After encountering mostly passenger trains at Düsseldorf Central Station, I went to Rath for a change. The only train that stops at this station is the S6; otherwise, there are only freight trains-unless a passenger train transfer happens to pass through.
One thing that immediately catches the eye at Düsseldorf-Rath station is that there are still semaphore signals installed here. These are expected to remain in service until 2028. The shunting signals were also very active-but see for yourself in the video.
Just a week before the railcar 711 117 caught fire, it was still happily running around here. Now, these maintenance vehicles for overhead lines are only allowed to be hauled by a locomotive.
By the way, there was a landslide near Hösel in January 2024, which led to the closure of the Ruhr Valley Railway between Ratingen Ost and Kettwig. Therefore, in this video, the S6 only runs from Cologne-Worringen to Ratingen Ost instead of Essen.
