Would love to see a video on how to change the Powershift Transmission Oil & Filter by you, with correct oil specs, part numbers etc. Thanks for all the other videos - really helpful.
That's not the worst. I have seen sump bungs that begin to leak the second you crack them loose and you have to continue to turn it out while the oil leaks. Has to be done though. I like to leave my oil drain for as long as possible maybe stick the kettle on while it drains and have a cuppa. I understand that this might not be possible in a garage as they have a certain amount of time to get the job done.
I would like to add that normally after draining the old oil it is advisable to pour some fresh oil into the engine, start the engine, run it for 5-10 minutes to wash out the old oil and dirt, then drain it and re-fill according to the instructions.
Hi Alan Just wondering could an oil be done on a mondeo using ramps at the front and is the oil pan to the rear of the engine and would it drain fully using ramps
At 1:39 what is the purpose of that clear tube just to the right of the oil filter, I found mine connected at the bottom of the engine in the middle of those two bolts to the right of the filter and the other end just lying on top of the undertray. Surely the other end must be connected to something as it appears to be a breather pipe.
Hi Alan you seem to know these cars inside and out. Love watching your videos. Very intuitive. I would like to pick your brains if you don't mind. Where do I find the colour code on my 2017 Mondeo MK5? Thanks Dave.
Hi Alan, great vid as always. Now purchased a 14 plate Mondeo was wondering if the oil filter is in the same place as the 11 plate? Underneath the filler. Thanks
hi, yes the oil filter is pretty much in the same place...just harder to get to...there is a special spanner to get to it or a short 27mm spanner...or at worst..mole grips
your right... the 2litre engine filters do need to be seriously tightened..we have had several come loose but no disasters yet... i tighten the filters with a strap
@@alan4x I've had two unscrew by themselves on my Focus with the same engine. 1st time I hand tightened it as normal, came unscrewed. 2nd time hand tightened plus about a 1/4 turn, came unscrewed, third time, I noticed on the filter it said something about 3/4 turn to tighten it so that's what I did. We shall see. :-)
Thank you so much for all your work Alan! "Trust" Ford wanted £800 for: oil and filter change on engine and gearbox + fuell filter change 😱 So I have ordered an air filter and a fuell filter for £35, going to get oil as well and do it myself. Apparently, the gearbox needs to be plugged to a computer for reset after oil change, is that true?
Hi, My Mk 5, 2.0 tdci is giving erratic oil change notifications. Having covered 108k miles now it has often been around 13500 miles when the oil change notification pops up. The odd time it is popping up after as little as 8k even though my driving style is exactly the same and i had definitely reset the oil service life at the previous change. Have you yes this happening on any of the Mondeo's you service? I have just reset the service indicator this time for now at 8k when it came on as there no point changing the oil till it reaches at least 13000. It can't be that contaminated at such a low mileage? Oil level hasn't increased so I don't think it's because of failed regens and oil dilution.
Hi Alan, what brand and viscosity oil do you use in these Mk 5 Mondeo's. I've been using the Ford recommended Csstrol Professional 0W 30 till now but as its very expensive I wondered if there was an alternative.
On my Euro 6 16 reg Kuga Ford recommend 5w30 for normal conditions and 0w30 for very cold (-20c). Triple QX do an oil that supposedly conforms to the Ford spec, and at less than 50 quid a change it's what I use.
Great videos as always! Do you have experience about ticking sound in engine, if engine is cold (after 4 hours not working, 15 celcius outside air temperature). I noticed it after first oil change when I bought used car (100000 miles) and I used Castrol Magnatec Start-stop 0w30. Mine is 2015 year 2,0 diesel mark5 mondeo. Workshops dont know the issue.
Alan, tell me, cause nobody here in Poland knows, it’s necessary to replace turbo oil filter (this one behind the banjo screw) everytime when oil replacing? Is it hard to get there with tools? Thanks! :)
no you would only ever change that filter if you remove the banjo bolt or turbo for some reason...as long as you have the regular oil changes with the correct ow/30 oil then leave that filter well alone
Alan, and just one thing. It is difficult to get there with tools from the bottom of the car? Or it is nessesary to remove some other parts to get there? I’ve 2.0 TDCi Focus mk3.5 150hp diesel, so it’s the same as in Mondeo mk5. Thanks for help.
Hi Alan do these MONDEO Mk5 eat oil ? Meaning if you put in 6.5 litres then does it come out with the same when you drain it ? As my message came up on dash to top up engine oil ! Mk4 never had this issue
hi, not all but quite a number of the taxis have been burning oil from new and needed around a litre of top up oil. its probably worth topping it up and see how many miles before top up oil message comes on again...if it does ... cars in the past would burn oil when new as engines were running in but i don't think they should be burning oil these days with strict emission limits
Alan Howatt Thanks for your reply me howatt! I know these use 0-30 oil which is too thin in my opinion ! Do you think it will make a difference to the engine if I use 5-30 ? Many thanks
Hi! In Finland the Ford service recommed to change the motoroil in every 15000km with longlife Castrol motoroil. Normal service interval is still 30000km. I don't know what is the reason for this recommending?
sit in drivers seat...close all doors...left foot on the brake pedal and right foot flat out on the throttle pedal....switch ignition on (do not start the engine) and wait about 30 seconds till the display changes to fuel economy screen then the oil service is reset
