Been trying to change my serpentine belt for 7 years!!! I was always scared to try this but once my guide starting rattling on cold starts I decided to finally give it a try. I bought the Pittsburg offset wrenches and kept slipping off. But having my pops holding tension on it against the oil pan with a pry at it finally broke loose. I was able to to a complete timing job and of course new belts. Thank you Brian!!!!

Honestly I think most shops won't even do rebuilds on most modern engines. Some of them are so complex that it's not worth the risk and the cost to get a used engine is usually the more sensible option. That's what I did with the rear end on my truck, a rebuild in parts would've cost me over $300 in parts and my local salvage yard had a limited slip upgrade for $250. I put it the used one and it's worked great and low I have a ls in my 2000 f150
@SmittySmithsonite
@SmittySmithsonite 5 лет назад
These days it's cheaper, faster, and easier all around to just buy a crate and stab it in there. That's the route most shops will take these days. Modern engines aren't as simple as in days past, so it can take quite a bit of time to do a complete rebuild ... and then you still have to take the heads and block to a machine shop to do the job right (matching piston to cylinder with proper clearance and hone, machining deck and head for 100% level, etc.).
@SmittySmithsonite
@SmittySmithsonite 5 лет назад
@@muskokamike127 - Exactly right, Mike! I argue with, presumably people from the younger generation, about this fact all the time. Back in the day, we used to drive EVERYWHERE - 300 miles in a day sometimes - and never worried about breaking down. The stuff would just run and run and run. Plus we beat the everliving crap out of the cars and trucks, too LOL. Rust sent many great cars to the crusher, unfortunately. I managed to hang onto a '86 Grand Marquis for the past 16 years. Wasn't really what I was looking for, but it was super reliable, and comfortable - the wife uses it as a 3-season commuter, so it doesn't rust away from road salt. 260k miles (odometer coming up on it's 3rd trip around) and still going strong, with NO smoke, and on the ORIGINAL fuel pump!

great video I have tried your exact idea before watching your video and the problem I am having is the wrench is flexing and popping off like its a spring. and its marring up the torque converter studs and nuts I don't want to break one or mess up the threads which I feel will happen if I keep trying this. my truck has roughly 80k miles and the pulley has never been touched. I am not going to reuse this pulley I am going to an aftermarket pulley setup for more boost so its not going to be used ever again. my question is can I use a Sawzall and a long blade and cut between the pulley and balance and just cut this pulley off?

I've got an 02 F150 HD and it feels like it's low on fluid while idling on gear (RPM's jump up and down a few hundred, falls in and outta gear (worse in reverse)) and has such hard shifts that it'll either feel like I'm being rear-ended (I've learned to let of the gas when I feel the shift coming) and causes the belt to chirp when it shifts. Fluid level is perfect and I paid a shop a few years ago to rebuild it...if they did is a different story but still. Any suggestions?

You don't need the special tool just take the starter out and jamb a big screwdriver or plastic, or rubber mallet against the ring gear. You have a huge mechanical advantage there. I wouldn't pry on the torque converter bolts. For crank bolts going in the right direction just put a spanner on it and bump the starter. Now that's a real trick kid.
