. The set up he recommended is no longer available though.
@LivingOnWheels

To be completely honest I don't know enough about it to say one way or another. I've looked into it and heard both good and bad. The pro's are very intriguing to me but I am not sure if I trust it enough to run on my daily driver, but that is also because My truck is my only rig.

Yeah, I think PSH mentioned low to mid 20’s MPG. the system he mention supposedly needed several parameters to met before it would release the juice. I just purchased a 2002 f350 dulley with the 7.3. Love the truck. Hear great thing about the 7.3. I notice that under full throttle, it spits and sputters. It doesn't do it of course under nice easy throttle. Any recommendations?
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels Год назад
My first instinct would be to to check fuel and HPOP pressure. Having a good way to monitor your truck is very useful. Its not cheap but what I have run on my last 3 trucks is the Edge CTS with added sensors for fuel pressure and EGTs. This allows you to monitor basically every sensor on your truck and be able to pull codes as well. I honestly think it will save you money in the long run because it allows you to better diagnose things. Edge CTS: amzn.to/3Vh3PRI Sensor Bundle: amzn.to/3EE5M3y

For the viton rubber thing I would just slide it to the end of the line, put the nut over it and then tighten it down. There is also an O-ring that goes on the back side of the regulator that if I remember correctly had a pretty obvious cutout for it.

Thanks for the info it’s good to know. I have an 01 7.3 and I have to cycle my glow plugs about 3 times before I start it when it’s cold. Any ideas what could cause that?
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels 5 лет назад
It's either that you have bad glow plugs or your glow plug relay is out. The relay is super easy to test and the glow plugs aren't too bad to check through the valve cover harness.
@hillsautohome346
@hillsautohome346 5 лет назад
How cold are we talking? From my long term experience with cold weather and 7.3's it comes down to way more than functioning glow plugs. My bank 2 plugs have been shot for a few years and I still can start with one cycle 99.8% of the time. This living in MT and CO. Really good batteries, starter, upgraded HPOP and using Cetane boost with anti gel helps a lot.
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels 5 лет назад
@@hillsautohome346 I agree with you on all of that. Good batteries make a very big difference. If it is getting cold enough to worry about fuel gelling then additive should be considered mandatory at that point. Obviously, a brand new or upgraded HPOP helps as well as running synthetic oil. All that said, from my experience fresh plugs that work makes a huge difference on cold startups. Even old worn out trucks can start reliably with a healthy glow plug system. The question of how cold is important though.

As you can tell from my comment I am not very learned on the 7.3 ford power stroke engine. I finally came across you video, and WHAM, there was the answer I have been hunting for. So my question to you is this, if I eliminate the fuel bowl, what mods or changes do I have to do? I have been trying to find out why I am losing fuel out of this “ drain line” . The truck does not get driven very much, and I fired it up today to let it run and charge the batteries, circulate the fluids, etc. Saw something leaking profusely on the passenger side of the engine. Okay , after some checking things out I found this drain line, but could not determine where the hell it was originating from. Didn’t pull anything from the engine to further investigate without trying to determine what , why and where this line starts stops. Is this a common issue? What caused it to dump the fuel, and how do I repair it??? Your feedback is MUCH APPECIATED!
@LivingOnWheels
@LivingOnWheels Год назад
Yes this is a very common thing on the 7.3s. It’s just old o-rings that have failed cause the fuel bowl to leak out of the drain valve on the back of the fuel bowl. Unless you’re planning on doing a lot of modifications to the truck I would keep the factory bowl in place. I actually have a video series on how to completely rebuild/reseal your fuel bowl. Not a bad job at all. I’ll link that below for you to check out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kpOGmcrM3oo.html
