Tortillas, a block of tofu, a cup of tvp, 3 potatoes, 2 peppers, 1 onion, and a bunch of spices. I think I can do this for $8 and I can't think of a cheaper way to get 7 hearty breakfast burritos. I'll definitely make these, thanks for the idea!
I was originally gonna do a price breakdown too, but the video was running kind of long, but on second thought I should've maybe thrown a quick clip about that, next time perhaps!
Also, pro-tip on “vacuum sealing” those ziploc bags by hand. Use a straw, seal the bag up all the way except for where you stick in the straw then suck the air out with the straw and while keeping suction pull the straw out and seal the last little bit of the bag. Works AMAZING every time.
What is the purpose of vacuum sealing? Does it make much of a difference? I've just done these, wrapped them the same way but couldn't get enough air out.
Would love more of these vegan meal prep videos. I'm a vegetarian who is trying to become vegan and I really think prepping all my vegan meals would help!
I'm willing to bet Vegan Breakfast Burritos actually hold up a lot better frozen than Non Vegan ones. Frozen scrambled eggs DO NOT come out good in my opinion.
I made these and they do hold up really well and taste great. I'm getting ready to make a second batch. But I'm leaving behind the impossible sausage. I tried to be a fan but it just ain't happening.
It’s so funny you posted this bc I literally just did this last week. Those sauces look amazing and the tvp sausage looks like something that would go really good in stuffed mushrooms lol
Vegans are truly never missing out anymore. Thankyou Thee Burger Dude for your amazing work and honest vegan endeavours! I cannot tell you how much we all appreciate your channel. It can only go onwards and upwards from here! 🙏🙌
Dude do you have a psychic link to my stomach? I woke up this morning and was craving a breakfast burrito. Now I'm off to the store to make some for the whole week. Also, thank you for making "regular" vegan junk food. I think it helps when people see that we can eat a lot of the same stuff non-vegans do.
I understand that! This one you can honestly do in a couple hours, and I do think it's worth it! I like to listen to some music / podcasts when cooking, it's a great ritual to get into!
I just want to say, you’re my kind of vegan. My lady and I eat this way, but it seems every vegan eats like a damn fairy or bodybuilder. I just like having you on RU-vid my guy.
I don’t know how fairies eat but vegan junk food seems a lot more common than the hippie style vegan food of the 90s these days, especially for vegan restaurants 🤔
Could you elaborate? How does a fairy eat exactly? You also do realize that tofu and TVP both are quite high in protein? Potatoes are full of carbs. Both things muscle bros are into. That said, the food does look great! The burritos are a great way to start the day.
From what I can tell the oven is your best bet and it looks like it takes a while like 30-40 minutes! I’ve never tried it. An air fryer would be faster
If you can remember the night before, you can toss it in the fridge to defrost overnight. If you have a toaster oven, it should only take about 8-10 mins (flipping halfway through if you feel like it, though I never bother) if defrosted overnight. I've never done that with a burrito that had potatoes in it, but I'm sure it'd still work fine.
hey I love your content! I’ve been watching you consistently for the past few months. I was hoping if you could do some high protein vegan recipes! Or even some recipes accessible to college students!
Thanks! This is a high protein recipe, both the tofu scramble and TVP have a ton. And this should be accessible for college students? It's fairly cheap! Let me know what you'd like to see different if not!
I've prepped vegan breakfast burritos twice in the last few months. Definitely going to try the TVP sausage on the next round. I used just egg, but added a crumbled block of tofu, worked well. My go-to sauce is vegan mayo and chipotle tabasco. Thanks for another inspiring video.
Great question! I haven't tested out the oven, but here's a link to something I found... forfreezing.com/how-to-freeze-burritos/ In the oven Reheating your frozen burrito using the oven will take longer but will result in a crispy shell so it's worth your time if you prefer to have some crunch in your meal: Preheat your oven to 400 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove the parchment paper from your frozen burrito if there is any. Cover the burrito with aluminum foil. Place it on a cookie sheet and put it at the center of the oven. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how crispy you want your tortilla to be. Dress it up with some freshly chopped veggies, salsa, sour cream, or hot sauce.
Great video. I've never used TVP, but I'm adding it to my grocery list today. The burritos looked tasty. I do have a bottle of the Peri Peri sauce, but haven't used it yet. Will crack that open as well. Love creating g sauces. Would you mind making jackfruit tacos, a pulled sandwiches also, have you tried the Miyoko's mozzarella liquid cheese sauce yet?🙂 thanks much.
Thanks! I definitely l want to work on some jackfruit recipes. Pulled Pork would be an obvious route! I kinda wanna do the Dr. Pepper pulled pork I used to make before going vegan. And I def wanna do a Tuna Melt / Salad Sandwich with it! I've tried the Miyokos, I wasn't a huge fan but wanna try it out again!
@@TheeBurgerDude I'm looking forward to whatever you decide. I actually used the Miyoko mozzarella cheese on Amy's frozen veggie Supreme Pizza. It was pretty good. Couldn't think of anything else to use it on, unless I make a vegan meatball sandwich. I will say this, it does have a slightly bitter taste. That was right after I opened it. Looking forward to more videos. 🙂
@@TheeBurgerDude While drooling over the vegan breakfast burritos, I saw your mention of a vegan tuna melt/salad recipe. Any realistic targets of when you may do this video? I'd love to see what you can do with any vegan comfort seafood meals. Meanwhile, these burritos 🌯 sound Perfect for supper tonight...😋🌯
I used to make something like this all the time with TVP and Tofu like you did, but I used to throw tater tots in just to save on labor. Vegan breakfast burritos are A+.
I came across Nasoya's Vegan Korean Barbecue Steak the other day and was wondering if you maybe were planning on making something like that in the future.
Couldn't agree more, so tough to find vegan burritos in the store, and I also eat gluten free so it's practically impossible. I'll definitely be trying out this recipe. Fantastic video, thanks!!!
I love the video, Burger Man! Excellent job as always! Great opinion on the homemade fillings instead of store bought. I wasn't into tofu eggs until I bought black salt... game changer! The homemade sausage? Wayyyyyyy better than Impossible. I copied Saucestache's method for making the "fat" in the me'at very recently (water, methylcellulose, coconut oil) and I gotta say... it really changes the quality of a homemade me'at. It is comparable to Impossible, but I control the flavor. I'll be trying your Peri Peri sauce idea when I make burritos for the family this week! Much love from rural NC!
This was incredibly timely. I was literally searching for burrito recipes to meal prep since I've been missing having a warm, easy and quick breakfast. Thanks for sharing!
@@andrewwashere82 JustEgg does taste eggy IMO (non-vegan family likes it too) but the smell is definitely not a good indicator of things to come. You’ll have to get a bottle and take a whiff yourself! 😄
so perfect, man, the paper AND foil wrap, the no messin' around burrito wranglin' style fold, and the fact that he seasons that tvp so expertly, yea I guess to get away with just still using the impossible meat you can try and season it exactly as you did the tvp, with adjustments needed I'm sure. I mean the texture of impossible meat is so fantastic, so I look forward to seeing how tvp compares when I can. Fantastic B-Fast 'riter guide and video Meester internet Borgir-Rito MAN!!! 👅😋👊💥🙌👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🌯🤤🤤🤤🥵🍔😎✌❤
Another great video and recipe!! Thank you... One question... Do you think air frying from the freezer would work to reheat. Say 5-10 mins?? Thanks again!!
When you said it was surprising which you preferred I thought that meant you’d like the JustEgg/Impossible better because obviously the norm is for you to prefer from-scratch over convenience items so that was a big mislead 🤣
Hey Burger Dude! This is off topic, but I want to ask if you can do something to address the seemingly large lack of Vegan Italian food and pasta. Every time I am served a Vegan spaghetti, lasagna, or really any pasta, (especially Carbonara) it is just plain gross. I know I can make ones that are way better, and have many times, but I rarely ever see any videos about it. Mind you I am not vegan, but I do love a lot of vegan food, and am all for more good vegan recipes.
Yes I love pasta / Italian food! I def wanna do a lasagna, and carbonara for sure! I have an alfredo recipe (though it's more of the american style really) and I have a good red sauce recipe that I want to do a video for and showing different ways to use it. Thank you!
Ever tried Gaz Oakley's lasagna? Great video & I feel as if the taste to that recipe is fantastic the two times I've had it --- the vegan "cheese" is a Béchamel Sauce -- so no fake vegan cheese taste (which I think tends to overwhelm vegan italian dishes). Lots of veggies in the ragu base too :-)
are you saying you can't have a burrito every day at your age? :'( oh no! (would a reduced portion or reduced sodium help?) Like a tofu scramble wrap without veg sausage is pretty light & nutritious with veggies!
Looks super good, but I'm not spending 2+ hours meal prepping breakfast for a week. Went overboard on the ingredients especially with the TVP and making the sauces. Would actually save money buying tofu, boca veggie crumbles, and frozen potatoes.
Was thinking 🤔 since you love the spices from the tvp sausage, have you considered adding it to the impossible sausage. Just curious because I've never had the impossible sausage before. Thank you in advance for the response.
This is great burger dude! I've watched every episode of your show and you are quite funny and entertaining. I'm learning a lot about vegan cooking too, of course. Thank you! Can't wait to get your book.
Question: the recipe on the site calls for vegan cream cheese but the video doesn’t have it. Any reason for the omission? Just curious! Love the channel and I just put a batch of these in my freezer tonight. Can’t wait to try them out!
not vegan but i only cook vegetarian so this is still incredibly helpful for me and such a great video when you already have most of the stuff. can’t wait to try it
I hear you! I used to feel the same until I learned that most new ingredients need to be tested on animals. I think we should be working to fix our fucked up food systems instead of boycotting products who aim to reduce animal suffering but that’s my opinion of course! www.lifelongvegan.org/2017/09/should-we-condemn-hampton-creek-and.html?m=1
Just made this. Tofu scramble is great but the sausage tvp has a strange smell and taste. Wondering if soaking in water and squeezing it out first would help get rid of it.
Hey dude. So I don’t have a microwave. How would these turn out in the over you think? I have a feeling they’d burst. 😅 I’m gonna give it bash anyways. Such an amazing idea for breakfast. 🌱
If and when you’re ever in NYC go to Gregory’s coffee. It’s a local mini chain and they have amazing vegan breakfast burritos (also a croissant sandwich and some others) SO GOOD. and with sriracha it’s perfections. But since they’ve been taking too much of my money I will be prepping this. You’re a wallet saver, dude!
I do it whenever I'm writing the script and it comes up in the process haha. I was gonna do a Judas Priest one for Follow the Law, but might save that for another video :)
my vegan scramble: about 70% mashed tofu and 30% chickpea flour batter (runny, water or half water half milk). Black salt, optional turmeric since the chickpea flour is already yellowish, any herbs you want. Chickpea batter in a modest quantity like this to me has a near-grainy richness resembling yolk. If using silken tofu, just mash in pan and reduce the amount of chickpea batter. Honestly mixing silken and firm is banging, but probably not worth it unless you have tofu leftovers
I went to a diner in Santa Cruz recently and their only vegan option is tofu scramble. It is pretty good but still disappointing to only have one option. Pancakes are so easy to make vegan. Actually easier to make vegan than not vegan.
OMG thank you! I have been lost for breakfast since I found out I am allergic to eggs and all dairy. Breakfast used to be my favorite. And Breakfast burritos were my #1 go to. Making these tonight!
I want to say that I really appreciate your content and others like it. Vegan food needs to be promoted as just good food. Not healthy food. Especially when we’re mimicking fast food favorites.
