Dave Bautista played Rabban perfectly. Definitely the "muscle-minded tank brain" his uncle declared he was. Rabban has no sense of tactics, let alone strategy.

I love the design of the Harkonnen vehicles. Their ornithopters look like flies and their spice harvesters like ticks.

That Fremen at the end made Rabban realize he’s no longer fighting random groups of survivors, but a unified force of religious zealots.

1:39 This guy is definitely my favourite Harkonnen. Great design, cool, calm demeanour, (up until losing the Fremmen on the computer, that is) and just a good general presence. Too bad he got Rabban’d lol. This movie is amazing!

I always loved when Paul walks out of the dust, an explosion lights his face for a split second. I know it’s a little overplayed but worked perfectly here to depict his almost mystical presence

You can see that nearly dying there broke him. More than subsequent events, being outdone by a bunch of "rats", nearly dying to a woman and only surviving with help from another. Rabban was a bully up against someone not afraid of him/his uncle, and Bautista played him perfectly.

1:37 - The glance of the gunner says "come on man, you´re taking too much time, we are going to die if you take that long". Truly speaks volumes of the Harkonnen ruling.

Dave Bautista is so good in this and after reading that his agent told him to refuse to play Rabban cause he kisses the foot of the other antagonist and he did it anyway makes me have so much more respect for the guy.

Such is the power of religion, faith. The Fedeykin wasn’t going to kill Rabban for Arrakis, or freedom, or the Fremen, or even for Shai-Hulud. For Maud’Dib.

And this is why Fremen are so terrifying. Toughened by condition worst than any planet, and they're all VERY unafraid to die. That last scene showed it perfectly: that one female Fremen jumped into the Ornithopter with no plan of returning back alive. She just wants to kill one more Harkonnen in Muadib's name. Religious zeal, that's one factor. Second factor, they have learned to think VERY long term. They want to turn Arrakis to a green world... it'll take thousands and thousands of years, but they don't care. They've all become used to the idea that they will not live to see the fruits of their labor, but as long as they put in one little effort today, the know that future generation will reap the benefit. In her mindset, the mindset of a Fedaykin, one less harkonnen die today means one less Harkonnen that will hurt her comrades in the future. If she dies, she dies - besides, by time or by blade, she will die eventually. But she will die content knowing others will fight on in her stead in the future because of what she did today. That sense of warrior's community. That's how terrifying Fremen is, and that was just the woman, and that was just ONE fremen. Imagine a million, tens of millions of them fighting with that kind of mindset.

In the future, they have no idea how to make knife-proof armor.

It was interesting to see that, with the more familiar dragonfly-looking ornithopters, there was at least one that had a more beetle-like truncated aspect to it. My image of these aerial vehicles was with more bird-like wings, so it was something to see them looking more like insects... and, to be honest, their similarity to helicopters adds a further sense that they could be real, actual flying machines.

0:09 I noticed the alarms are different from the ones that sounded when the Harkonnens invaded. They went so far as to change the alarms when they took back over.

Compare the last scene to Paul's escape from the sandworm. Paul had his trusted teacher, guard and friend tightly holding his hand. Rabban had to crawl back inside alone, had he slipped, tough luck.

I thought the soldier vomiting was a great way to convey the fear Paul and the fremen had put into the Harkonnen

Great scene I wish they made Raban a little more competent. Killing him in the end was like killing off an NPC.

Giossu Rabban was great at terror tactics and ruthless, brutal oppression of unarmed civilians, but in a stand-up fight he was completely worthless. Even in the book the Fremen, commanded by Paul Atreides (who is, let's see, a Mentat, gom-jabbar tested, has the Bene Gesserit Weirding Way, and oh yeah, is the Kwisatz Haderach) just absolutely *owned* Rabban. It's really too bad we didn't get to see his first little trick - planting shield mines in the desert. Rabban decided lasguns were the best choice against the Fremen, until one of his larger task forces hit a shield mine. They simply evaporated - shields and lasguns are *violently* incompatible. After that debacle, the Harkonnens quit using lasguns. So the Fremen planted MORE shield mines wherever Harkonnen harvesting or ground troops were present. Shields drive sandworms completely apeshit and they will come in from miles, ignoring territorial boundaries, to destroy whatever is near that shield. And that was just the *start* of what he did to Rabban and the Harkonnens. This was a whole lot of fun, though. Rabban and standard Harkonnen troops had zero chance against Feydakin. These were Maud'dib's elite special forces. They ate Sardaukar for lunch. Rabban's troops were a light snack for these dudes.

The sound of the rifle shot reminds me so much of a similar sound effect found in a 1997 legendary videogame called Half Life (and his 2003 sequel too) I wonder if it's intentional

It's amazing that there are so many Harkonnen. It seems like their soldiers would just go join some other house, unless their way worse. Not sure I haven't read the books

This is not a Dune problem per say, but in the year 2024 I would really hope that at least one movie shows armour acting like armour. In every movie I’ve seen blades penetrate armour like it’s paper OR the fighters are so skilled that they make perfect strikes for the uncovered areas without even accidentally striking the armour at some point. I just want a movie where armour gets slashed and actually protects the wearer smh

The start of this scene is so impactful, in my opinion, because they set each scene at Arrakeen up by showing an aerial view. You go into the scene expecting to be taken into Arrakeen, or in this case the Spice Depot, and then your expectation is interrupted by the explosion of the Spice Depot.

Gotta hand it to Bautista for playing a role of a big guy but an absolute coward. He played his pathetic nature perfectly.

Love this scene. If Rabban didn’t give into his fear and fire. The Harkonnens’ would have put up such a better fight and maybe even win with the air support but the fear of the Fremen led by Paul made him fire blindly into the mountain
