Foster Brooks was so good at playing a drunk I swear he could convince a police officer of intoxication at a DUI checkpoint. I love Foster Brooks. Watching him never gets old.
Foster Brooks' brother, Tom, had a kiddy show on our local TV station playing a character called Cactus Pete. When my older brother told me this "drunk" was Cactus's brother, I thought he had to be lying
As someone who turns 70 a week before this Christmas I remember these shows. Dean Martin was my all time favorite performer and a great actor. Foster Brooks was so funny back in the days before everyone got so thin skinned it makes the outer skin of an onion look like 10'of solid lead by comparison. Can't wait to see both of these great guys again.
That was HILARIOUS!!! Foster Brooks does a similar skit for most women but that's the first time I've seen him fall backwards! I about fell off my chair laughing so hard!!! Just love it!!!!
AMEN. As a people, and a nation, we have lost our sense of humor & our ability to laugh at even the most innocent things that happen to us in every day life. How sad! When Robin W & Richard P & Johnathan W ..just to name a few died, that was "the day that comedy/laughter died".
It's obvious that Brooks had Dean Martin's dance card........the same way that Tim Conway had Harvey Korman's; Foster knew exactly how and when to deliver a line so that it hit Dean just right. Classic stuff.....didn't require any vulgarity or obscenities.
I love the fact that the humor is so subtle that kids could watch it without censorship. They wouldn't know what was going on but it wouldn't need to be censored.
You work with his daughter, wow lucky you. I’m so envious. I’d so love to meet her, her father was a genius, in fact he was one of a kind. I watch a few of his clips every night before I go to sleep. Make me forget all my troubles. RIP Foster.
Foster Brooks was an amazing comedian and actor, and if you haven't seen his act about being an airline pilot with Dean Martin, you've got to see it. It's hilarious and the two of them play off each other very well. I miss this kind of comedy today!
Never again will we see likes of him! And just look at who's sitting up there!!!! I was lucky to see some of this growing up in the 70's and it's even funnier now!!!
I watched Dean all of the time and caught a great many of Sammy Davis' performances all over the networks. It wasn't until I was well into my 50's that I was informed by younger folks that I was supporting racist stereotyping and dehumanizing of people with alcoholism. Well, sorry to say, but the younger folk haven't a clue as to what real comedy was about, and I suppose they never will. Not once did I, or any of the people I grew up with, look at Sammy Davis, Jr. as anything other than a fantastically talented entertainer. As for Foster brooks, we knew it was an act...he was actually drunk. Too bad the current 'woke' folk will have to live with their choices of foul-mouthed, imbecilic talentless 'comedians' that are the stars of today.
DaBirdman1989 Foster really got around in his younger days - didn’t he also claim to have been engaged to Lucille Ball at one point (or ‘Big Red’, as he called her on her Roast)?!😉
Foster Brooks was so funny at these celebrity roasts... His comedic spots were PERFECT & his "Lovable Lush" routines were the absolute best!!! I use to watch these roasts when they use to come on ABC in the 70s...I was around 9 yrs old.
For a 70 year old Brit none of this was shown in UK but now I live in CA if I cant sleep get up and watch the "Roast Episodes on UTube and just howl with laughter even seeing one video 20 times over I still Laugh such sharp humour such Risque humour so so so funny please Utube do not take them down
I LOVE these Roasts too!! I was too young when they were first aired but damn, I too can watch them repeatedly & laugh so hard!! Way better than than the political BS all over the place!!!
If I remember, Foster Brooks was on The Red Skelton show. I love Foster Brooks. What fun it was to watch this. RIP to all those comedienne we have lost
I watched Dean's Roasts simply for the fact that I get to watch Foster Brooks do his thing.. He could make an entire auditorium cry from laughter and could make your cheeks sore from laughing so hard. I always enjoyed watching all the special guests & speakers at that long table cracking up with laughter that they could hardly compose themselves. Dean was the funniest guy to watch as he would turn red from Foster's jokes.. This era of Comedy was truly the best and can never be outdone. Today's Roasts cannot hold a candle to what these major Iconic stars and comedians did back in the 60's & 70's.. Nobody did it better than Foster Brooks playing his Tipsy drinker who was always befuddled everytime he opened his mouth to give his speeches. I sure do miss this Era of life 😢.. it was so special to witness their greatness ❤️
His writing and timing are utterly brilliant: "I remember the first time I laid- *stammer and long pause*..." Just where he cuts off the sentence is a joke, and you KNOW what he's "supposed" to say. Awesome.
Chris Oh Vincent Price took a moment to choose his words carefully when he was at the podium roasting Bette Davis. The pause got many laughing as much as his finish to the sentence.
I have never seen Foster Brooks b4..I've loved every minute..massive thanks for showing me something I'll never forget, & will now watch over & over & find as many clips as I can..Thank u.
I remember watching these with my dad when I was a kid and he will be 86 in two days i think we will have to watch some on his birthday foster was always our favorite rest in peace foster
It's also great to look at all the guests and know their names immediately, even though they're all long gone. Except Betty White, of course! Better people and better times. And now Betty's gone, too.
People today are too easily offended... Difference with the roasts of them days they were funny and real celebrities.... Today the roasts are just foul mouthed and not funny... Different class from yesterdays stars
One of thee saddest things is, nowadays people are offended by "pretending to be drunk" humor. People learned over time, that it was ok to make fun of the NAZIs, but NOT the holocaust. We still need to laugh and find the balance. This "socially woke" generation is killing the human soul.
Dean Martin never drank while performing. His "whiskey" was apple juice. It was an act. Foster Brooks didn't drink at all, he gave up drinking in 1964.
