Kevin over at Junkyard Digs sent me a text saying he had a few cars that he needs to get rid of because he is out of room so I ended up with this non-running Ford Bronco II fresh from his parents yard where it has been stored for years. After a new battery and testing the fuel pump can I get it to have it's first start in many years.

There must be thousands of neglected projects like this around the country, some of them are lucky enough to fall into the hands of someone who knows what he's doing! Nice work, Steve!

Miss my 90' B2. Had a D35, a lift, chop top, headers, and a manual swap after the A4LD commited suicide. Somehow it made it to 250k miles until I wheeled it on just 2 quarts of oil lol. What a great truck.

Those 2.9L engines have no guts whatsoever but also they won't stop running. My 89 sat for 3 years, stabil in the gas and started right up. Drove it on the car hauler to where it is now at my new place. I swapped out the running gear with a 94 Expolder. 3.73 gearing & still a dog except when in four low has plenty of power.

Had a 89 Ranger 2.9 4x4. Engine out twice: at 102k, due partly drilled oil hole needed rod bearings. Ford dealer supplied crank had oversized counterweights which scraped piston skirts when warm. Developed same lifter tick at 120k. Fix Or Repair Daily!

Yes there is a low pressure pump in the tank as well. I was told they replaced both pumps but since the rear one is not working and the fuel gauge does not work I am wondering if they did the rear pump at all. We will find out soon!

I've been working on a b2 as well - moved it around the house and let it sit for a few months and when I went back to start it the ignition switch, key cylinder, inertia switch, AND on-line fuel pump were dead. I've never had so many things break on me at the same time lol

These do have a problem with the stupid clip inside the steering column. You may need to remove it and make sure the big plastic switch on the right side is still held tightly.

Steve, I'd love to see a video about how long gas can last in an old car and what you do about it. You seem to crank 'em over and have good luck, do you check the gas in any way first?
@edwardmulder3777
@edwardmulder3777 2 года назад
With some vehicles that have sat for 20 years or more the fuel often smells bad, plus there could be rust in it from the fuel tank, thereby clogging the fuel filter and also if stood long enough without running the carb could be contaminated and the fuel lines could also be bad , so empty the fuel tank, replace the fuel lines, clean out the carbie, change the fuel pump if necessary , make sure uve got spark to the plugs and it should start , unless of course it sat so long the rings corroded to the cylinders and pistons then u need to go through a whole other procedure

'88 or older, '89's are a different body style. '89's use a single fuel pump in the tank, '88 and older uses a low pressure pump in the tank and the high pressure pump in the frame rail under the driver seat.

Sorry but that takes effort to screw up the wiring when you only have two colors to choose from. Those are probably fun but at least the early ones make for poor highway vehicles. I had an '84, the very first one, with a carbed 2.8L V6. Way underpowered, and much too thirsty for such a small engine. The only worse car I recall driving was a 1984 Fiero 2M4.

I had this exact year and color I loved this truck but I had a fuel delivery problem it would just die going down the road and I had three mechanics look at it and could not fix it someone before May really messed the wiring up and no one could figure it out and added some sort of aftermarket computer I would still have it if I could have fixed it.
@ThisWeekWithCars
@ThisWeekWithCars 2 года назад
These have a problem with the wiring in the steering column, I would bet the issue was there, the connector is terrible and can vibrate loose causing the fuel pump to randomly stop. I thought I was going to find that issue with this one but it was the actual pump instead.
