Thank-you for making this short and to the point. Some videos are like 10 minutes and you just summed it up in 1:15, good on you sir, and thank-you for the information.
Fiddly is an understatement, I got a mate with girly-man hands to help me out as I have sausage-like fingers and the manual dexterity of an angry rhinoceros. Thanks for the video JayJayJaroo!
I had a Ford dealer replace this resistor 3 times in 6 months and was told it may be a heater unit problem which could cost over £400 to replace. However they came up with a solution. Always leave the setting on 4 BEFORE you switch on the ignition, when the car starts turn down the blower level to what you want. It doesn't make a lot of sense however I'm willing to try it for a while to see. I'll like to bet that if the motor is switched off before you start the ignition this would also save the resistor from blowing.
So after taking my car in for a replacement windscreen & door lock repair my blowers don’t work at all. Any pot shots at where to start? (Garage that did it now out of business)
I hate my ford focus mk I. I allready had to change everything on that damn car. Now i have the same problem, and even after a few days, he did nt work anymore at 4 to. Thanks for the vid.
Resistor on my 2002 Focus blew and I replaced it a month ago. Couple of days ago it blew again so I went to my car guy and he says that the fan drews more power then it should and that is the reason why resistor blows. So I'm replacing the fan tomorrow and then I have to replace resistor one more time. First it worked on 2. 3. and 4. speed, but now it only works on 4. A/C doesn't work ofcourse.
So, my repair guy installed another fan and he installed another resistor, black one (blue one is for Fiesta), and now the ventilation and A/C work perfectly.
+JS SIDHU I paid for mine (used one) 40€ but the resistor blew again. And finally the guy that installed all the resistors in my car, thought of spraying the fan with some lube (something like wd40), to make the fan run more easily, and since then the last resistor is working just fine. Bottom line is that it was the fan all along.
Thanks for this video ! I changed the old resistor and now it works fine, but the new resistor gets super warm and smells. Do you know what the problem could be?
Pq puede ser q cuando prender el ventilador arranque directo el electro en AA si pero en la calefacción no debería o si? Es un Ford focus 1.6 nafta modelo 2006
My defrost knob is stuck on defrost and I cannot put the heat down to vent or onto my feet has anyone encountered this problem with the defrost knob being stuck in 1 position and it just won’t move without breaking?
Hi. I have ford focus 2003 1.4 zetec. mine only works on 4 switch. 1,2 and 3 doesn't work. But my fan motor is making some noise when I switch fan off. anybody help would really appreciate that thanks
+harry raehausen you can pull the old resistor pack out and put it on a multi-tester. Check the voltage going through at each terminal, you're going to find nothing getting through until you hit the last post. If the fan only works on the highest setting it's because this part is bad. Because at the highest setting the resistor's are being bypassed, sending a full 12v to the motor. But you can absolutely test it to be sure.
so I replaced this resistor as I had a similar problem. yesterday my heater/fan worked then it didn't. it would work on 1,3,4. then all of a sudden it didn't work at all. I then wiggled the dial around and found that when I pushed on the dial it would work until I quit pressing on it. today it wont do anything atll? I went to auto parts store and got the new resistor and installed it and still nothing? im wondering if it could just be the dial/switch itself or am I missing something? please help thanks!! great video by the way!!
i had the same exact problem if it's a focus it's probably your switch &your gonna have to take your front dash off not all but just where the radio is & change the switch these stupid ford's all have the same problem i know i change the resistor 5 times & the switch once
Mine also does not blow hot air. The mech says that the fan is starting to early and the water do not hear. He wants to replace all the temperature sensors. I don't think that's the problem. It was ok and a couple of months I did the distribution with the water pump and it was ok before. Any ideas?
Hi! I have the same problem. I recently replaced the resistor. The guy who replace it said that connector resistor melted from the heat. After replacing resistor, I felt a strange smell in the car, then even appeared some smoke and a day or two later the new resistor is stopped working. Now I personally replaced the resistor, but I noticed that resistor become very warm immediately after I turn on fan on 1, 2 and 3 speed. Is this normal and what could be the cause?
No I'm not. At first it seems that the fan is operating normally. However, at speed 1 fan is almost no sound. It crossed my mind to disassemble fan and see if rotates freely. I don' t think it's normal that resistance is so hot, and can even be dangerous.
JayJayJaroo ,thanks for reply.i have dropped out glove compartment, and taken off panel by floor ,but cannot find the resistor.I will ask in a local garage.Cheers.
Im looking for the switch and harness. Does any one know what the part number is. Its totally melted and i can only buy used because Ford said they don't have the part.
