In this video, I talk about my C6 rebuild and what literature I used for specs and information. I also provide some information on the wide ratio kit I bought from PATC and also reveal what I did to fully rollerized the transmission as much as possible. Everything that I used for this rebuild "recipe" is reviewed here. I have another video(Part 2) that explains how I performed the assembly and clearance.

To say this is helpful is an understatement. Do you think this is beyond a beginner's abilities? Assuming they use the Haynes and the TCI "yellow" book? Thanks for posting. Hope you're enjoying the Mustang.

I can't really speak about "beginner's ability" but if you are cautious and detailed, I don't see why this couldn't be done by anyone paying attention.

I agree that yellow C4 - C6 book is not the best and can lead to problems for someone that has not rebuilt a transmission before. It leaves some things out and is unclear in places. Those Motor Manuals are really good if you can find one.

Ebay is the best place I have found for any ol school auto literature. The Motors manuals are very thorough and have a lot of descriptions with photos. Can't say enough about them. Whenever I was concerned about anything, the Motors manual is where I would turn to

I've been rebuilding C- 6 transmissions since 1977 I was 13 years old now I'm 59 years old ,,, just do the job right ,,, no need to go over bord with high preforming crap BUT !!!!! IF YOU TAKE THE E4 O D FRONT HUB GEAR AND IMPLANT IT IN THE C 6 ,,,,,,YOU WILL SUPRISE YOUR BUDDY IN THE OTHER STRIP GREEN LIGHT BY LEAVING THE LIGHT FASTEST THAN HIM , AFTER THAT,,,! YOUR C- 6 will go back to just another good OL C-6 , AND YOUR BUDDY WILL BE THINKING YOU ARE CHEETIN 😁 hint,,, since the E4OD is a 4 speed , the shell gear and planet gear is lower AND will launch the car off very quickly and leave your buddy in the behind , :::: it's called ' a quick fix for your sick C-6. Yeah, I bought the wide ratio kit online. I believe it consists of the parts you are talking about. I know I went "overboard" with the roller bearings and little tweaks but I enjoyed the challenge. It's weird but I really find it therapeutic to assemble and disassemble the gearsets and check for clearances and operation 🤷🏼‍♂️ In any case, I just hope people like yourself can get value from the stuff I put out there

Louis I’d love to pick your brain on this c6 I’m about to dive into. It’s behind a 6.9 idi ford diesel. Got a messed up reverse (says the previous owner).

@@roughready7491 hint,,,,if your C6 has a reverse problem is either a very simple problem like the shift rod , BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE THE DIRECT CLUTCH IS GOING OUT ( THAT IS WHAT WHAT HOLDS THE REVERSE CLUTCH PACK ) BUT ! IT CULD BE THE REVERSE CLUTCH PACK IT SELF , WITCH IS PROBABLY THE BEST ( R ) PACK IN THE WORLD

@@Louis-kk3to 39 years ago I managed to weld the C6 direct clutch plates together pushing through heavy snow upgrade in low gear with tire chains in a 73 T Bird for 6 miles. The T Bird made it home, but the transmission did not survive. The output shaft got so hot it turned blue. 😔

No need for a bearing of that forward ring gear hub. It is locked in all forward gears anyway. It can be rollered using a T350 bearing and leaving a small locating shoulder on the inside. What you have there is the best option with the metal thrust replacing the plastic The bearing for the planet is a Sonnax GM-N-11 which is a t700 torque converter bearing. That's the one I use anyway .

Thanks for your input, Greg. In my case, the transmission is already assembled and in the vehicle waiting for the engine. So I'll be using as-is hoping it works. Yet anyone coming here can pickup a little more information to help them decide what they want to do. Always appreciate your wisdom and experience!
