We finally give our Forester XT a proper lift, new wheels, and some off-road tires. The lift is from Subtle Solutions, at 1.5 inches it gives us plenty of clearance for the BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires and the Method Race MR502 Wheels.

Hi Rick, I swapped out the plastic engine guard for a thick Primitive skidplate. Rear diff protected by a Subaru rear diff protector. Thinking of adding some hard plastic in the rear to protect the rear axle boots, as they get *PELTED* by rocks/debris while rallycrossing. Can't wait for your next episode, love it! Cheers!

ne4ious stock offset is +45. His wheels are +15 so his tire sticks out. With his offset you have to raise your Subaru. With stock offset 215/65 or 70/16. Or 225/60/16. On my 04 215/70/15 with +15 offset raised

Excellent build. I have an 04 XT and will look to do the same. Thank you for clarifying the trailing arm spacer situation as well. I am doing 1.5 inch strut spacers and didn't know whether to go with a 2 inch or 1 inch trailing arm kit. Just a couple questions here: Is the downpipe swap you did prior primarily responsible for the deep exhaust sound? Also, would you recommend the BF Goodrich tires for someone that wants A/T tire but primarily drives on highway (I want low noise and comfortability as much as possible)?
@rallysportdirect
@rallysportdirect 5 лет назад
Awesome! I would probably go with the 2inch spacers, it should help keep the alignment perfect even when the suspension droops a bit. And the Downpipe certainly added to the sound for sure. The Tomei exhaust on the factory downpipe still sound amazing, but just not quite as good as this LOL. And for the tires, BFGoodrich can't be beat. For a daily I might go with the K02's as opposed to the KM's as they are more civil on the highway yet still incredibly capable off-road. Let us know if you have any other questions!! Thanks, Rick
@thespecter2
@thespecter2 5 лет назад
@@rallysportdirect Thank you for the reply. I'm looking to do the same size tires. I'm trying to calculate in my head why the TA offset would be greater than the lift though... Isn't the point of the TA spacer to center the wheels after elongating the strut space? How would a 2 inch TA spacer be better than a 1.5 inch TA spacer given that we are working with a 1.5 inch lift?
@subtle-solutions
@subtle-solutions 5 лет назад
@@thespecter2 you should always match up your lift kit (strut) spacer size with the same size Trailing Arm (TA) spacer, unless you are running a larger than stock diameter tire or lift springs with your setup. In that case, like this Torquester project, you would want to run the 2" Trailing Arm spacer.

Yes, we manufacture the front 1.5" and rear 1.5" strut spacers for this lift kit. I'm not sure why RallysportDirect does not have them listed on their website. They are one of our dealers. Yes, you would want to match the trailing arm spacers to the total lift that you are installing. Some people go with the 2" TA spacers if they are running a much larger than stock offroad tire for extra clearance, or if they have springs paired up with the lift kit.

Great videos Rick. What would you recommend for the Forester as an upgrade over OEM for the shock absorber/dampers. I need something to deal with hours/days of corrugated outback roads in central Australia. Many vehicles experience shock failure, I presume, from getting hot and blowing seals. Recommendation appreciated. Evan, Perth Western Australia.

KYB struts paired with King Springs (which, being in Australia, you can get cheaper than the rest of us)!

Have you change anything in order to stay on the same gimbal level or 1.5 inches it's just the limit !? nice and helpful vidéo by the way..

1.5 is about as high as you want to go before you start running into issues. You can go higher of course, but it requires more mods to bring alignment back into spec, as well as potential axle issue among other things. Thanks, rick

I have used used 2" spacers now, do I have to removed struts before mounting the Multi Link spacers or can they be done now without removing struts. 2009 Forester
@rallysportdirect
@rallysportdirect 4 года назад
For the arm spacers you won't have to remove the strut, but I always find it's easiest to do with the struts off the car as you just have less weight on the assembly and less in your way, but honestly you can go about it either way. Thanks, Rick

Rick I have this same setup on my 04 XT but this tire size doesn’t fit my front when I turn. Do you think you can shed a little light?
@rallysportdirect

Are you rubbing a bit under full lock? Most people end up massaging down the spine on the rear of the fender well to allow for proper clearance. If you do that, you should not rub any more :) Thanks, Rick

So how much of a lift did this add to the forester? Was it a 2” lift?

I am a bit confused. The video you show one 1.5 inch spacer for each side. Your links call for one 1" and one 1/2" spacers? Do you just stack them together? Different than your video it seems?

The correct 1.5" strut spacers for this build are a solid one-piece design. Part Numbers: #SUS-150F-ABK (fronts) and #SUS-150R-ABK (rears).

do you think those tires would fit a forester without the lift kit
@rallysportdirect
@rallysportdirect 5 лет назад
No, you would get some pretty bad rubbing. I'm sure with a bit of work you could, but even a small lift would be ideal. Thanks, Rick

You can change to any size wheel/tire combo that is the same circumference as your original without any trouble. There are calculators that will tell you which size side wall to get for a wheel size based on your original size. Shouldn't have any rubbing when doing this.

Bull...front wheels won't fit without cutting and banging, unless there are STI LCA installed, which they conveniently omit. They have rears in though.

this is pretty much what I want to do with my 2018 Forester (except i want to 2 inch front 2.5 inch rear) but I am a total nub with car stuff. I dont understand if this will fit or not. Is there some sort of website that can calculate these things for me?

The stock location spring perches will rub on the 235s, you will need to go with something like a Coilover setup to make those tires work. Thanks, Biggie
