Intellectualising comedy to appear clever condemns this classical style to the dustbin. Thankfully those narrow minds aren’t likely to stand the test of time like the greats of the past. Odd that Ben Elton, never a funny man, took the reverse route becoming a good author.
From obscure writer to a well respected comedian and household name in less than three months. He was a comedy treasure. It's a real shame we have to grow old. In today's comedy wasteland we could use a consistently great personality. Love always FB.
Foster Brooks was an amazing talent. In real life, he never drank. He sure played those roasts to perfection. Thanks for uploading this and thanks for the memories.
When the audience already start cracking up in the middle of the introduction after finding out who's gonna take the stage, you are one hell of a comedian. You are a legend Mr. Brooks! Dean is surrounded by the best ones of their time.
You already knew this was gonna be HILARIOUS moment cause Foster Brooks was coming up to speak next at the podium because Dean Martin couldn't even hold back his laughter long enough to read the teleprompter correctly... Foster Brooks made these Roasts even more special. His talent for what he brought to the Roasts were 2nd to NONE. I miss those special times growing up in the 1970's as a kid...
I used to watch these roasts with my dad, who's been gone for 30 years. We always looked forward to Foster Brooks. His humour and style is as hilarious today as it was then. I miss you dad. Thank you John for bringing these back along with memories long ago. God bless.
Robert Sterling: I'm with you...I'm 52 and me and my dad (who's been gone for 17 years) used to watch these together on Friday nights and also looked forward to Foster Brooks. Back then, I think I laughed so hard because my dad was laughing so hard! RIP to our dads and Mr. Brooks...and long live the laughter and our memories!
Couldn't agree more... my dad and I would watch these, and he'd be laughing so hard he was in hysteria, with tears flowing... and once Foster got going, we missed most of his material... as he just kept going and going... RIP Foster, and to our Dads who showed us what humor with class is.
man Mr foster Brooks was the funniest no cussing stand up man there has ever been he never used g d or mf or anything like that those good old r long gone
The only thing I could get working on the car was the lights, but every time I did it I frooze my buns off. LOL! Foster Brooks and Don Rickles were the 2 funniest comedians around at that time. Legends.
Nader may be very smart in some areas, but evidently humor goes ten miles over his head. I would hate to be like that. He has the personality of a store mannequin.
dummy....every closed eye ain't sleeping and every open eye ain't awake. Just because Nader is not rolling on the floor like you or Dean doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate Brooks' humor. He can enjoy the performance and react how he chooses. When you were a 'Special Education' student, no one called you stupid or said you didn't understand because you processed information different or had a different look on your face than the students learning the same subjects in the classroom next door. Pipe down with the dingbat mentality; if it was a cookie-cutter world, everyone would be as dumb as you - then you'd rightfully be whining about 8 Billion Nader outward reactions.
Foster Brooks could make and help a stone sing. Anyone who tries to emulate or copy his routine is a moron and idiot. This dude was one of a kind! My father, a WWII veteran would laugh to tears at this guy. Heavens blessing, what slap stick this artist was!! So cool!!
Richard Folkman Right on Richard!! My abs often ache from Fosters homor🤣 His body may be gone, but his legacy lives on... They’re probably cracking up in heaven🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the great posts. I watched this every week. Born in 1950, hard to realize most of people have passed. I grew up near Louisville, KY. Home of Brooks, his brother was Cactus Tom Brooks, a regular on WHAS TV.
Pasted? I'm pretty sure spell checkers were around when you wrote that nice comment about Foster. Of course dictionaries were too, even online. And you've had six years to edit you lack of decent writing. Sad.
What a trivially unimportant idiotic complaint about Nader's reaction. Nothing wrong with Nader's reaction. He was enjoying it. Nader is the great one here. He's not just a dumb entertainer. He's an American icon & hero who has fought for his country & the world & saved MILLIONS of American lives. Without Nader, shitheads would still be too stupid to even KNOW about automobile hazards and we'd STILL be driving in deathtraps.
My Lord, Nader must have had his sense of humor surgically removed. Wow, lol. This skit was hilarious, LOLOLOL!!!!!!!! I would've loved to have seen Don Knotts give AND receive a roast on this program. That would've been great too. Those were the golden years of comedy for sure!
I haven't ever heard about him before yesterday, and every time i click to watch his segment i end up in tears from laughing. I need to take a moment and thanks RU-vid, mankind biggest achievement in civilisation history.
again , brooks does not acknowlege naders prescence , no sense of humour ? dos not talk to him , no sense of humour ? , give the the guy something to laugh at , no doubt he will laugh ,
For all those who cannot understand why Nader doesn't seem amused . . . he's a LAWYER! No idea why he ever agreed to do this. I was shocked when I saw his name associated with a roast.
This guy is the funniest man alive. I used to watch this show all the time growing up. He plays the part better than a real drunk. I give this show on a scale of 1 to 10, a 10 plus. So everyone has gone tho. Making jokes in heaven now.
This roast would have been a perfect time for Red "Why are we giving this man a dinner?" Buttons. Why did Ralph get a dinner? It's a shame Foster had to waste such GREAT material on Nader.
Because Ralph Nader is an American hero who deserves INFINITELY more praise than just some dumb unnecessary unimportant entertainer. They gave antiAmerican fascists like Reagan a dinner. What a waste. No republicunt or democrap deserves a dinner.
@@theultimatereductionist7592 In the words of Sgt. Hulka, "Lighten up, Francis." The idea of these toasts was to be funny, not poliltical. And to call Reagan a "fascist" is beyond laughable. Don''t you have a store to go burn/loot?
"You wouldn't believe how soooom.....how unsaaa......how unsafe some automobiles are today. I drove 7 different cars today and they all smashed up"!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I take back what I said about Ralph not laughing 6 years ago. I could see him smiling at the jokes, so he enjoyed them. He just wasn't laughing until he broke a rib like everyone else.
Is he actually a person at all? Surely to qualify for that description you need to have a personality. He was a 12 year old virgin at one time and he doesn't seem to have moved on.
Everyone comments on Nader's non-reaction and saying he didn't have a sense of humor. Actually, he looks and acts like a man who is uncomfortable being honored. I remember his presidential campaigns he was always kind of a nervous guy who didn't really like the spotlight. Why he was running for president I'll never know.
3.29,,, Personally,I don't care for the standard transmission, I mean You got the Gas Pedal for the Right foot,,and the Clutch Pedal for the left Foot,,now how do you expect me to work the pedal in the Middle?
Reason Nader isn’t laughing too much is because he’s too worried about memorizing his speech, as you can tell he keeps looking down at his notes in his hands that are hidden below the table. Foster picked up on that and tried not to bother him too much and did his normal brilliant sketch.
Nader could have at least smiled just to be polite. On a side note we all know Foster Brooks didn’t drink and neither did Hal Smith(Otis from the Andy Griffith show) but they played the parts to a tee.
