The new nut that you had to install would of course be tight to begin with it is a "NYLOC" i.e has nylon in the end of the thread (the blue bit) to ensure the nut does not come undone. It is advised to never use the old nuts as these may have damage i.e thread damage or rounding and the nylon in the old nut may be old and cracked. I am not trying to be a negative Nancy just want you to be safe in you're travels and also for anyone who watches your video. Cheers...

At the point he didnt understand the large plate washer i was concerned. Then when he talked about the nyloc nut i dont know why he's working on it himself. Quality bushings should have come with instructions.

Not really that important. Could be solid steel and would run for 300k

Its amazing how much 'sharper' a cars handling and ride feels after you've changed steering &/or suspension rubbers. As you've found out, it can also be scary when you see just how bad a condition some of these rubbers are as your changing them, I know I've had a few surprises especially when there's nothing but rubber dust left where there once was a buffer. A suggestion for DIY'ers is talk with owners of the same vehicle as yours to find out if it's better to fit rubber or urethane replacement bushes/buffers before spending your hard earned $$ and fitting the wrong thing. I've had Japanese made vehicles that just don't like urethane, maybe as its a harder material but rubber is spot on. Then again some cars prefer urethane in place of rubber as a total fit out, but others only like some of their rubbers on certain components replaced with urethane. Then you have the query whether you do or don't use a Rubber Grease or Silicon based lubricant on your new parts, especially on front torsion bars. Good video though Matt, it's smart of you to show the type of problems you came up against as a 'heads up' for others that may have to do the same job.

Did this recently on my GTO; I'm looking forward to the snow clearing up so I can test it out!

Hi, do you recommend any particular brand of bushing kit or did you use the OEM or Holden brand parts? Also can you provide any useful retailer/ supplier links please? Here's one I found,but don't know if it's any good www.ebay.com.au/itm/Front-Castor-Z-Rod-Strut-Rod-To-Chassis-Bush-Kit-for-Commodore-VT-VX-VU-VY-VZ/132968309653?_trkparms=aid%3D333200%26algo%3DCOMP.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20171012094517%26meid%3D04e2bc44b6f44b7cbd396abbf1b66326%26pid%3D100008%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D192946637654%26itm%3D132968309653%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100008.m2219 Cheers

Hi m8 I'm having trouble reassembling my tie rod end. It keeps turning as I go to screw the nut on. Hav tried holding the shaft with locking pliers but keeps slipping. The other side from memory didn't give me this trouble. Any pointers? Might just buy a new 1 must b stuffed!

Hay mat can u answer a couple of questions 1st do the monaro hav the same rear axels as the vt vy sedans also do they hav the same chassie?
@PandaGarage
@PandaGarage 4 года назад
Hey! Yeah, Monaros and commodores share the same platform, the Monaro has a 100mm less overhang in the rear

From experience of doing these, if installed incorrectly, the whole arm pushes through the bush and the wheel moved all the way forward when driving down the road. The spacers need to be installed properly when doing the wheel alignment because they position everything correctly
@PandaGarage

Thats exactly what happened to me! Learned my lesson and have done it properly!

That sucks man! the castor effects the way the car steers so hope its all good now

I drove it on the weekend and all it needs is a wheel alignment, that should get it back to its old self!

Hi panda noticed u hav a sump pan gaurd did it com stock with the monaros or is it aftermarket?
@PandaGarage
@PandaGarage 4 года назад
Hey! Yeah this is what they come with stock. It’s a steel bash plate that is really good at stopping any rocks and random road crap! I’d say that the commodores would have come with something like this. Worth having!!

For not that much more nolathane is worth doing , the nolathane is worth the little extra as they last longer and are more rigid

It's "compuytly bent" because it has had an impact on that side mate

Shifter! Not even once! Grab yourself a couple different length breaker bars if your ratchet isn't giving you enough torque makes life easier to undo stubborn nuts and bolts also! If you're planning on doing the lower control arm bushes and ball joint my advice would be to save yourself the headache of installing new bushes into the arms, going to need a decent press to do it, plenty of options out there for new lower control arms with fresh bushes and ball joints already installed, have a set ready to go in with new sway bar links as soon as the 6L conversion in finished in the Monaro.

I got my new old stock control arms at Prestige Auto Venue in North Coburg, they may have some sets left....

It's fair you think it's boring for people to not want to watch the boring bits, but don't time lapse it newbies want to see everything. My partner recons he needs special tools to do front end bushes

You did all of that so wrong, also hope you got a wheel alignment afterwards, all those spacers are for adjusting the castor. It will now be different and it also vastly affects the toe

Hey mate. Maybe invest in a torque wrench rather than reefing with a rachet or shifter?

@Paul-zv2gj

You really should have done some research before starting. Under braking the wheel tries to pull rearward. With a small washer the force will obviously pull ut through. Nolathane have a video on youtube for this already
