I always call that “decontenting”. Harley is notorious for that. Prices keep going up, features keep going down.

this is the first year that I have noticed so many things removed from and older year to a newer year. Usually the newer ones have the same + some more features. This year, less features. Hopefully this is just a bad year due to shortages. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.

I am increasingly leaning toward cancelling my 2022 F-150 Platinum Hybrid order. I know it seems minor, but for a $70-80k vehicle there is no reason to cheap out for any of this stuff. Maybe on lower trims. Certainly not when you can get those extra nice features in other brands. Yeah, at this point, I'll just put in an order for another vehicle. I can wait. But I can't support these poor choices.
@mitchcox

A F-150 Platinum Powerboost hybrid is still an amazing truck. I have it and love it. I would still love it without these little touches. The extra ambient lighting is what I think I would miss the most as far as little extras. From what I am hearing, If you get the unleashed audio system the head rests still tilt. I would still take The 22 F-150 over the other brands.

Yeah, but the cost of everything has gone up too, so they pass those additional costs on to us. It's a crazy time. The sad thing, I don't see relief any time soon. It would require the government to destroy about 6 trillion that they gave out in stimulus, removing that amount from circulation. I don't see them doing that. You cant print that much money and not expect the value of the dollar to go down. It needs to be slowly removed from circulation to increase the value again. Bring the costs of goods down. It will be a long process and I don't see the current administration doing it. Based upon their actions so far.

My guess is Ford did this to reduce the need for further chips to help with production delays and part shortages.
@mitchcox

I am not sure about that. Removing a light bulb in the glove box, swapping license plate lights to halogens, no tilting headrests, etc. I don't see how any of those save chips. Ordered my F150 back in October, and Nov 1, Ford changed all orders into 2022 models.. None of the missing things are a crisis to me. But the true annoyance is simply that my dealer did not tell me about the changes. After he showed me a 2021 on the lot as an example, used the 2021 Ordering Guide, and then claimed that "everything in the 2022 is same as 2021." Of course, he did know much about the truck in general, so I am not surprised. But still love my truck. thanks for putting this video together.
@mitchcox
@mitchcox 2 года назад
Yeah, most things they removed are just nice extra touches that make the truck feel a bit more upscaled, like the cup holder ambient lights or the temp in the dials. etc. I think the biggest complaint I have heard is the way the bed lighting was standard on a Lariat but now its a package. or was included in the XLT 302a package but now its not. So people that placed their 302a order based upon the 21 guide, were not happy when their 22 truck showed up and didnt have bed lighting. I have found my dealers dont really know that much about the product either. its a shame. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to my channel, more videos coming soon.

@@mitchcox what amazes me is that my 2018 Xlt-302a has the bed lighting. Not to mention the new “multi adjustable seats” are not 10 way, they are 8 way. So even stepping up to a new lariat from my 18 Xlt is a downgrade in some ways. I think this is the only video on RU-vid that covers this topic in detail. All the lights gone made me not buy a 2022 along with increased price by 2k on the platinum trim, 82k with tax. 20k premium, no way. The dealers and ford would not disclose any info. whats missing thats not visible to us?
@mitchcox
@mitchcox 2 года назад
I think it’s safe to say that some of this is due to part and chip shortages. I DO wish Ford would be more transparent and communicate with dealers/buyers of what changed and why. Sometimes a simple, this is what we had to do and why, would go a long way with customers. The lack of communication makes it worse. Are you saying dealers are charging $20k over sticker? That should be illegal and Ford needs to put a stop to it. That is bad for their brand. Crazy times we are living in right now. We can only hope it gets better soon. Just don’t hold your breath. Just took delivery a few weeks ago, 2022 F150 Platinum Powerboost. I watched this video and went on-line immediately and purchased the license plate LED's for the 2021. My bad, I should have checked before buying. Went to install them and found out I already had the LED's. I also have the tilting head rests, with the B&O Unleashed system that has speakers in the head rest. No cup lighting, not a big deal for me and frankly don't care much about the temperature display in the knobs, I like the display on Sync 4 better. Not really missing much of what is mentioned in this video, but I love the truck. One thing I got right out of the box is the Sync 4 upgrade Version 22228 and the full blue cruise hands free and I do love that. Sync 4 Version 22228 gives you a bunch of upgrades the most notable is the ability to go full screen in Carplay. Makes a big difference using Waze. And with that version of Sync you can use Forscan to hack in the latest "Unreal Sync Theme" built in which can include the interactive climate bar on the screen. I know Ford has been late in pushing out the latest upgrades especially to 2021 vehicles, which sucks for sure.

Yes, I am still waiting on the latest update. I do have bluecruise and cameras while driving, but I do not have the full screen carplay update. I have a 2022 Platinum (Job #2) that came with the tilted head rests. As far as the halogen tag lights, I ended up swapping those out to matching LEDs. The only areas that did not have Ambient Lighting on my truck were in fact, the media bin and cup holder. Ordered parts required and harness and installed those lights back as well as a harness and light for glove compartment. I was disappointed to hear that Ford had decided to cut these features which were mostly present on my 2015 Platinum, so went ahead and ordered things before taking delivery.

Congrats on your new truck! I am sure you will love it. Does yours have ambient lighting in the door, in the 21’s there are two lights. One that lights the large bin and another that lights the front cup holder area of the door. I thought they removed them in 2022 as well or only put one in. Does it still have lights in the front and back floor area? That’s cool that you can order the parts and add those lights back. Just stinks that you have to go through the trouble and extra expense. Ford has had several price increases since 2021. Close to $5k more now than a 21 was, seems like ford could have kept these features. I just hope they don’t continue this trend in 2023. Charge more for less features. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy your truck. Still the best trucks out there. Take care.

I feel that the Limited should have all these things included. If any of the trims have them, it should be the limited. I know it’s due to the lack of chips for most of this stuff and they just tried to cut the number of chips required for each vehicle, but some things like LED license plate lights or keeping the glovebox light, can’t be chip related. Clearly it wasn't helping where around the diff housing it had already turned orange! I ended up not getting a truck, and I'm very thankful with current gas prices I decided to wait. Sometimes its hard to quantify changes like is done in this video, but there is just a sense that the Fords rolling out right now aren't of the best quality. And yet they have continued to sell. The 2021 Platinum'ss have leather across the dash and sections of real wood. I am not sure about the 2022's, I just assumed they were the same. On the door my 21 has wood trim instead of the plastic map of Detroit. On top of the dash is leather and facing the passengers are large sections of real wood trim. So, I am not sure what year you sat in, but for 2021, there is quite a bit of wood and much less plastic than the lower trims. I have ridden in a new Ram, and it looked nice but the comfort wasn't there. And talk about plastic, that Ram interior was 100% plastic.

Both had pretty nice leather seats, but I thought the Ram was more comfortable and seemed to have thicker/better quality leather. Maybe you sat in a Big Horn or lower end Laramie? When it comes to cars I'm biased, as for trucks I'm unbiased...was considering a 22 f150 stx but a 22 silverado is starting to sound more appealing especially with standard features that Chevy doesn't take away, bed lights, power tailgate, remote start, etc.

Yeah. I don’t like seeing that they removed some of the nice little “extras” that made this truck feel a bit more luxurious. Like the ambient lighting and temp displays on the dials. I am not generally one to trade up every year or so. I usually keep my vehicles for 5+ years. Unless they come out with something ground breaking. I plan on sticking with my 21 Powerboost. I have a great truck with a built in generator. This 4x4 gets better gas mileage than my previous 2015 XLT 4x2. So I am happy with it. Would I like more electric and spend less on gas? Sure, but for the heavy truck it is and the power it has, it’s impressive to get 20+ MPG it gets.

I don't pay attention to "the news." I just saw a video a couple of days ago about the semiconductor shortage for vehicles. As far as the license plate lights go, if you buy a 2022 (I did) swap them out for LED bulbs ASAP. The plastic sockets were not upgraded to take the extra current draw of incandescent/halogen bulbs. So within a year your sockets will start to look yellowed and burned. Thanks Ford! @mitchcox
@mitchcox 2 года назад
I think they are moving back to the stickers. My 2021 came with the trailer sensor that you have to mount and then connect to the truck. As long as the stickers work like they should, I would prefer them over the Trailer sensor. Kind of a pain to mount it, plug it in each time. Plus, if you have more than one trailer it would be a real pain to move. Stickers would be much easier. More than one trailer, just buy another sticker!
