Hey man I don't know if you're really gonna see this 3 years later but I have a 2008 forester non turbo. I saw you're video get recommended a while back and I've basically been doing most of the mods that you've been doing for these past couple months. Red rally armor flaps, hood struts (thanks for that suggestion), sway bar removal, and I'm in the middle of installing basically the same exact 2inch lift. I loved the rhino rack and awning setup you had but unfortunately I can't find them anywhere. It's kind of funny because my forester is the same color as yours so it's almost identical. Just wanted to say thank you for, not only inspiring me to become an off-road forester, but also for helping me with installing the mods.

Hello 👋 Yeah I still check the comments daily and try to make an effort to respond to everyone. I’m very pleased my videos have been helpful to you! With the awning, I used a rhino rack universal awning bracket that I had to modify to fit the kings awning I have. Works a treat!

The heavy duty King Springs on the rear are great, made a huge diff to my '03 forester! Now I can load the back cargo plus have my rooftop tent on with only minimal sag, before the sag on the standard rear springs was bringing the whole body down over the top of the wheel.

Awesome video, super informative. I've been looking at lifting my 2008 forester XT with the 2" front and 3" rear ADF spacer kit and this is exactly the type of video I needed to see to motivate me to do it. I'd really like to do a setup like yours with the heavy duty king springs in the back in addition to the 3" spacers. I was going to stick with the stock struts but maybe I should look into getting some KYB's since I plan to do some off roading with it. What KYB struts did you go with? Do you think they would fit my 2008? Your Forester looks great, man. It's really cool to see it transform.
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 6 лет назад
Cory Haggard the SH foresters went to a different suspension setup to my SG forester so the same struts will not work. Your stock struts will work fine, I just upgraded because I only had coilovers beforehand
@ICTarneit
@ICTarneit 4 года назад
Hey awesome vid. Thanks. Why do you need the offset? Does it effect handling?
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 4 года назад
The camber and caster offset in the spacers is important as without them you alignment will be thrown right out and you won’t be able to fix it. That means your wheels will have excessive positive camber resulting in poor handling and uneven tire wear

how are the cv's holding up? I wen't with 2" all around because everywhere I read it said more than 2" without lowering the rest of the drivetrain makes for unhappy cv's.
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 5 лет назад
Das Goofinhiemer Generally they are going well. I learnt the hard way that to only use OEM boots and axles, as anything aftermarket just doesn’t last. 2” is make for the newer Subaru’s but the old subies like SG/SF forester can take 2.5 front 3” rear without subframe spacers

Hey man! Nice job! As I have done this with my Forester also, I would recommend one thing, that are stabilizer links. So I advice to replace them with longer ones, so that they work well. In fact you can remove the rear stabilized at all :-) But if you like to have it you can put these ones, OEM # 56261-EQ000 - Nissan's front stab links - these will fit your rear side, and OEM # 48830-20010 - Old Toyota Caldina's rear stab links, these are for your front. I did this to decrease the tension that occurs on the control arms' brackets.

hey bro! been loving your channel lately, i got an 05 xs recently. i want to lift it. it has bc reds coilovers in it right now & i am wondering why people don’t install the lift kit on coilovers? i want to get stuck right into it but i will wait & save some more cash if it is that critical not to do this with coilovers. any advice will be greatly appreciated!
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 2 года назад
There are a few reasons not to use street coilovers for off-roading. The main one is that they provide no articulation, so you will constantly lift wheels and lose traction. This is the reason many also remove swaybars, so the wheels can drop into holes and get the absolute best traction possible. Otherwise, coilovers are shorter than stock struts so you will lose clearance and they will be super stiff and uncomfortable on the rough stuff. True offroad coilovers normally provide 2-4” of extra travel to an OEM strut and have different spring rates. If you want to do it on the cheap, get a set of OEM suspension from a wrecker and install too hat spacers on that

Hey man I’ve watched your videos and they are pretty badass. I got a lift kit for my 05 forester xs but I’m not sure if I messed up or not. I have 2inch lift spacers with trailing arms and I got the 1” raised king springs. Do you know if that will work out alright? Should i have just got the oem Kings? I also have the KYB struts too.
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 5 лет назад
If you got the raised springs front and rear, then you will have a 3' lift all round. That will be two much for the front to handle without body spacers and you should have a matching 3' rear trailing arm spacer to even out the rear alignment. I also found raised springs to be very harsh and much prefer the heavy duty standard height springs

@PTMG
@PTMG 6 лет назад
I was looking into doing king raised springs in the rear and normal king springs up front with no spacers. Is there any particular reason you dislike king raised springs? I would like to know more before I buy springs. I drive a 05 forester, but I am not looking for an aggressive lift, or really one at all, so I would like to avoid spacers all together. I would just like a little extra beef in the rear to counter some of the sag, since I tend to load up the back quite a lot.
@kiwizookoffroad2040
@kiwizookoffroad2040 6 лет назад
The problem is that they reduce your downtravel and cause the struts to top out, which can damage them and means you lose traction earlier offroad. They are very stiff springs. I would recommend standard height Kings in the rear and standard front springs. If you carry very heavy loads regularly then raised kings in the back (for extra sag prevention) and standard height kings front.
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 6 лет назад
I have owned a forester with a raised spring lift and one with a spacer lift. Any raised spring is harsh on the strut, as it is always maxed out by the extra spring height. This is bad for the strut long term and makes for a harsh and noisey ride over bumps. Will have a video of the comparisons coming up at some stage. My suggestion is to get heavy duty standard height springs for the rear. These are stiffer so they can handle the weight better but don't compromise ride quality

Hey, I'm glad your enjoying my videos. As far as I know there aren't many options for front springs in the SG foresters other than raised springs which I would avoid. I'm running stock springs in the front of mine with no issues. The rear have been upgraded to standard height, heavy duty to deal with the extra weight of camping gear in the back.

I tried to install a 2 inch lift by myself. I put the back spacers and trailing arms spacers no problem. But when I tried doing the same on the front I simply couldn't fit the strut back in. So I pushed the axle down to get the strut to fit inside and accidentally my CV joint fell apart. It just came apart with the boot. I pushed it back in and put the stock clamp back. It lost some grease but the car drives nornaly... Am I going to need new CV axle after that or am I going to be fine ?

You can upgrade the rear springs to handle more weight if your going to load up with camping gear. Avoid raised springs and just look for heavy duty springs. Pedders, Kings and RalliTek make good springs for the Subaru’s

i know this is an old video, but i am genuinely curious as to why you didn't do it with the Bc coilovers??? can't you raise them to factory height and then put the spacer on them? then you would have good spring rates/capacity.
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 4 года назад
I believe the BC coil overs raised to max height is still lower than standard, plus they are that stiff the car would have no flexibility offroad and it would be very uncomfortable taking it offroad

Hey man, I got a 2005 I wanna get it lifted but only 2” in the rear. Would I still need rear trailing arm spacers as well? What’s the highest can you go without using the arm spacers? And have you had any problems caused by the lift kit at all since you’ve done it? Thanks
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 6 лет назад
Jean Sanon as a rule, your trailing arm spacers should match the lift height in the rear, otherwise it upsets the suspension alignment in the rear. I have had no issues since lifting the forester

How long did it take to get your order and where are they coming from?
@ignitionoffroad5028

If your talking about the lift kit, the kit is made by an Australian company called SubieLiftOz. They are located in Melbourne Australia and my kit being a special order I think it took 3-4 weeks for me to get it.

Did you need to replace the struts and springs with this build? I'm doing a 2" front, 2.5" rear on a 2004 Forester. I'm not sure if I should stick with stock struts and springs for now or if I need to also get the struts and springs.
@ignitionoffroad5028
@ignitionoffroad5028 4 года назад
I went from coilovers so I had no stock suspension to use. The KYB are OEM replacements anyway so they are no upgrade. If they leak replace them otherwise save your money. The king springs heavy duty in the rear are good to handle extra weight in the back of the car though

Ignition Offroad Hey. I went with 2” front and 2.5” rear. Tried doing the install today but after putting in the lift in the rear for the life of me I couldn’t drop the wheels far enough to put the lug nuts in at the bottom of the strut. Was there some sort of trick or something that I’m missing? Or was I doing something wrong? It just seemed like a breeze when you did it.

BigOmega yeah, I struggled with the front more than the rear. Is the swaybar disconnected? Unbolting the lateral links might help as well
@Julien-R
@Julien-R 4 года назад
Ignition Offroad yea I didn’t disconnect the sway bar. Literal rookie mistake. Looked into it more after this post and found some other resources that mention disconnecting the sway bar. Hopefully next time will go more smoothly. Thanks for the advice again. Good luck on your new project

I just bought an SG forester ! Can you still use the factory struts or do you need to get the new ones? Thanks.
@ignitionoffroad5028

Prepper Z factory struts are fine. The KYB are factory replacements anyway, and I had coil overs beforehand so needed struts to replace them

Bit late, but he had aftermarket struts to begin with. You would use the OE struts in your case.

I was just wondering for your front strut top mounts do they wobble a bit on the mount? Because mine wobble a bit and I wasnt sure if its because the top center bolt is not tight enough on the strut?

I don’t have any wobble in mine. I would recommend replacing them if that’s the case.

Danny Kunca I have noticed that the hole in the top hat is slightly larger than that off the strut diameter. This was through various Subaru strut setups. I thought it was strange but I’ve never noticed any wobble once it’s all assembled. Is that what you are referring to?
