Jimmy Stewart was a legit war hero who was immensely respected by his peers in the entertainment industry. You'd think he was too goody two shoes for a lot of these comedians, but if you watch Stewart with Carson, for example, Carson showed him a lot of respect and Jimmy would keep up with jokes and was very entertaining. A great entertainer and a great man.
Foster Brooks would have me in stitches in the 1970's growing up. He was the only comedian who could have me laughing so hard I would be in tears as well. I miss him and this golden era of television 📺.. Foster Brooks was a genius of his time. He performances always left you wanting more. He was amazing ..
Mark, he definitely wasn't underrated! That's why he was on this show constantly! It was one of the biggest shows on TV at the time and they had the biggest stars on this show weekly! The only other person I could think of that may have been on more than him other than Dean, may have been Don Rickles! The biggest comic of that era and possibly of all time! Foster Brooks was one of the funniest comics with one of the best routines ever in the history of Comedy! And to me, definitely top 10, maybe top five funniest comedians I have ever seen!! But again, that's just my opinion. Keep on laughing my friend and always enjoy life!
The greatest "Lush" ever on TV! Foster Brooks was the greatest and watching those roasts were a big part of my childhood. I can still remember my parents howling with laughter!
ps can you imagine being a young Air Sevice man in USAAF and a tall Actor In a Officer's Uniform walks up and its Jimmy Stewart....my God bless your soul Sir and all those young men...
I remember my Dad imitate Foster Brooks when I was really young , he did He would be just like him ! Very funny! 😂🤣 They don't make comedians like him anymore! I miss those days!
Jimmy Stewart was a first class aviator, he flew his full compliment of 20 missions, and was a decorated hero flying difficult bombing missions over Nazi germany.
@@Rigatony32 yes you are correct on that and for anyone else that wants to know: On March 22, 1941, Jimmy Stewart was drafted into the U.S. Armed Forces. ... Stewart ended the war with 20 combat missions. He remained in the USAF Reserve and was promoted to brigadier general on July 23, 1959. He retired on May 31, 1968.
AMEN James, Jimmy is a man who served with honor, lead by example, his courage and commitment to the security of the USA, is something the entitled, spoiled know it's all something 98% of our population actually believe that we are the problem in the world, less than 2% of the population volunteer to serve in the military, that's pathetic that a big part of that 98% disrespect military men and women. These liberal trools think they can have anything they want whatever they want it, if they don't get what they want they start riots destroying peoples businesses and person property. I'm only saying this to contrast what the men and women did to secure the country for all who follow. Jimmy was a true American hero, those two words are so over used they've lost their meaning but Jimmy is the real deal, served with honor and distinction, he loved this country. Looking at what these liberal lugnuts have already done to purposefully hurt this country because they still don't accept the fact hillary lost and President Trump won., and will win again. Can't wait to see the meltdowns then. Everyone who puts on a military uniform is why these entitled, mellinial brats and punks are free to be the ignoramouses they are. Men like Jimmy are practically extinct today. Anyway... I digress. Thanks Jimmy, for your patriotism and service to this country and for us all (RIP).
Today they will have a hell of a time catching up to these guys! Not sure if it can be done anymore it has been so long since I’ve seen anyone even close!
Dean was ready to lose it when Foster came up to the podium. Even though it's just an act, people were already cracking up before he even said anything. Foster Brooks was a master at his craft.
We will never see this kind of comedic talent ever again. All of these comedians and actors were very good at their craft. They knew when to throw an insult that was funny, not degrading or vulgar. Everyone was subject to a barrage of insults and they grinned and laughed because this was a time way before POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. Todays celebrity roasts can not equal or surpass this real comedy. Today there will be lawsuits for doing standup comedy like this. The KARENS of today have no spine or sense of humor. Don Rickles will always be know as the “Merchant of Venom” as Dean Martin would say, or the master insults. Don did his routine up until he died and it astonishes me that no one tried to cancel him. And Foster Brooks playing the drunk. He did this so convincingly that you had to laugh. Most everyone has a sense of humor and enjoys a good laugh. I don’t find the quality of humor today such as these Dean Martin Roasts had and still has. These were very funny and talented comedians and actors and these roasts will be enjoyed by new fans that will discover them. To keep good wholesome talent is to remember how it was done years ago. To watch these funny skits is paying tribute to REAL comedians. They are gone now but will always be loved for their talents that made us laugh.
James Stewart flew bombing missions over Vietnam, a fact a lot of people don't know. During WWII when he was sent home, (after 25 bombing missions in B-17's) the C/O of the airbase in England was asked why he sent him stateside, and he said that " I don't want to go down in history as the guy that got Jimmy Stewart killed". True story.
I'm so thankful to have grown up during that time when all those people were entertainers. I sorely miss the days, but everyone does eventually and says so. These too are those good old days, as the old song Carly Simon sang reminds us. Cherish them, don't waste or take them for granted. Love those around you. One day, memories will be all we have.
There are really really very few 'one of a kind' entertainers in this world. Thanks for sharing the much missed and definite one of a kind, Mr.Foster Brooks.
Wow! Love these! Look at all the classic and distinguished guests at the dais. OMG - I am 58 but I remember watching these with my mom and dad and laughing because they were laughing. These are the best!!! Thank you.
I believe he made a very good career of it and stayed very sober all the time! He gave us many happy hours and still goes on that way. He gave us happy hours!
I came across these by accident and laughed till I cried. So many nights as a teen watching this humour and still great 50 years later. Clean fun but so politically incorrect it could never air today.
Loved the line about if he shot down some messeschmidts, Jimmy would give him a mess of Schlitz! (Do they still make Schlitz beer?) Funny! RIP Foster Brooks.
Jimmy Stewart, an underrated actor and a real life war hero! And a guy who could take a joke too 😁😁😁 Edit: notice how Jimmy gave Foster Brooks an honorary salute at the end? True class 😎😎😎
This is the creme de la creme of American Great of Era.In All its Panoply .We wont see this again these retrospective montages of comedic geniuses in our presence....But I still laugh until it hurts...take a breath and watch some More...You cant get enough of this I am going to keep watching until my eyes go square...square glasses to remedy it 🤓🤗
Jimmy was a man to be respected and admired. His service to our country was something he was proud of, and as humble he was he was a fierce defender of his men and country. I don't think there's even 4 or 5 today that could have his attitude because in this spoiled and confused bunch of clueless idiots would attack him for "killing peaceful people". I'll stop here before I say something I shouldn't. Jimmy was a war hero and he deserves our highest respect and thanks from us all... RIP Jimmy, and thank you for your service to our country.
I get the same blowback from people for me being a Vietnam Vet in the U.S.A.F. in an Air Rescue unit after enlisting at 17, having gotten a G.E.D. through Job Corps at 16. Never killed anyone, saved guys lives and was proud to do it.
Actually, he did drink. He stopped drinking after some guy placed $10 bet to him if he could go a day without alcohol. After that bet he didn't drink again. He took the bet because he needed the money.
My mom LOVED watching Dean Martin’s Celebrity Roasts and LOVED every time they had Foster Brooks! Many memories of hearing my mom laughing so hard at him! Great Memories that I relived as a teenager at home was the airing of moments like this! ❤ They don’t make ‘em like this anymore! Thanks for sharing!
