An icon among comedians! If you watch Dean Martin during Foster Brooks act he actually starts wiping away the tears in his eyes from laughing so much! 😂
The amount of applause and laughter he gets even before he says a word is stunning. The audience knows that if the speaker is Foster Brooks, the comedy will be golden. And he always delivered. A true talent.
@@TELEVISIONARCHIVES The irony is that he couldn’t do his act if he really was drunk. He just wouldn’t have been able to get the comedic timing down. He was also very creative in writing the material. I remember pundits talking about one half a person out of every 100 voters. 1968 was a very close election. But Foster brings that “analysis” to a new level with the crack about which half of a person voted for Nixon.
Agreed about being a national treasure. But they're were many great comedians that could make others cry while laughing. First that comes to mind is Tim Conway. I mean, he made Harvey, not only cry while laughing, but also actually pee himself. Another great and funny comedian and national treasure
It seems at the very end of the roast Foster does something that can't be seen (off camera) that really makes everyone seriously lose it. Dean especially. Am I right?
To me this was the best of Mr Brooks I miss those days where you could have real fun with someone and not hurt their feelings black r white or in-between. We are all humans
An amazing comedian. Humphrey and Don Rickles were his two best “roasts”. I watch this at least once a month and when I feel down. No one has made me laugh harder than Foster Brooks.
The setup as his political adviser was great! Fun fact. After Foster was adopted into the pack, he always had to go last because no one wanted to go after him. He was that good.
Two words to describe him brilliant and genius. Love this one. Poor Dean must have been aching with pain he laughed so much. Great to see his reactions
Ever since I accidentally saw one of Fosters Brooks roasts I’ve been hooked. No matter how many times I watch any of his clips I’m always in stitches. He’s sooooooo hilariously funny. The world is a sadder place without him but his memories live forever. R.I.P Foster.
When people talk about Don Rickles or Jonathan Winters as the funniest comedians, Fo... _FOSSter_ .. Brooks seems to appear on the borders of my consciousness.
RU-vid is full of bullshit romanticized comments like this about the past. The Internet: where everything in the past was always so much better and ideal, lol. Quit lying and just take your Geritol.
Oh Lordy, I didn't think Dean was going to make it through this one. So, so great! This show was a real gem. I'm glad I am able to relive the best time of TV and comedy. Truly, a class act.
Welcome to the Vietnam era, I was 16 when this was filmed in Nov. 73. I remember my dad watching these and he would literally be crying he was laughing so hard. These were the "old " movie stars of that day, i would give anything to go back to those times, almost 50 years later now and everyone's gone. That's the circle of life, today I'm going to my grandsons birthday party. Enjoy your life, stop for a minute and soak in your happy times, like when the Roman's would March in after a conquest to a huge celebration, it was tradition to have a slave whispering to them that all glory is fleeting ...
@@seansturgill4869 huh I did some reading that he did do a lot of drinking back in his day. Some things aren't always out in the open like that i guess.
@@Rikkity True. What I'd read was that he quit drinking in the 1960's on a bet from a friend that he couldn't quit drinking and smoking. Apparently, Foster was so hard up for cash at the time that he took the bet and won and didn't drink again. That's just what I was able to find. Do you have any other info? I'm not challenging you. I just like to have my facts straight as well. In various clips from The Dean Martin Show, he played a drunk in a bar. At the end of the skit, he would stagger to the bar door, turn, look immediately sober and different, bow and walk out completely straight. Nonetheless, he was pretty incredible
No one could crack Dean Martin up like Foster Brooks. Brooks was a Brillant comedian & Dean Martin was so giving that he would allow other comedians to have their day on his show. Love those Roasts.
This was one of the best Foster Brooks roasts ever in my opinion, Dean was laughing through this whole skit. What I never realized was at the very end when Dean completely lost it, to the point he doubled over and was wiping the tears away from laughing so hard. After everything Foster farted... Too bad that was unknown to everyone, the audience would've lost it as well. These roast clips can bring me out from depression to laughing in just a few minutes. Foster was one of a kind, even drunks couldn't do it any better and more amazing than anything was he never drank a drop. If you haven't watched Foster destroy Dean himself, hubie the boobie(this one), johnny carson, jackie gleason, don rickles, lucille ball, rowan and martin, and my personal favorite jack benny. There are others but off the top of my head these are the best ones to me. So we all thank the comedy gods for these roasts.
@@dominicksforza3484 It was a farting machine, it seems Foster had for a long time wanted to do it, to see if it would be cut out, it was. Good old US of A.......
Foster Brooks was def on a different level to get the audience howling with out saying a word. Steve if you haven't seen it. Look up when Dean Martin showed up legit drunk on Johnny Carson I stumbled across it a few months ago.
I've watched these roasts with Foster Brooks so many times and never get tired of them. He was just brilliant. Those were the days when you needed real talent to succeed.
That would have been right in the middle of the Watergate scandal. That's why the notion of an incompetent Humphrey campaign manager is so funny for everyone there. "I can't figure out how the heck we lost."
My younger brother and I tried to mimic Foster Brooks, we weren't any good at it but we'd roar with laughter just knowing how the master did it. He IS Absolutely hilarious without foul language. He was a giant, we didn't know how special he was. I love seeing the other celebs on the dais REALLY laughing until they cry.
Something I noticed , just upon hearing his introduction and seeing him walk out , I felt my mood began to lighten and I was smiling . What a great comedian Foster was .
i love Dean Martin and Foster brooks , true comedy, very funny! What we have today is a pity, mean, dirty mouths, no talent jerks. Should never be on TV. Take out all the old tapes of Bob Hope, Jack Benny. Lucy, Carol Bernadette, so many good ones . Thanks for putting these on, keep them coming, I love them!
Not enough laughter in the world today I love this video, no need for bad language just great comedians with so much charisma. The Dean Martin roasts are the best.
I loved Hubert Humphrey and this was Foster Brook’s best roast performance. I watched the original telecast in 1973 and was practically on the floor laughing when he made the Henry Cabot Lodge joke.
Like there's never going to be another Rodney Dangerfield, theres never going to be another Foster Brooks. How he was able to keep a straight face during this insanity is the mystery. Foster was a genius
...and the most magical thing with these brilliant displays of comedy on the highest level is that you can watch them as many times you like and still you´ll laugh out loud every time !!!
Foster always got the biggest pre-performance laughs and applause when he got to the podium. Remember seeing him on TV back in the 1960s; warped me for life! Still ROTFLMAO after all these years.
This was real comedy and these guys were legends.Foster Brookes made Dean laugh so hard he was weak and he did it with class and no vulgarity. Those days are gone.
@@dominicksforza3484 As I've said earlier it was a farting machine, Foster wanted to see if he could get away with it, he didn't. I think the audience heard it too it must have been loud. Shame it was cut....
My God. This man is absolutely hilarious!! I wish we had comedians like this in Europe today. Well done USA on producing such comic genius. The American comedians in the 1970s were amazing!!
Outstanding performance by Brooks. Notice how people start laughing just to know that his time has come. Absolut perfect timing. I dare to say he's the best drunk impersonator ever.
Thank you for showing these roast videos, watched them as a kid, never can be replaced. God bless Dean Martin and all these celebrities who make you never stop laughing.
I remember watching these roasts when I was a kid. I think I was 11 or 12. They are still as funny today as they were then. The one thing I love about this is that everyone was laughing and having a good time. Foster Brooks loved to make Dean Martin laugh and it was so comical just watching Dean laugh. Brings back so many good memories. Comedy won't ever be like this anymore. Thanks for sharing this.
What is so amazing is how he keeps a straight face - its almost automatic to laugh at your own joke when the response is laughter this makes him more than a genius..
I have tried searching for a long time to find out what Foster's final edited comment was that cracked them up (especially Dean). Still haven't found out. For me, it never gets old. This and the Rickles Roast are my favourites of many. So glad for this posting! Need a lift? Call on Foster!
One of my favorite videos. The very first time I watched this I was working overnight security and I cried cuz I laughed so hard. Had to wipe my eyes from the tears of laughter RIP Foster, you were a blessing
This is comedy at its best, these were the greats of the laughter factory, absolutely brilliant minds to produce such clever comedy basically off the cuff. All credit to their genius, forever remembered fondly.
Yes, though in this instance, he was intro'd as HH's 1968 (losing) campaign manager, and everyone knew Brooks' drunk act, so the whole premise was awesome. And sure enough, he starts off with (slurringly) wondering how they lost.
The way his fellow friend Dean Martin reacts at the brilliant show of a “drunk” Foster Brooks it’s a laugh inside a laugh. Just brilliant and exhilarating
Stuff of legends im 33 years old watch these roasts once a week this is by far my favorite. Best line was about him "paying of the broads" truly brilliant always felt I was born way too many generations late
I know Foster Brooks is one of the most legendary comedians of all time, but I would honestly say that this is one of his best performances. He had the entire crowd in stitches throughout the whole thing and to the point where some of them couldn't stop laughing at the end and Dean couldn't stand up straight.
yeah, but there’s been tricky editing to this clip. foster squeezed a fart bag or something, pretending to blow a big noisy fart, that’s why everyone is hysterical at the end, the fart part was edited out.....
When watching the Dean Martin Roast with my parents, we always knew Foster Brooks was going to speak, but not when. There was a feeling of anticipation as each comedian got up, and somewhere near the end, Dean would start telling a brief story about the next speaker, and you knew it was Foster's turn. (Come to think of it, maybe he was always last, as I can't imagine anyone following him!). We loved him! 😀❤️
