Own a 2017 Crosstrek. It gets stupid good MPG in city and hwy. I’m in the south and driving in the rain is amazing with this type of AWD. Almost like magnets holding you to the ground. 95lb Dog and she fits fine in back seat for short and long trips.

I think a better comparison would be between the Ford Bronco Sport, and the Subaru Forester. They are both boxy CUV, similar in price, and similar in size.

How is the CVT in the Crosstrek inadequate? Be specific.

Exactly the two vehicles I'm considering. I do think the Bronco Sport is a little overpriced and would have to get the Badlands for my needs. If I choose the Crosstrek well it would be the Wilderness edition. Milage isn't really a consideration since I don't drive much every year anymore. I just can't believe the price difference. However there are no Subaru dealers nearby and that's the big bummer even though it has much better reliability. In the end I prefer the Bronco Sport but can't justify the price.

I look at it this way, you spend a lot of money on any new or even used vehicle. Unless you’re buying a classic Lamborghini or a Ferrari then you are going to lose money as it’s not an investment. So given that information I always go with what is more reliable. Why spend all that money only to have to spend more money in repairs later just because you wanted something pretty.

Until you mentioned it in the last few minutes of your video, I realized that there is no channel on RU-vid that actually definitively tests headlight nighttime performance across brands/models, not even subjectively based on an aggregate of brightness, visibility, angle, range, and features. That might just be your RU-vid niche if you can figure out a good formula and format for testing! That being said, I find Subaru's adaptive headlights to be lowkey the best non-luxury vehicle headlights in the market. They should definitely market it more, it's incredible.

Great feedback, much appreciated. Actually, I drive a 2024 Outback as my personal vehicle, same lighting system, and definitely agree -- it's quite good. I think the Mazda system has a slight edge on brightness and color though. Cheers from north Ontario!

Small turbo engines may give you more HP, but are over stressed and have more issues in long run. Also why compare the Bronco and Crosstrek when the Forester is a better comparison?

I've owned numerous cars with small turbo engines that lasted just as long as non-turbocharged engines. One of them was the most reliable car I ever owned. Well, your sentiment might be correct and some applications, the fact that an engine is turbocharged does not necessarily mean it will I have more issues in the long run. I chose to compare the Bronco Sport and Crosstrek because it is a very popular search term, indicating what plenty of people are also making this comparison and seeking answers.

Until Subaru gets rid of the CVT they will never match up with other competitors. Most people that buy these kind of vehicles, they are used off road at least a bit and that CVT is just unacceptable off road.

I’ve owned two Fords and I confirm it does not last long, they are designed to fail. But both times the purchase price was way lower. Japanese car were more expensive and financed at a higher rate, which makes a big difference at the end of the month. I still don’t know if I should have done a different choice.

Idk, I sold my 2005 Ford Escape after 16 years and saw it being driven by a pizza guy who purchased it. It has been to ND, LV, Guam, TX, and MD. I have a 2010 F150, still going. Just purchased a 2023 Bronco Sport Badlands after my 2020 Escape was cruelly murdered by a dumbass who hit my car parked while he was on his phone. So, I guess your milage may vary but for the most part I am happy. Not saying Fords are perfect and I am in no way a fanboy.

I can attest to similar results. I own a Lexus daily driver and a Toyota truck for those who might think I’m a Ford fanboy… my last few Fords in order: 02 Powerstroke 7.3 had over 300,000 when sold to a friend and is currently over 400k trouble free. 91 Mustang GT still owned and has over 140,000 miles on the stock shortblock. The only one I had poor luck with was my 02 F150 Lightning and I still managed to get 150,000 miles out of that before selling it to get the diesel. These were all larger sized Ford engines though. I don’t have much trust for their small displacement engines.

I think your towing claim for the Crosstrek is incorrect. You claim a capacity of 3500 pounds. I think that is for the Wilderness version only. It should be 1500 pounds. The Bronco is so ugly. The Crosstrek looks much better.
