all magic is done by visualization. if you can't visualize you can't do anything. we don't really know what frieren really used in that scene, so everything with regards to that is just pure speculation.
@@boboyo3140 My guess is that her visualization was so precise that it changed how the world around her worked on a fundamental level. Freiren clone didn't throw Fern against the wall with magic. She altered gravity and Fern fell against the wall. Again total speculation, but that's my guess
its a golden era magic that only Frieren, Serrie and Flamme can use and it wasn't recognised as magic by the magic association because of its unknown characteristics it was like sort of magic pressure released by the user that cause like a gravitational like damage
@@boboyo3140 Best guess is that it's just raw mana manipulation, something that expends crazy amount of mana and leaves her wide open, but it's a last resort type of thing.

You guys reviews of the episodes are always my favorite part, I watch a lot of reactions to this show but you guys always have something unique to add, this a sign of someone who's really paying attention and thoroughly invested in the story. Love it!
for some reason i grabbed this little moment. when Lawine was running towards her clone in slow motion, you can see her legs up close. and the laces on her boots were moving. FREAKING LACES! the level of detail in this show is astounding 13:13 also notice that this isn't even the first mimic in this treasure pile, it's at least third XD
Something else small I appreciated was how Richter leaned back slightly as he was talking across the room to Sense at 4:09. It's a little mannerism people sometimes have when they're talking over distance and are looking for a response.
Imagine if you dispel an understandable demon magic(Aura’s scale) or a powerful barrier casted by strongest mage(Seire’s barrier ). It is very difficult to visualize as you cannot understand the theory of the magic or imagine yourself beating the mage who is far stronger. Frieren has strong magic foundation due to her age and talent to be able to do so. This is incredible feat that normal mages couldn’t do. That’s why she’s being called genius by Lugner. She told Fern that they could win is not only to give her confidence but also help her visualize that she can beat her.
no, the reason Lugner called her a genius wwas becaue he didn't know her age. they judge other mages by thier mana, but Frieren's visible mana doesn't look like she's really old. so Lugner thought the same as Aura, that Frieren is couple hundreds old, but still she kills them left and right up to the level, when demons said she killed more demons than anyone in history. so Lugner thought she's couple hundreds old yet have that level of power, that's why he called her a genius. in fact she kinda is, but not combatwise. her magic analysis ability is literaly next to none, but i doubt Lugner knew about.
The funniest part is in the treasure room there are two more dead mimics already next to Fern and Frieren. So the mimic Frieren is stuck in is already the third she fell for in this room alone :D.
Ubel's visualization is not exactly a talent as much as it is a mental disorder really. Consider this, when you see cloth for the first time you see it as a simple fabric. Whether that cloth is thick or thin, it is still cloth and you assume it can be cut right? Now, imagine that that cloth is reinforced with carbon fibers or even thin metal rings. What would happen then? You identify the reinforcement and you know intellectually that this isn't just a simple piece of cloth anymore. It isn't something that can be cut with a pair of scissors and you will search for another way to bypass the new armor. That is the logical thing to do, that is what been able to identify a difference in a previous concept leads to. No matter the imagination you might have, there is no way a person would gaslight themselves in believing that a pair of scissors would be able to cut reinforced steel. That is what bewildered Sense. Ubel is doing exactly that. She knew that the cloak in front of her was tank level armor, she knew that anything she threw at it would do nothing to it, yet, she actually believed that what she saw in front of her was not reality and that it was a simple piece of fabric! I mean who does that? Even idiots that do the same attack again and again against a fortified position believe that the attack will eventually work because the previous attacks did some damage, not because they actually believe that the new attack will actually work on its own. Ubel literary has programmed in her soul a belief that if something is cloth or hair as a general concept, then that something can be cut period! It's not something that can be taught, its not that I will convince myself that I can do something. She actually perceives this as reality no matter that it objectively is not. And she actually knows it is not in an intellectual level. That is why Sense is horrified and calls her crazy and her ability a superpower. Because it is actually something that IS crazy and Ubel IS crazy. And that is where the limitation of her power comes from. She can cut anything she has identified as something that can be cut since she was a child. Meaning cloth, hair, flesh etc. She can't cut cleanly stone, steel or wood or anything else like that. Her attacks might do some damage, but those attacks would do as much damage as the force behind the attack, it will not bypass it completely like it would do to cloth or hair. But defensive spells such as the one used in the series is another thing entirely. The defensive spell used is a mana construct that its entire purpose is to block completely mana based attacks such as her signature spell. She learned this to be the truth when she first learned the spell and grew with that concept as an absolute truth and reality. She never had any other influence about this, so she can't convince herself that her attacks can actually bypass this defense which is why Wirbel managed to defeat her. Her attacks were blocked and he is overall a better fighter with far more experience and talent likes she herself admitted.
I’m here for Ubel cause ngl it’s the delulu for me lol. The idea that a significant part of casting a spell depends on your mind’s ability to visualize what you want to happen is such a good touchstone
The "not fatal" line is definitely for Frieren herself. As she said before that, "if I focus my mana on defense, the wound will not be fatal". She planned to focus in defense, like a different approach. Because remember, last Episode 25, their initial plan is to have Frieren vs Frieren offense to match as equals and have Fern as the difference but it didn't work. So their next approach, is Frieren have to focus on defense and sacrifice to get hit, and when she gets hit, Fern will do the all-out attack.
No, not really. Frieren had to create a big opening for Fern, and she could only do that by letting the clone come close. She had to focus on defense to avoid a fatal wound. What created the opening was Frieren pointing her staff at the clone when it was close
The move the replica Frieren made is what Frieren was referring to not having to use for 80 years. When Frieren said “it won’t be fatal” she was referring to taking a hit in order to create a larger opening for Fern
obviously. she said "if i focus on defence...", ofc she meant she will take a hit. Fern could actually finish the job if she kept shoting till the clone turn into dust.
"Pinnacle of Magic" the term used in the manga means its not just the height it is the highest point. Pure magic no staff no casting just visualization.
@@Circle9ru I think its a Great Mages level. Serie and Flamme dont use staffs. Remember Flamme nuking bunch of demons with just her hand. Serie is way stronger you'll see her fight or you could say play S2 probably.
@@user-en2hk3bt3v, man, i read the manga, i know about Serie fight with Macht when she wasn't even serious. and speaking of staff/no staff, Richter don't use staff, and he's a fckn child compared to Frieren. also Frieren can use magic without staff aswell. staffs are kinda plot hole tbh, we don't know if mages need them at all. may be staff or wand increase accuracy, or may be they use it when learning and most mages just get too used of it to stop. its hard to say, but using no staff is difinitely not a trait of a great mage.

There's no doubt she reigns supreme over ALL the mages of this era." This is Frieren talking about Serie. In a fight between mages, Serie, the strongest mage alive, reigns supreme. Frieren stands a grand total of ZERO chance of beating Serie in a fight because in this world when it comes to magic, "that which cannot be visualized cannot be". And since Frieren CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE herself beating Serie in a fight, she lost it already, she would LOSE against Serie 100 out of 100 times. I also think you're seriously overestimating this ability of Frieren as some invincible move, but it's not. The real Frieren was able to take out the clone because using that move left her wide open to an attack. Someone like Serie, the LIVING GRIMOIRE, who has knowledge of every spell ever written, could simply use golems to jump her if she tried that move on her, or use clones to jump her as well, or pull some even more wild shit from her immense arsenal, lol. FRIEREN said she can't EVEN IMAGINE defeating Serie for a reason. I'd say the strongest mage alive has the right to fuck around with whoever she wants (assuming we're talking about MAGES).
@@boboyo3140, Serie is also made of fleash and blood. any spell the mage can't defend against is potentially lethal. for example, why Frieren lost to Macht and Qual? she couldn't defend against thier magic. for Qual it ended very fast when Frieren got a way to defend against Zoltrack. and Macht lost to Denken after Denken got protection against his magic. and we talking about Denken Frieren wiped the floor with not even being serious in exam arc, that's how much of a difference it is betwin blockable and unblockable magic(same as Draht's ,magic wire could kill Frieren in one attack if she didn't know how to protect against it). ofc, Serie is by far not Qual or Macht, but it doesn't make her invincible. as for imagination part, Frieren said the same shit about Macht, but 2 months later she was ready to finght him. ofc it not gonna happen that Frieren will fight Serie, they simply have no reason too. but that spell is dangerous even for Serie. and given a fact that its almost 100% that Frieren invented that spell, Serie don't know it, not to mentoin having a counter for it.
Basically Frieren saying she had to resort to a spell she hadn't used since the fought the Demon King is saying that fighting herself was on a similar level (not the same as since she had an entire party then but still a very dangerous foe)

Lol since a lot have already been comparing this arc to the hunter exam, I just realized Ubel kinda is a mixture of Hisoka with the crazy and Chrolo with that copying ability, her condition in this case is to connect to her target emotionally or something.
Ironic how Sense tells them that 1st class mages need to "overcome unfair diversity" when she admits to herself that she could not defeat Ubel. Tad hypocritical there Sense don't cha think?
she's not really hypocritical. the whole test was about them to work as a team. Frieren broke the logic of the test. if there was no Frieren, Sense clone would be the last boss, and working together shown very effective against clones. Sense clone would stand no chance against all of them attacking at the same time.
Frieren told Aura “if you had tried to swarm me with numbers I would’ve been in trouble.” After seeing this insane show of strength I think she wasn’t just deceiving Aura about her mana lol
no, the "being in trouble" part coming from Frieren trying to not damage the corpses Aura controled. so yea, if she send her whole army at Frieren, it will be almost impossible to win without damaging them.
It's the concept of magic in the story. Many episodes say that magic is imagery. Other mages would just think that this or that thing had protective magic cast on it. Attack magic is imagery. As for the protective magic, it is the one that causes the images to be limited. Therefore, other people couldn't destroy it because they couldn't see how to destroy it. But Yubel just thought it was just hair. The hair must be cut. But you have to imagine how to cut it. It wasn't belief, it was more common sense, which mages who used imagery would forget.
but the question is this then : if you have a mage imagining that his cloak can't be cut , and one mage that imagines that she can cut said cloak , who wins ? The cloak guy obviously had extreme confidence in his cloak as well , just as ubel had in her ability to cut. At that point , shouldn't the one with greater mana win ? Honestly , that part seems inconsistent to me , because it's not just 1 mage imagining an effect , but 2 that are imaigning 2 opposite effects.
Isn't the one with the greater imagination the one who wins? It is about how good you are to visualize and materialize in your mind what you want, Not about who's the one with more mana, you use mana to manifest the spell. You can cut cloth with scissors It doesn't matter what you do to stop it, scissors can cut cloth. Of course as Sense said an ant can't beat a dragon no matter if it is capable of visualize something but as Methode said battles are like an overly complicated rock-paper-sissors game and It just happened that the proctor's defensive spell was a impenetrable cloak against a scissor that can cut cloth, again: rock-paper-scissors. well, I think that our problem is the same as the proctor's and almost every mage: we think too much😂
@@caBr010probably not , otherwose child mages would be the strongest - since it's well known that kids have the most vivid imagintion. Yet , we've seen time and time again , that older mages with more mana and experience usually come on top. Second of all , we have no clue what the cloak guy even imaginated. Yes , ubel might have imaginated cutting cloth when she slashed , but the guy might have imaginated his cloth as....i dunno.....plate armor , or a frikin fortress for all we know. So which one of those concepts apply to the cloth first ? Is it a cloth that can be cut by scissors , or is it a fortress ? And what determines who has better imagination anyway ? The author saying so ? IF that's the case , then magic is at best inconsistent , and at worst it's just a plot armor for characters to be as strong or weak as the author needs them to be. Lastly , imagination without thinking isn't possible. To imagine complext outcomes , even as simple as "cut" you have to think how would you cut it , or were would you cut it , and so on. Saying "you think too much" after saying that "magic can't create effects that youc can't imagine" is a really inconsistent way to write the story
you guys don't understand the concept. the rule is "what can't be visualized, can't be done", it doesn't work other way. if you can't vizualize you can't make it work, but if you can, it will only work if it can work. for example, Ubel can't cut the fire, even if she can visialize it, the fire can't be cut.
