And only last for two years the internals are not!! To the standard of the MDX!!! Once tuners get to it I bet it would put down some serious power I bet this will have GTR like capabilities!!! Once someone wants to do it lol
They respond well to replacing those crap stock intercoolers. You get like one or two pulls and then they pull power drastically. It would be the first mod I'd do even if I never plan on tuning it.
I have a 2018 Flex with the 3.5L EB and put a 91 octane tune on it through 5 Star Tuning. It's now running almost 440hp and I'm running 5.4 sec to 60 and 13.8 second 1/4's.
Always love those family SUV races. I've owned a lot of vehicles over the years and I still feel my MDX Type-S is the best overall vehicle I've ever owned when you consider performance, features, value for dollar, etc.
The 0-60 between MDX type S and the other MDX variants is 1 sec difference. Is that precision crafted performance? 290 HP versus 355HP, the power output sounds significant but it does not seem proportional. Plus Type S is performance when it comes to the NSX but not on the MDX.
@@danielmelendez9943 , doesn’t change anything I said. Regular MDX doesn’t look as nice (different front end, smaller wheels, exhaust, etc), no massaging seats, heads up display, ambient lighting, inferior sound system, no air suspension, etc. The power is also very noticeable, I’ve had 5 MDX’s and the Type-S is far superior. You may not feel the value is there but I do and I’ve owned them all so I’m speaking from experience.
@@nickns23659 heads up display is gimmicky, massage seats not overwhelming, a great sound system definitely necessary, ambient lighting useless, at the end of the day you buy performance, agility of the suspension to provide sharp handling and steering, for sure torque vectoring that allows the car to feel nimble and agile out of corners. Thus, making it feel smaller and lighter given that the MDX is about 4800lbs. The standard MDX Is comfortable but the seats have gotten smaller when compared to my 2011 model. Type S price, well over $72k.
I have a 2020 Explorer ST. My first American car after always having Germans. It’s the first car I’m keeping when the lease ends. So much fun to drive, so much power and very practical. Has been very reliable and maintenance is super cheap. The bonus is the presence it has with everyone thinking I’m a cop.
Yes! Great match ups, very fair across the spectrum. Glad to see all three pitted against each other. Dang that 3.0L Twin Turbo Exploder really goes - especially right out of the hole. Fun to see how these stock comparos stack up. Thanks for sharing...
Hes a fkn clown. Reason why I unsubbed from this channel. Clearly the Acura destroyed the ST when in manual mode from a roll and off the line. Guy is a Ford Fangirl. On paper the Acura should be slower but it isnt.
Before I watch the video, I place the Ford #1, Acura #2, and Genesis #3. The first 2 I mentioned is definitely geared towards performance, but the Genesis is geared towards luxury first and sport a distant second. If we want "sport" in the Genesis, we will have to get the Coupé or get the smaller siblings. Small = Sport & Large = Luxury in the Genesis world unfortunately.
I would choose the GV80 any day of the week over the Ford. Clearly, the Ford lacks the opulence, luxury, refinement and attention grabbing that the Genesis has. In any of those vehicles, I won't be dag racing. Instead I would be taking long interstate journeys in powerful vehicles. The only thing the Genesis lacks is a legacy. And they are doing a great job of establishing one.
If opulence, luxury and refinement are what you desire, get the Aviator and you'll have more luxury and more juice than the Genesis. Keep in mind a fully loaded ST is going to run you $20k less than a fully loaded Genesis.
@@jdorf40the ford doesn’t have more luxury than genesis, not by a long shot. Genesis has wayyy more options and text than the Lincoln. But you will pay for it…
I dragy timed an Explorer ST. Very quick off the line, but trapped less in the 1/4 mile than my 2017 Nissan Maxima, back in the day. Tuned ones moves very fast though! The Explorer also feels and looks the coolest of this group, in my opinion.
The Aviator is based on the Ford Explorer, but with lots more luxury added, so I'm sure it would be a little slower due to the added weight of the extra amenities.
@@Av3ntur0zky if a buyer's primary concern was speed they wouldn't be buying a Genesis GV80; that thing is luxury first and foremost. So yes, it's impressive.
@timbant4287 ford is over 400hp and 415 tq. Acura is 350hp and under 350 in tq. Yes it make a difference for a car over 4000lbs and that ford just barely beat it
I have Ford escape 2013 2L Ecobost and believe me that engine is Tank on 256k km and still no other Toyota pass me while driving 😅😅😅 People’s say ford is not reliable, all vehicles are reliable it depends how you care and how you drive
Im Inspections for the Ford Assembly Plant here in Chicago where the Explorers and Aviators are manufactured and I know for sure the 3.0 TT Ecoboost is fully capable and ready for anyone 😎
@@electricbird423forester9not going to say it’s a sight to see. But when it comes to the end of the line of the production for inspection especially the ST and the Aviator Black Label. It’s love
now we gotta get some Grand Cherokee action, 5.7, maybe the 4xe models. I also am really curious to see real world drag races between the Escalade, Navigator, and Grand Wagoneer.
I agree. To be specific the third row seating Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. That's the vehicle I have. Mine is in the Summit Reserve trim with the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. Performance numbers for that is 357 horsepower along with 390 pound feet of torque. Those numbers are very competitive with the performance numbers of the mid size third row seating SUVs shown in this video. I hope in upcoming videos that involves mid-size third row seating SUVs, that the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the V8 engine would be in a few of them.
The 4xe would be in the shop under its 15th recall on filming day lol. The 5.7 thought might not be on a 4 post lift so it'll stand a better chance. Then again it could break halfway through testing because Stellantis.
@@DocR16 No it wouldn't, that doesn't even make sense. Them 4xe's get purchased by people and they rarely ever regret it. Sorry you decided to jump onto the band wagon of people who hate on Chryslers without knowledge of them.. much better cars than you think and I have a lot of experience with them. Regardless, I was talking about performance so stop whining about an entirely different topic ty.
I've owned an X5, 3 BMW coupes, 4 Mustangs, Audi A5, and more.. My 2022 Ford Explorer is fantastic. Sticks to the road like gum to a chesterfield, corners like a cat on Velcro, and often surprises other drivers.
To the GV80's benefit, it weighs 300lbs more than the MDX and it rides on 22 inch wheels vs 21 inches on the MDX. It's also tuned for a relaxed, smooth operation. So the GV80 did remarkably well in keeping up with it.
For all of us on your southern border, we'd love to see the ST and a Jeep SRT or a Durango SRT. The Mopar's are our real competition out here! And maybe a couple BMW X-M's.
explorer st is no joke my ST went consistently 12.3@111mph with 93 octane and intercooler only then I went e50 and went 11.8@116mph im got more mods now and going for 11.5 this year. and its 4 year old, not a single issue.
Good comparo and not surprised.I have watched vids on YT with guys that will tune them(they already fast)and run them at the track. They respond well to tuning and they are fast.Would be interested in adding a Durango R/T 5.7 or a 5.7 Cherokee or a Jeep SRT with the 6.4,or Durango not the hellcat, that is another league.Like this👍
@@skid126both the fx/QX and the m56 are definitely rare vehicles, I bought my 09 fx50S about 1.5 years ago, it's now sitting at 290k miles and STILL hauls azz!!! 😂 🙏🏿
naw. wife has the st and I have the type s. The st is quick, but that's IF the transmission doesn't mess up, cause it does often. 60k miles and it's been at the dealership longer than in our driveway. The amount of problems with STs is absolutely insane. No way I could own one after watching my wife go through her mess with it. Back up camera won't work, screen freezes and goes black, transmission just stops working intermittently. Car smells like sulfur. Cats have been replaced but are leaking again. Front camera replaced and recalibrated, still don't work. Alarms goes off randomly. It's quite the POS!
@@SupraManG nah man they don’t even have 3.0 Tt set up. They have the basic 3.5 engine. It has nothing to do with speed and all to do with ford discount
@@SamCarLegion Wow! You did great. The LEDs are nice and bright. Also, the timing of the lights, its much easier for drivers to launch their cars. Keep kicking ass!
Do you brake boost on the 0-60??? Type S has a launch control feature - use it. At least you id a manual 2nd gear roll race. And don't race these cars in NORMAL drive mode - it's just plain wrong.
They use the na 3.5 V6. None use the high output 3.0 The older pre-2020 modes some had the sport pack which was the former 3.5 TT but theyre rare. The new ones dont use the 3.0TT.
I doubt it mate, only the Ford Crownvics with the 4.6L SOHC 2V Modular V8 can take a real beating, don't believe me then go watch Scotty Kilmer and he'll tell you the real truth about turbo engines ingeneral.
Duh. Because it's an American car of course they gonna used it. I bet many of them are unreliable and have issues bc it's a ford. But government keep buying more. Put more hp and tq on the acura I bet it will better then a ford
It’s hard to beat an ecoboost. Ford has been refining them over 10+ years. Would like to see a luxury suv drag race if u haven’t done it. Something where they’re all in the same price range if possible.
Yet the EcoBoost engines won't outlast the good ol' NA V8, if they're so good then how come Ford didn't put the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 in the Super Duty as a base gas engine?
@@CJColvin Nothing lasts forever. If you do proper maintenance they last a very long time. I was a hard core V8 guy for a long time - had a bunch of coyote 5.0 engines in my previous F150s. I test drove the Ecoboost and it just performs effortlessly and what closed the deal was all the torque available at a very low RPM. There's no replacement for "turbo charging". The 3.5 eco boost was designed from the ground up to be a twin turbo - I knew the quality engineer on the original program - it's a tough motor.
@@toddolson7273 Tell that to the new Broncos with the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 that are blowing up at very low miles, also has any EcoBoost engine last up to a million miles like the 4.7L I-Force V8 in the Toyota Tundra?
@@CJColvin Toyota is a follower company - nothing ever changes for years and when it does - it's always already proven technology. Keep your 20 year old tech...
@@toddolson7273 Yeah but at least Toyota has well proven technology unlike the stupid EcoBoost engines, name me one EcoBoost vehicle that made it to a million miles with its original engine?
That was a fantastic showcase. I own a 21 ST and love it, but it does have its downsides in ride quality. However, with a few mods and a tune, can easily push super high numbers with the ecoboost.
@@DalHarpJr a stock ST isn’t fast , you’re comparing a 5.5 0-60 vs 4.5 you aren’t beating a SRT lol there’s videos all over RU-vid of STOCK STs vs SRTs losing
With the most conservative tune on the planet and that’s it you can make the Explorer ST have over a 100hp and trq to the wheels reliably for the next 100k miles.
Didn't the MDX Type S catch & pass the ST? I didn't see one run where the ST came from behind to pass. How didnit win? If anything there pretty even but the Type S will walk away from you.
Owned an ST for a few months last year. Fast AF but man that car was a pile of junk. Rattles, vibrations, seat noises, laggy tech, recalls and terrible service with Ford dealers. Happily moved on to Porsche after Ford couldn't fix any of the issues.
I am 😂😂😂😂😂😂so hard the Acura whipped that Ford’s ass . Japanese brands #1 I don’t care if the Ford won the last one it’s still garbage. American can never match Japanese brands. Even Korean brand is better than Ford. I test drove the Ford and it felt so cheap… the interior quality was embarrassing..The Acura and Genesis have high quality interiors and refined powertrains. American brands always disappoints me with the cheap quality . After all these years they still cannot get it right.
The MDX type S has sport + mode, and I gaurantee you didn't utilize it... if you had, the results would have been complete opposite. The ecoboost motors are notoriously unreliable, great power when they work.... key words are "when they work".
Alot of these Crossovers (including the ones in the video) are nothing but unreliable junk and won't even outlast my good ol' 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8.
Have you owned any EcoBoost motors, to talk about their reliability? Just curious. I've owned 4 EB powered Ford's (Still own two) and never had an issue..
The Acura and the Ford are close in power depending on when you hit it. But the Ford is just so Ugly! Stupid tail lights. my gosh! It just says Ford all over it. They gotta stop that nonsense. But the tail lights on the MDX are sweeeeett. BUt MAJOR POINT: The Honda engine will totally outlast and be much more reliable than that Ford ECOBOMB... Even comparing the Ford to the Genesis, you are talking a mere .3 seconds difference in the 1/4mi. Thats not much. Don't sweat the small stuff! You have to think about the total package and what you are getting too! Now if this was a race car, then maybe your focus is drag racing. But, its an SUV. Don't sweat the small stuff.
Stop assuming it’s gonna break down just because it’s a ford I have a bronco raptor with the same drivetrain and it’s been a year zero issues and hard off-road racing miles
@@Raptor_5.0the data is against you though. My wife's ST is garbage. I had a Mach 1 that ended up having a bad weld in the firewall, causing the suspension to flex and pop like crazy. Ford couldn't fix it, had to hire a lawyer to lemon law it. I test drove an aviator black label, same issues as the explorer. Screen doesn't work. Loud ass clunk from the crappy 10 speed. "Of 31 brands studied, the bottom four worst were Ford, Audi, Lincoln and Land Rover." I can respect that. My dad is on his second q5. Audi isn't much better.
@@lockheedload well not just me, I have family members and friends with ford trucks all of them over 200k miles and they have zero complaints You probably got a bad apple out of the bunch or not keeping up with maintenance
@@lockheedloadodd I have had mine for 3 years with practically no issues. Other than a highway rattle on the driver side that turned out to be an easy fix.
