Once the hub is removed, it's very easy to remove the dust shield intact and add a DIY brake duct or remove it altogether. If you decide to keep the dust shield, the dust shield may be bent where it touches the rotor. it's more annoying than harmful, but take a few seconds to test rotate the rotor and bend the shield back if necessary. If you do remove the shield, I applied some aluminum tape to the ball joint boots to help reflect some of the brake heat.

Good points. I have run into the issue where the bent dust shield is scraping my rotor after I get everything back together.

@@DIYGuysvideo Yes, it's a terrifying noise when you do your first test drive because it sounds an awful lot like a completely shot wheel bearing.

I think a Modifry Coolant Module would be a very helpful DIY for most people. I just installed it and really it wasn't awful but could be explained a lot easier. Hopefully you know someone with a pre-06 who could use one.

Will probably never do that unfortunately. I’ve moved on from F20s and all of their problems.

Hey, awesome vids as always. Quick question, I need to change my studs, is there a way to do it without removing the entire thing (knuckle and hub) like you did? I would prefer to do it without removing the hubs from the car.

A DIY for the Shifter Dentent Springs would be awesome! Nobody seems to have a DIY on it. LHT just mentioned it in a recent DIY. It would help a few owners with older cars that have higher milage and some stiffness getting out of gear or gears popping out. Since you have a CR, a video about the trunk reinforcements would be helpful for those running wings in general to prevent "potato chipping" the trunk. Also an update on the pulley bearings would be nice.

I’ll look into the shifter detent springs, a friend of mine has installed those.

On the wheel hubs you listed the link, is there a difference from right and left? Or they both the same ? The link doesn’t show for s2000 but Honda specifically

Do you recommend replacing both front hubs/bearings if only one needs to be serviced (stripped studs in my case)? I know the front hub/bearings aren't usually an item that fails with wear.
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 2 года назад
Depends on your situation. If high miles might be worth it. Otherwise no. The fronts rarely ever fail.

I was wondering how often you use your 20-ton press? I used to be a Honda Master technician and I do all automotive repairs myself but have run into needing a press a couple of times for random things and I was just wondering how useful yours comes in. How often do you use it? I'm debating on picking one up because I have limited space in my garage.
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 3 года назад
I don’t use it much and I think I use it more than most people since I make videos and DIY most of my own stuff. Probably 1-2 times a year if that.

@@DIYGuysvideo thanks for the reply. My guess was I wouldn't use it very often either and it'd just take up space in my garage. Thanks for the videos you spend time making and keep up the great work.

What brand of bearing and hub did you use?

WJB. Cost me about 25 for the hub and bearing. Haven’t had issues with running Chinese hubs and bearings on track yet.

What can I do if the snap ring is seized
@DIYGuysvideo

Maybe use some liquid wrench. It’s not seized. Can also use a mechanics pic and flathead to pry.

Every video i see involves toving the knuckle. Is there not a way to press in the hub bearin assembly without all this extra work??
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 2 года назад
It would be more work to do the job with the knuckle still on the car to be honest.

Its better to remove the notch off the axle nut with a screw driver before you hit it with a impact gun.
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 3 года назад
Agree. However I found it really challenging to actually undo the stake. Enough torque and it won’t matter :)
@Leon-999
@Leon-999 3 года назад
I use 2 piece of wood and mount it on a tree to torque the axel nut 😁 ibb.co/CsjJvWm

Should not put the plates under the caliper bolt ears. They can snap off. Better to use a proper bearing clamp tool.
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 3 года назад
Something would have to be really wrong for the caliper bolt ears to snap. My wheel hub came out with extreme ease. Seems to be the method that Rob Robinette used as well. I can see the bearing clamp being helpful though.

you dont need 20T Press.... 12 is just fine
@DIYGuysvideo
@DIYGuysvideo 3 года назад
I originally had a 12 ton press but it was taking a worrying amount of force in order to break the old wheel bearing free from the knuckle that it felt uncomfortable. I think it depends on how old your knuckles are and how much rust or corrosion there is. 12 ton press is fine for getting the new bearings in though.
@riceball777
@riceball777 2 года назад
@@DIYGuysvideo I have personally done this with my harbor freight 12 ton press but yes it was not easy. I had to use most of my weight on the jack handle on the press before it finally broke loose.
