In this Video I am going to discuss How to Prevent FROZEN SHOULDER & SHOULDER PAIN in Diabetes. Frozen Shoulder is also called as Adhesive Capsulitis and this condition is much common in Diabetes.
Frozen Shoulder is a disease of shoulder joint in which this joint gets frozen and stiff. There is decreased range of motion of shoulder joint. When Shoulder joint gets frozen completely then this condition is called as Frozen Shoulder or Adhesive Capsulitis in Medical terminology. There are 5 Key features which are present in this condition.5th Feature is very important and it is present in every patient.
1. Patient has shoulder pain during wearing his shirt and he cannot wear his shirt adequately.
2. He cannot apply soap on his back during bathing.
3. Patient feels severe pain in his shoulder if someone strikes his shoulder.
4. During sleep He often wakes up due to severe pain in his shoulder.
5. Patient faces extreme difficulty in combing his hair and this feature is almost universal.
Women often has this condition more than Men and mostly women suffering from this condition are from 40-60 years in age.
FROZEN SHOULDER is very common in diabetes. Patients which have Uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus or Having High Blood Sugar Level are mostly suffering from this condition. Sugar Molecules attach with Collagen in Shoulder joint and cause Inflammation and stiffness of Shoulder Joint. Range of motion of Shoulder Joint is markedly reduced. This problem can occur in One shoulder joint or both Shoulder Joints. Patients having high HbA1c Report Value or Prediabetic Patients are at increased risk for Frozen Shoulder.
Other Different causes of Frozen Shoulder are
1. Shoulder Trauma resulting in fracture of shoulder bones and immobilization of shoulder causes frozen shoulder.
2. Surgery of Shoulder Joint
3. Idiopathic Form
4. Patients Older than 50 Years in age
5. Goiter Patients, Hypertensive Patients, Parkinsonism Patients etc.
Symptoms of frozen shoulder are
1. Shoulder Pain which increases frequently
2. Decreased Range of Motion of Shoulder Joint
3. Difficulty in Sleeping
X-Rays of Shoulder Joint & Blood Sugar Level Test are advised by your Medical Doctor. Different treatment methods for Frozen Shoulder are
1. Oral Medicines for reducing Pain & Inflammation
2. Topical Gels for application on Shoulder
3. Injections if Patient experiences Severe Pain
4. Rest at Home and be Stress Free
5. Hot Packs application on Shoulder
6. Physiotherapy of Shoulder
7. Control of Diabetes
There are three Methods for Checking Blood Sugar Levels.
1. Random Blood Sugar Level
2. Fasting Blood Sugar Level
3. HbA1c
Patient is advised Sugar Free Diet and Medicines or Insulin for controlling High Blood Sugar level in the body.
Most of the patients are treated by methods mentioned above but If problem persists then Intra-articular Injection of Corticosteroids is given to the patients.
Some of the patients might need Manipulation under Anesthesia and Arthroscopic Capsular Release.
