Hi Kent, Shannon, Beag Me again, Dave. I've been quietly just watching for awhile, but now you've hit something near-n-dear to my heart! In the early 1900's the Irish Coal Miners here in North East Pa. Called them "Pocket Pies" because they could carry them in their pockets while they worked the mines. If they got hungry, they just pulled one out and took a bite. I've heard them called Mountain Meat pies, Pasties (here in NE Pa. by the Ukrainians and Poles) also Hand pies. Any way you cut it, that's some GOOD EATS, to steal a line from TV food network's Alton Brown. I make full sized meat pies about once a month in the Winter. It's a great Cold day food! I see Ole' Glory is still flyin' even indoors! :~)))) God bless: Dave
@primrozie
@primrozie 4 года назад
My Cornwall, England born grandparents called them pasties but they had different ingredients than the cowboy version! Lol. They were tin miners.
@Stoney327
@Stoney327 4 года назад
@@primrozie Hi I've always called them Pasties. I make mine with ground Beef, Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, and Peas. I believe the English version has Lamb along with the veggies? I like mine with some good gravy over them. Been a Pie Crust freak all my life.:~))))) That's how I make my meat pies too with a top AND bottom crust!. The more crust to soak up the gravy, the better. God bless: Stoney

In Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Cornish miners were the pioneer copper miners during the 1845 copper rush. With it, they brought the pasty as it's ingredients and shape were practical for the climate and bringing lunch down deep mineshafts under their hardhat. The"Copper Country" of Michigan has incubated/adopted it as a favorite ever since.

Wow! I grew up with pasty’s. Never seen them fried before. The miners wives would bake them from the supper table leftovers. They were wrapped in wax paper and shoved in their pockets. Where ever the miner was in the mine, when lunch time come, just sit down and enjoy. I don’t mine so I make mine and pour gravy on it when I eat. Very versatile food. Well done.

Travis Brown On another of Kent’s videos I asked if anyone knew how the Brits say it and a nice Englishman said the sUce and the town have always been “Wooster - shire.” We still just call it ‘wooster’ here.

We would call it a pasty only because of its shape, but my Mother loved a meat pie fried. A meat pie in the fat was popular with her generation. I was brought up in Liverpool in the 60/70s. 💛🇬🇧💛
