Ford Radio Removal- NO SPECIAL TOOLS 

Didn't have a coat hanger so I popped the wire handles off a couple of old paint cans and straightened them. Worked great! Saved $$ and got the job done in about 10 mins total.

I cut up a coat hanger and tried over and over to get the radio out. No one mentions it but the steering wheel on a Windstar is right in the way so it is awkward to begin with. I worked on it for a couple of hours over two days. I could not get the radio to budge. Finally, I went to Walmart and bought the loop tools for about $6. Using these tools I got the radio out in about five minutes. Apparently the radio is tight enough that you have to wiggle it back and forth to get it to come out. And, it is nearly impossible to wiggle it while holding outward pressure on the coat hanger wire because the wire bends. If your radio isn't as tight as mine then the coat hanger wire could work. Otherwise, you'll need something stiffer. The loop tools are stiffer and also have curved ends which make it easier to grip the latches.

Dude, this has been messing me up for days, thank you. I used straightened pieces of deer fence. Guide it inwards (towards the deck) as you insert if having trouble.

Thank you I was thinking about doing that exact thing. I had done it years ago, but I wasn’t sure if you had to have the little nubs on the end of the tool, which was why I was making certain I didn’t need the actual tool. Thank you again

Hey. Great video. It really helped me out. I did, however make one modification. I cut 2 pieces instead of 4 and bent them to look like the tool. Made taking out the radio a little bit easier.

Did it this morning and it works great. I only suggest use the hex keys and a flat head if you dont need to take the pannel off....pop in the hex keys on one side and bend them away from the radio. Then use a flat head to remove one side at a time and boom it comes out ez

93 f350 radio had these holes but a coathangar just wouldn't do it. I had to get really violent with that hunk of junk radio to get it outta there! Ripped faceplate of radio off then with 2 giant pipe wrenches pulled until those steel tabs ripped.

well the coat hangers wouldnt work for me, guess i didnt have any heavy enough. but for anyone having the same problem, four 16 penny nails worked perfectly.

We just did this and it worked great. Ok but first used a coat hanger with too thin of wire which did not work. I was trying on one side and my husband the other and wasn't working. Told him to just do it as we were pulling against each other and it slipped right out :) So the hanger should be thicker. Almost think enough to fit right in the hole. They should only go in about an inch. we also just used a curved wire for each side instead of the four pieces. Hope this helps and thanks for the great video!!!

I have seen a few other videos like this but seeing you do it and I've seen you work on the same style truck as mine troubleshooting issues well actually try to use a coat hangers to remove it so buying the tools

Figured it was something like that but thanks for the video! A couple of my preset buttons don't work and the volume knob It's crazy when you try to adjust it up it goes down and down it goes up and you've spin it around and it doesn't work in blah blah blah. Finally frustrated enough to do something about it!! Thanks!

How far do you insert to engage the release? I used the tool. Seemed like it would go in a long, long way. Pushed out on the loops and disintegrated my radio. Now there's no leverage fulcrum to move out the releases. :(

I have a 2011 Ford transit van with the stock radio. I bought the keys to take it out but it seems the tabs that need to click into the keys are mangeld beyond belief. What can I do to get the radio out without destroying the dash?

How do you get a touch screen aftermarket stereo out? Obviously it doesn't have the holes for tools like the oem did, so then what?

the tools work a lot smoother and are under $5 but good explanation on the hangers, They do work it just takes a little patience

Will removing the radio reset all the settings? One of the select buttons stopped working and the balance on the radio is set all the way to the back and I have no way to bring it back to the front

I know this is regarding a stereo, but I have a question about a DVD player in my 02 Excursion. Recently bought it from the original owner, the only thing not working right is the DVD player in the backseat. Tried twice to put in a DVD for the kids and it had enough power to take in the DVD and a quick blip appeared on the screen. Now there is NO power to it and the DVD is stuck in it. I looked through the owners manual to see which fuse is linked to it, but the owners manual did not show. Also I noted that the stock stereo uses several buttons to able or disable the DVD player in back. Since the previous owner has an aftermarket Kenwood stereo installed in front, I don't know if that could be part of the problem or not? I called my local Ford dealer and they said they don't know, and never heard of it. Do you know any likely problems with this, or does it sound like the whole unit is fried and needs replacement? I can't find anything on the internet about specific problems/troubleshooting. Thanks! Julie

What year Ranger does this work on? My truck is on its second radio replacement as I bought it second hand. No "four hole" near my radio in my 1990 Ranger! The bezel extends across the driver's side dash past the radio almost to the glove box. Help!
