The 2023 Ford F150 Lightning Lariat trim is such an awesome truck. You can even take a road trip with confidence. If you leave it in sport mode, the regenerative braking will help extend the range whether you are driving in town or on a highway.

By the way, the Tesla Magic Docks V3 are now providing the full 500 AMPs to none Tesla's. Just thought I mentioned it in case you wanted to make another video with the improved charging. It should also give you an idea of what speeds to expect after none Magic Docks V3's.

That’s a great idea. Yeah I plan to do another video once they release the adapters. The other issue is that Ford also has a limit on their end. So the fastest I’ve ever gotten at any charger is at EA at 175kw, and most of the time it would be around 140.

@@F150LightningMike True. But the Magic Docks were restricted to 350 AMP's to none Teslas before so the Lighting limit was somewhere in the 120kw area on them, if I remember correctly. So it might be able to now get much closer to that 170kw plus now, or at least into 140's or 150's if the charge is low enough and with preconditioning. Might be a good video to see what Ford owners will soon get when the Supercharger network (V3's or higher) is opened up to them. It should remove the "range anxiety" that mostly only none EV owners believe in, but the very real "charger anxiety" that none Tesla owners have.

@@F150LightningMikeFrom what I’ve heard some states are discussing taxing EV’s based on mileage or just a flat fee since we don’t pay the gasoline tax that is used to maintain the roads. But no states have actually passed that. Florida where I live is discussing a higher annual registration fee for EV’s than the registration fee that we’re currently paying.

@F150LightningMike - I can confirm that here in Georgia, at least, they are recouping the gasoline tax by extremely high tag/registration fees at annual renewal time. I picked up my 2023 lightning on January 2 of 2024. December 28, 2023 purchase. Was able to switch out the tag I received from the dealer for the AFV tag for a net of only about $80. However, they gave me documentation and confirmed to me that when I do my actual annual tag renewal in July… It will be over $300. This is a regardless of whether or not I go with the AFV tag or not… It’s because it’s an electric vehicle. But I think every state is different.

They are really jacking up the fees in states with politicians that don't like EVs, so that you end up paying way more for road maintenance than you would with gas taxes. It's especially harsh on people like the elderly who don't drive much, but still have to pay the full fees. Here in Missouri, a Republican law maker in St. Louis was behind a HUGE increase in these fees as well as an increase in gas taxes, but there is some loophole where you can get out of paying the increased gas taxes (no such loophole for the EVs though, of course), though I would guess most people don't know about it.

I call Ford Customer service, they did confirm that all Lighting owners from 2022 to present will get a free update, but not till spring time. Thanks for your reply, I follow you cause you do a good job. I now drive in SPORT mode to get better milage. I told the rep that it is not right with all the FORD dealers in the UP of Michigan, there is not one FORD charging station. Go figure. Rex

Thank you for watching Rex. That is weird about the lack of chargers in the UP. I’m glad that Sport mode is working for you too. I’ve had a few people argue with me about it. I just have to go with what works best for me.

I just bought an XLT SR Lightning. I love it! I wonder how easy that process will be to get one of those adaptors? There is a magic dock charging station about 45 minutes from where i live in phoenix, so I’m not that worried about it.

I pre ordered a Lecron adapter which was supposed to ship in January but I guess I still have to wait to use it. I mainly charge at home so I will rarely have to use the Tesla chargers but I am very excited to be able to use them for trips. There are some hiking locations near me that only have Tesla chargers nearby and my parents small home town only has Tesla chargers.

It’s definitely an exciting new season. I’m not sure if any of those other chargers besides what Ford sends you will work on superchargers. Plus my understanding is that Tesla is not opening up all of them. Maybe about half.

Easy solution, The auto industry partners with Walmarts and a few hotel chains to put in EV Chargers in their back lots in exchange they get a cut of the KW price action.

As happy as I am for all other EV owners I don’t think just letting anyone charge at a super charging with an adapter is a good idea. With the charge port locations in Mach e and lightning, this will create a big problem by taking up 2 spots. This will clog the network if you get a bunch of fords trying to use 1 location. Access should be limited only to location with a longer cable. As someone who lives in NYC whose super charger network is already clogged with ride share drivers only using the slow urban super chargers we have here, this will not be great for everyone.

@F150LightningMike I would have bought a lightning long before now if I could use the Superchargers. Until something drastic happens, I'm 100% Tesla. The government paying to install Superchargers will be a total disaster.

In the long term, it doesn't really matter what the percentage is. Tesla will almost certainly continue building out newer superchargers like the V4 that will be available to non-Teslas. Some of the old stations will remain around and still be Tesla exclusive. That's fine, it gives Tesla owners a little reassurance that Tesla sites won't be completely overrun by non-Teslas. The percentage of superchargers available to non-Teslas will increase over time. HOWEVER, it's true people should be aware that the entire network is not going to open up to them immediately. It's going to be more gradual.

@@F150LightningMike The moment you do anything that requires a real truck (hauling, towing, going off-road), a trust worthy gas truck is required. EV's are a scam and I'm sorry you got scammed.

I have not towed with it yet. I have definitely hauled with it. Here’s a video about that, and hauling a lot of camera gear has not impacted the range at all like towing does. As a matter of fact, the amount of gear that was in the back and in the front trunk is what I would normally put in a trailer but I was able to fit it all inside of the truck so I think that’s another plus.
