Arthur Esclamada Oh, from that era, I’m not surprised. 03-06 Navigator used the cheapest leather, cheapest plastic and had garbage electronics. The 2007 to present Navigators are FAR better and their poor resale value makes it easy to get into a very good , pre-owned, large Luxury SUV for a steal of a deal like Alley McBeal clubbing a seal with an orange peel Happy Meal on the Wonder Wheel!

I had the opportunity to drive an Expedition for a few weeks. I had expectations of a big, heavy, boring vehicle, but it was quite the contrary. I truly enjoyed it very much. Lots of power, very quiet, smooth ride and very comfortable seats. The independent rear suspension made the ride much better than an F-150. They can haul lots of cargo, lots of people and can tow heavy loads. Combine that with the shorter version that made it easy to park and maneuver and it was a very impressive vehicle. They don't get the credit they deserve for being so capable. The attention always goes to the pickup trucks.

@@paulbram2 This is coming from a 50 year of experience with SHITY GM cars. If you want to live the rest of your life headache and trouble free , steer a way from any American/European cars at all! Stick with Toyota/Lexus and you will live happily forever. Yes, they usually cost a bit more than American cars when new, but they will outlast any of them and most likely your grandchildren will inherit them.
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix
@Jackmerius_Tacktheretrix 3 года назад
I had an expedition as a rental when my pickup was getting body work done a few months ago. Didn't like it. Steering was twitchy. You had to hold on tight because if you lets go or let your grip loose it would snap back to the center real quick when turning or changing lanes. Felt like it was spring loaded. Took some practice to make smooth turns and lane changes. The transmission hunted gears also, and it always shocked the hell out of me everytime I got out. The worst part was when I went to pass a slow car on a 2 lane road. I hit the gas, there was a bang followed by clicking/grinding and a bunch of warning messages on the dash. Looked like a Christmas tree. Aside from being a little quicker, our sequoia drove better and never had any of the quirks and errors the expedition had. Not to mention the 3rd row seats in the expedition wouldnt fold unless the 2nd row was upright. Even if they were slightly reclined they didn't work. Also dodnt have this problem with the sequoia. In town the fuel economy was about the same, but on the hwy the expedition averaged about 2mpg better than our sequoia, but that was negligible for the peace of mind and better steering in the sequoia. I had actually considered looking at an expedition but that rental changed that.

I have had a 2020 Expedition Max Limited rental from Enterprise for a couple months now, and will have it at least another month. I have put on 6,000 miles so far, interstate, two lane state highway, lots of curvy roads through Virginia and West Virginia and a couple times in a wilderness area that had 10 degree includes on muddy, rutted roads. This has been a real treat and has handled it all with aplomb. I have been getting 19.5 MPG, except when in the wilderness area. This vehicle has gobs of power, not just for it's size. The only issue I have had was on a steep incline and switchback, it hesitated a second to figure out what great to go in, but recovered very quick.

Why would Ford need to borrow anything from Land Rover when they have been making off-road vehicles since WW2? They made Jeeps for the US Government in WW2 along with Willys And aside from that they produced the Bronco for decades and are currently selling a new Bronco along with the F150 Raptor Land Rover 🤣
@scottboyd8892

@@joecool9739 the 4wd system on the Land Rover is a better system than Ford had. That is only one of the reasons why Ford purchased Land Rover. Just because they made 4wd vehicle doesn’t mean there isn’t better. The system on the Land Rover is possibly the best, but reliability for the rest of the vehicle is crap. But Ford does have its own issues with recalls and fit and finish now. Ford did make a Bronco II, and used a twin ibeam system at one time. Useless is what they were.

I second Angry Chili Mango. I have a 2007 EL lifted with 34" AT's and it's an amazing sleeper as in it will go almost anywhere and you can hardly tell that its been modified. You really have no idea that its lifted with big tires by looking at it unless its parked next to a jeep and then you say, huh I didn't realize Expy's could have ground clearance. Still drives great on the highway, far and away the best ride of any 4x4 overlander that I've ever been in. Stock traction control electronically locks up both the front and rear diffs. And I love the thought that goes into jenga packing overland gear into tiny spaces like a 4Runner, but for day to day adventuring I don't know how you go any smaller than a full size SUV. Its still shorter than a 4door truck, but without the bed/cab separation so you get more max capacity, better security for long term storage, can legitimately do extended overlands with 4 grown adults, don't have crap hanging off every exterior surface, and during the week you can haul 7 people with all the beach/sports gear you want. The only problem is that its so damn perfect than when it dies I just know that I'm going to spend way more money than I want to to build another one. Although when I hear numbers for other overland builds I don't really feel that bad. How did it become normal to spend 70K on a freakin car?

I used the ReadyLift 3/2 and upgraded to Bilstein B6 4600 shocks. It doesn’t feel at all top heavy and not sure if it’s more shocks, geometry, or tires but I feel like it’s a significantly smoother and tighter ride on road. Off road I have to air down if I don’t want to get beat to death, but the ground clearance is an incredible 12.5”. And yeah I’ve run it all around Death Valley, Mohave, Big Bear and people are always shaking their heads in disbelief. The fully independent suspension with massive anti sway bars does not allow for much articulation so thank goodness for those locking diffs! Also the fact that even the EL version has a shorter wheelbase than the Gladiator...what?!

Ford does have center locking diff. It's the 4x4 button. That locks the transfer case to split power. The Toyota has a center diff lock button because it's constant full time AWD. It needs that button while putting the Ford in 4 wheel drive from 2wd does this

Also when it comes time for pulling heavy loads such as a vehicle or someone out of the ditch my expedition Shines where a truck cannot get the traction to do it. The Lexus doesn't have KDSS, nor does KDSS lift or lower a vehicle. The lexus uses AHC/AVS and the Land Cruiser uses standard shocks and KDSS. The AHC/AVS on the Lexus pretty amazing for flex, ride height, comfort and reliability. As another note, the "locker" on the Ford is actually just a clutch based LSD that can clamp to lock, but it builds heat and can be overworked. Its a nice gesture from Ford for an differential they didn't have a locker for. Plus it gives you better on-road traction. Its certainly more than Toyota gives you.

Lexus all the way man, no comparison between the two vehicles in terms of off road capability. Lexus LX570 built based on the legendary Land Cruiser therefore, Lexus wins. It needs smaller wheel size and better off road tiers and that is it....Ford more focus for on road comfort and ride quality and to be fair if comparing luxurious we should put the Lexus against the Lincoln not the ford or compare the ford Expedition against the Toyota Land Cruiser...
