The customer was complaining of low oil pressure on start up and with my knowledge I knew exactly what the cause was and it was the oil strainer blocked up from all the fibers off the timing belt. as you can see it was a very involved job and I ran into a few problems including the AC pump bolts snapping and also all the bolts on the heat shield of the exhaust had all corroded and this was very time consuming to remove them. I did this job with out the torque multiplier and used laster tools 6952 timing tool, I torqued the crank bolt back up with a new friction washer which is not fitted from factory up to 300nm and then a further 90⁰. it's is a labour intensive job.

😂 The most dumb ass design on the planet. Why people buy Fords or any engine with a wet belt is beyond me??? 😅😅 It's a money making racket Nowt to do with tech progress. The only good thing about it is it punishes folk who choose to ignore the maintenance schedule by trashing the engine when the belt snaps or fowls the oil pump 😂 Not good for the planet though as this design promotes throw away cars ⚠️

Top job. You are an astonishingly smart, able & patient mechanic. My 2019/20 Ford has a 1.5 eco boost engine. I usually only buy 2 litre automatic cars, but made an exception in this case because of the vehicle's other features. It's still running alright at 37k miles, & I know that it is the earlier & 1 litre eco-boost engines that are particularly vulnerable; but had I known about the wet-belt arrangement, at the time I bought it, I wouldn't even have considered the purchase. Stupidly, I thought it had a Timing Chain. Now I've seen your remarkable video, I'm disillusioned with Ford, because of this silly engine design; built muvh more for the convenience of Ford than the owner. At least I know what to keep my eye on now & what my local garage mechanics might have to do.. Best to you.

We had a 2013 fiesta ecoboost in the same colour copper pulse. We got to 9 years old and 108'000 miles with just service items and an exhaust back box and front wishbones. Got a quote for the 2 belts (the timming belt and oil pump belt) £1300😮 Decided to part chop as it was a 1/3 rd of the cars worth. Must be hundreds out there on a 13 plate with the original belt (10 years or 150' 000 miles, which ever comes first) If ever the saying " knowledge is power" applied to buying an ecoboost engined ford😮😮

@@DonLight413 Not everyone will have this issue if they follow the correct servicing schedule using correct oil, however this depends if they own the vehicle long enough for the belt to deteriorate and how much they drive it. Your engine will not go bang they do not do this anymore, this used to happen because the old Focuses used to have plastic coolant lines which would vibrate and pop and then the engine would overheat and gain high pressure all around the crankcase block anywhere where coolant should be. Although they don't go bang anymore, they will damage themselves when the belt starts to deteriorate because the oil cannot get through the gauze in the sump quick enough as it is blocked and therefore scoring and pitting will occur to the block and once you've damaged the block so much you will basically need an engine rebuild. Just take good care of your car, follow the servicing and if it sounds like it is running rough it probably is, better to be safe than sorry with these

Great job, this looks like its far beyond most home diy guys, i have done a cambelt on an old 406 and was piss easy engine mount removed, lower engine a bit and i used some drill bits to lock the top cam pulleys and another for the crank pulley smug fit just easy enough no special tools needed, only bit that was a ball ache was the tenioner wich i didnt change it had a weird not so square slot but an old socket adaptor that i ground down with an angle grinder took few test fits but got it snug and i could put a decent amount of pressure on it and did up the main bolt and hey presto cambelt done, lasted over 6 years and around 70 k miles after i did it so i did something right but this wet belt thjng is so complicated i cannot see myself trying it not worth the hassle!

The total brake failure that my son experienced while coming off the slip road at Junction 10 on the M23 motorway was terrifying and he (and his apprentice) were fortunate not to have been involved in a major accident at this busy junction. The cause of the failure is well documented - the use of the wet belt inside the EcoBoost engine causes delamination over time. Debris from it eventually clogs the pick up pipe and vacuum pump which then fails causing the brake pedal to go hard. The brake pedal simply cannot be depressed to slow the vehicle no matter how hard you try. He is self-employed and relies on his Ford Transit Custom van everyday. It is currently at a Hendy Ford garage awaiting a goodwill gesture from Ford - as it is a few months out of warranty - yet the wet belt was not due to be changed for another 30,000 miles at the earliest. The current estimated cost of the repairs are £1,800! In addition, the failure of the wet belt may have caused damage to the turbo and the cost to replace it would be £1,000 according to Hendy. He has had the vehicle regularly serviced - using the specified oil. Ford have a duty to undertake the repairs - and cover any additional damages resulting from the delamination of the wet belt but they are digging their heels in - offering a fraction of the repair cost.

Like Fujitsu and the Post Office or Boeing and the 737 Max 8? There is a rumour among vehicle aficionados that if the cost of the recall is more than the money spent on compensation because of the fault, then the vehicle does not get recalled. The equation is pretty simple: A= number of incidents per manufacturing line. B= the average cost of compensation for faulty cars. C= the duration of that specific production line. D= the total cost of that production line recall. If A x B x C < D, then there is no recall. Simple.@@dreddwailing5505

The wet belt design is a disaster that quite a few manufacturers have used in recent engine designs- the purpose being to reduce friction losses and lower CO2 output. The gains are truly minimal. The replacement of these belts is so time consuming plus the damage caused by their early failure is pretty awful. We ended up buying a Mazda 2 instead of a Fiesta to avoid this dreadful engine design. Best decision ever as the Mazda's a much better car with its reliability record.

I work with wet belts in an industrial setting, they are subject to far higher heat and stresses than you would find in any engine. I have changed many on routine maintenance; some have been in service over 10 years and were in perfect condition when removed with no degradation or missing pieces. This can only be Ford using cheaper belts to keep the costs down. If you can get them use Continental Syncrochain belts, they are not cheap but are the best the business in wet belt technology.

On my ford galaxy 1,9 tdi, I let (forgot to replace) the belt run more than 25k miles over the recommended interval. when I replaced it, it looked like brand new.

Seems rather a big job to replace a timing belt. Sometimes new designs are not good..

very impressed. what was the mileage on this car? I hear the belt needs to be replaced at 100,000 miles. Ford have had lots snap and in America they have recalled all cars with this belt and changed them for free, but not yet in UK, I assume its with a better belt?

Shittest idea ever. The wetbelt on my 67 plate transit recently went. Over 5 grand to repair & lost the van for a month.

Ordered a Haynes manual and am going to attempt this on the drive with my 63 plate with 59k miles 😅 Do you know if you used any specialist sockets/tools that we may not have? How many different socket sizes were needed? I will be ordering the full timing belt and water pump replacement kit by dayco. Any advice greatly appreciated 🙌

Our main Ford garage quoted £1700 all in and an independent quoted us £900. Many garages not keen due to the complexity and tool requirements it seems. Think Ford were quoting something like 10 hours work or something crazy! Not sure what the average going job rate is or how long it takes once you know what you are doing.
