Him not getting out as a tail ender batsman just rotating strike helped Hussey get his ton, because if McGrath got out... he wouldn't have been able to...
Well certainly Mcgrath's job here, as no. 11 was simply to stay there and not lose his wicket, allowing the other bone fide batsman to make the most of his own innings. Much the same as Jack Leech was highly complimented for his role while Ben Stokes played a heroic, or heartbreaking innings (depending on who you are) against Australia to pull off an extremely unlikely, miraculous victory.
Completely earned it tbh - he wasn't out there to make runs, he was out there to stick around and support Mike Hussey. And he did a perfect job of that, which is incredible work from a genuine #11.
Oh man.. How amazing this game was back in the days.. As an indian i really miss this Aussie team which always found a way out of any situation.. Would've loved to watch this team play the current Indian team with Dhoni as captain!
I still remember this day. I was 18 and helping my parents unload furniture from their storage cage in Artarmon in Sydney. Dad and I turned the radio off when McGrath came in thinking it'd be all over soon. An hour later we got back in the ute and Australia was still going. What a memory. I hope RU-vid never dies so I can watch this clip in 40 years and still remember this day
I loved this squad in that era. and loved the way they're performing in the match, using their sportive and strategical skills. And i believe, this past squad is several times better than the recent squad.
@@amritsrivastava2114 the current team is a contender the old Australian team was the undisputed best team in the world. Doubt we will see another dominant cricket team as the great Australian team of the 90s and 2000s. So many test victories and 3 world cups in a row will never be repeated.
All the gaze is on Hussey... but without McGrath holding his end up this would never have happened. Well done Ohh Ahhh for sticking in there to let Hussey do his thing.
Memories of the SCG Australia v Pakistan where Siddle helped Hussey to another 100. Quite obvious at the time the Pakistanis also helped with dodgy field placing, bowler rotations and dropped catches. An obvious match fix, one that the commentators failed to see even though it was happening right in front of them.
