What a difference. The way she looked going in and how she looks coming out. A total make over. Really good job both of you. You more then deserved a break.
She looks fantastic with all her super shiny bits. You must be really chuffed after all your hard work. I hope you are still feeling the love for seabird.
Your sailboat is Beautiful! 💖 Trim that tree away from your boat. Don't want bugs, birds or rats getting onboard. Good job. You have a beautiful sailboat.🤗Cheers, S/V Cork~Texas🇺🇸🤗💖🐬⛵🐕
A little trick for when you need to expand an existing hole ... use a bung to fill the hole (everyone has these on their boat) tapping it in until seated. Next use your vibrating multi tool to cut it flush with the hull (inside or outside depending on the state of your paint job), and now you can make the center and use a regular hole saw setup to drill the larger hole.
I've used that method before. But we couldn't find the bungs, plus it needed to be placed in such a way due to the bulkhead and the transom. If we could have done it easier we would have. Hate to make a job more complicated than it needs to be. Cheers for watching 🙂
I love your commitment and dedication to Seabird. Her hull looks amazing in the sunshine and you could almost sense her excitement of getting out of the shed and into the sea air.........another step closer to splash day.❤
thank you for making videos of everything you do, thanks for showing all this 👍 the boat looks great 👌 you two are great 💪 nu hurries, no worries ✋ after al the sanding, waterdust is waiting... 🌬🌦⛵ have a good weekend, keep smiling and see you next week !
A Trick if you have existing large holes that you need to re-hole saw. you can often stack hole saw bits, on the pilot, so if you put the bit the right size for the existing hole, inside the bit for the size of hole you want, you don't need the pilot bit to go into anything as the inner smaller hole saw bit will track the existing hole.
You guys rock! There is a trick or two you can use in the future if you have a hole you need to enlarge. 1). Put a wood plug in the existing hole and drill through it. With new larger size. 2) stack two hole saws on the mandrill bit, one the new size and inside it the old size to act as a centering guide. Keep up the good work! Sv Zig Zag.
I totally agree/know the methods you speak of. If it was possible to do it easier, we would have, trust me! 🤣 We have the transom and a bulkhead, so going dead centre was not an option. The bung method could have worked if we knew where the bung were. Not spending €20 for a packet of large bungs that we'll never use 🤣🤣🤣 So with those factors in mind, we had to series (pepper) drill and clean up with the dremel. It turned out OK, but it took longer than initially anticipated. The fitting also has 4 bolts holding it on, and that was an even bigger nightmare. Most importantly, it's done! Cheers for watching 🙂
Seabird is looking beautiful. Well done Marina and Stu. It never goes smoothly when it's something worth doing right. And each challenge tests your resolve and your patience but every step makes you stronger and the boat ever more nearly done. So happy to watch you guys show all honestly, ups and downs. Keep going ❤
She looks an absolute stonker, you two did a wonderful job already! I don't know about your schedule, but from over here it looks like you are right on track with that project. 🤗
Hiya, I haven't replied for weeks. Apologies. A lick of paint does the world of good. I honestly thought the boat didn't look that bad. Then we painted it, it's still OK... Then we compared the before and after, WOW. not to shabby. Plus we just got a new piece for the next phase. It's big heavy and shinny. How's it all going with you? Making progress I hope. Cheers for watching 🙂
@@SailingSeabird Absolutely NO WORRIES! 😆 (You folks have over 42,000 subscribers! That’s a business in itself…on top of restoring your boat.) We still have one more hole in the hull to fill, cockpit sole to fair…we’re sanding decks, rebuilding the mast step, raising the lifeline stanchions, making new lifelines…rigging, new port lights, etc. etc….three years in the yard, so far, working every other weekend. We’re not getting any younger, and that drives us. My husband wears hearing aids, and I am legally blind, but we crack on. We will get our boat back in the water. You inspire us. Bright things make me happy, but so do bow rollers with a nice patina. 🤣😂😂😂 We sold our dinghy, and are building a new nesting dinghy….and…stop reading, get back to work! 😆🤗🥰❤️😎
I once built a 45 ft Aluminium Cutter and sailed it for 26000 nm. Your work is impressive and I want to congratulate you on your work. The building took me 7 years. Here is some trick I used. I never made a plan on when the boat was to be finished and then one day there was absolutely nothing left to do, so I guessed the boat was finished. It did work for me. Lots of Luck to you from Tom Fausel (82) formerly Skipper of Cherheito II
You had the right idea cutting the hole for the exhaust. You could use the inside piece screwed to hull to secure it so the hole saw runs on the outside. Great job so far More patience than me thats for sure.
Cannot look at any of the jobs on the boat now, without thinking beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! A great job done great attention to detail and nice finishing touches...though I know it is still along way to go before sailing. Good job guys, very good job!!!
Thank you. Step by step. Now onto the next job. Only a bit more grinding left inside, then to nice clean jobs (if you can put it like that) Cheers for watching 🙂
Hi there u 2. Try Citronella oil toiletry soap when you shower. Then get Citronella oil to rub on your skin. Mosquitos will fly 700 naughtical miles away from you. If you eat garlic, that also keep mosquitos away from you at night. As soon as mosquitos smell your breath, they get go ahead to suck blood, but if you eat garlic, they get terrified and leave. Thank you for your up building videos. My favourate show. U 2 are great!!!!!!!!!
Erm these are French Camargue Mosquitos 🦟🦟🦟 .. garlic has no effect regrettably anywhere on 🦟.. though im not aware of any historical french vampires.🤷🏻 😂🧙🏼♂️
When you need to enlarge hole- put the size cutter on the mandrel first, then put the original hole sized one into the mandrel so you have 2 cutters mounted (loose the drill bit). this will be the guide to hold it steady and true. YW :)
If only it was that simple... The cupboard inside wouldn't have allowed it or the stern as it's quite thick. We did try a few different methods, none of them worked so had to series drill it. Turned out OK. Cheers for watching 🙂
Wow , I have been watching for two months the whole boat rebuilding , it was definitely scary a few times. Keel was really scary, but happy you all pushing threw the hard spots , I probably would have ran away but now your on the home run , always wanted to sail , who knows may still happen. But your chasing your dreams , good deal , I'm liking your videos now as I go . Great job !!
Awesome progress, knocking off one milestone at a time, you guys have a great mindset. Been following since the first video with all the expletives! Your work looks fantastic.
Hey Stew and Marina. Love your videos. I usually wedge a piece of wood into an existing hole first, then use a hole saw with a centring bit now having something to centre on. Works well on doors, so it should work in your situation as well. Keep up the good work.
Wow, she’ a beauty, what a long journey you are having, the boat is beautiful, you deserved time off from working and editing vlogs, where do you and Marina get your energy :-) you should bottle your source and sell it :-) thanks for sharing with us all, would like to help! Good luck!
Impressive! I'm sure that's not the same boat that went into the hangar a while ago. You two are doing so well, what a story you could write. Well done.
WAHOO!!! Exhaust hole: I think everybody has tried enlarging it as you first did; it won't/can't work. IF you're lucky enough that the diameter of the first hole exactly matches the inner diameter of an available hole saw, you can cut a plug with the hole saw that fits, then put a gap on the plug, and the side where you can insert a "key" to keep the plug from spinning, then drill it out with the appropriate new hole saw. This way the centerpoint stays in the same place. Yes, Marina certainly did put enough caulking under the bow stem. A fig tree? Soon you'll be stepping the mast and she'll look like a proper sailboat!
Slowly getting there. Tbh, we are too focused on the next mission to waste time marvelling at our paint job. 😂🤣😅🤣😂 But the paint looks OK and the shinny hardware. Cheers for watching 🙂
When I saw how much Sikaflex you had on the bow I was like.... nooooooooo, that's going to be a mess. Then you skipped right to the finished job 😅 I'm assuming all was okay. Fantastic work you guys. The boat looks beautiful.
Looking good I cant wait to see more progress, a little tip on using hole saw, put blade just inside template you was using a nice thick piece of ply which is perfect, switch drill on reasonable fast speed then gently push onto boat or object your drilling you won't get the horrible snagging, looking real smart I'm envious 🤢
