My no. 1 trusted RC review and interest channel, best by far 👍 This whole Frsky backlash is so irrational. I'm not suggesting brand loyalty is a good thing per se, but people who use miss information to discredit a business, product or development are harming a hobby for their own gratification or reputation. I hope that Frsky can ride out this current onslaught and continue to develop. Thank you, Andrew, for a sensible and pragmatic approach and not jumping on the F**k Frsky clickbait bandwagon. P.S. I always fancied moving to Aus when the UK summer is persisting down and cold. Now that I see gloves and coats I am re-evaluating 🥶

Certainly is irrational. So much speculation and mis information being presented as fact. I'm in southern Aus which can be a bit English in winter, but never for too long.

In the radio Special Functions setup a switch, I use my ARMing switch, to SD LOG. It will creat a file by model name and date and record all that telemetry from the s.port onto the radio. Very handy if you have a lost aircraft, you will have the last known GPS and altitude saved. Also in the OpenTX Companion you can open those files and then click the little globe and it will open up Google Earth and show your 3D flight path on the map. The iNav Lua is also very handy if you have all that telemetry coming into the radio.

Gosh, I'm SOOOO out of touch... And that's just the way I like it. Let them reinvent things and wrangle over protocols and whatsits and doobries and doodahs. I'll continue to do my own fixed-wing thing-thang. None of my stuff's broken, so I'll not be fixing it any time soon. :-) [P.S. That was some beautiful first-time weeny one-touch soldering, Andrew. Bravo!]

So much confusion around the ACCESS protocol... Any transmitter with the new ISRM module supports both ACCESS and ACCST D16. As long as you don't need D8 or LR12, the new transmitters will support all of your receivers. The older XJT transmitters continue to only support ACCST D16, D8 and LR12. You CANNOT update your XJT transmitters to ACCESS. If you for some reason need the Archer receivers, you'll need a new ISRM TX. The old XxR series receivers only support ACCST. The relatively recent R-XxR series supports both ACCST and ACCESS. But I've heard that you can't go back to ACCST firmware on those if you've previously flashed them with ACCESS. I personally use all of mine on ACCST. The new Archer receivers only support ACCESS. By the way, there is an "ACCESS" (ISRM) version of the QX7 and QX7S. It too support both ACCST D16 and ACCESS.

Mr.Newton, for RTH did you change the "LAND AT RTH" in iNav to get the rover to stop when it gets to you? I know you said you were going to try it since it was just loitering around you when it returned.

Howdy Andrew, it's odd that the primary output is SBUS, but to connect it, they've put the SBUS pin 4th on the PCB, so you can't use a normal servo plug to connect to it (SPORT is in the way) So.... It's assumed this will be in a quad and/or soldered directly to? Crazy tiny though! Matt
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 4 года назад
I think F-Port might be the intended primary output, so then it makes sense with SBUS and S-Port sharing the S-Port pin and using a normal servo lead
@NoAgendaFPV
@NoAgendaFPV 4 года назад
They've been doing that on all their "newer" receivers. The R-XSR, RX4R and RX6R for example, have the SBUS pins fourth (-, +, S.port, SBUS) agree it's really annoying.

Any ideas on what I can do, any advice is much appreciated

I'm curious if you update a qx7 to access. Does it eliminate accst capability from your radio. Im still using accst but recievers getting scarce. If you can run both I would definitely add access ✌
@AndrewNewton

I think you need a more recent ACCESS radio so it's probably not possible with your QX7. As I showed in the video my X9Lite does have ACCESS and ACCST, it's not one or the other.

You would have to flash ACCST 2.X to your existing receivers if you upgrade the radio to ACCESS / ACCST D16
@pbshooter100

All my radios are ACCST. Frsky has on purpose broken the backward compatibility with their newest firmware. If I want to use a receiver with the new firmware I must update the firmware on my radio. If I update the firmware on my radio all of my receivers that run older firmware will not work with my updated radio. The only recourse is to update all my older receivers with updated firmware. On top of that they introduced a whole new protocol (ACCESS) which adds even more confusion. This is all total crap. If I was just getting started in the RC hobby I would avoid frsky and go with something else that is for sure.
@lDavidl
@lDavidl 4 года назад
You can't update your older transmitter to ACCESS. And all ACCESS tranmitters also support ACCST D16. This way you are never forced to update the firmware on anything to ACCESS. You do however need a new transmitter if you'd ever want to use these receivers.

Come on these are ridiculous cheap come with over the air updates can do f-port and FULL telemetry this is inovation from FrSky and deserves much credit imo! I have several of these and use them as a replacement for d8 spi receivers in tiny hawks etc they work fantastic more range than an spi rx and so much more. I even have one in my Armatan Rooster it works faultless and for a mere 12 english pounds sterling! FrSky are the company doing all the development and inovation what have Jumper or Radiomaster come up with other than ripping all the good points from FrSky like the Horus color display where is the huge range of receiver choice from them ? they are just simply knocking off FrSky and I dont blame FrSky for bringing Access to the user.

F-port is only the used patch on a bad relation of Smartport ( negative signal output) and F4 flight controller. Fport has only 2/3 packet throughput compared to the smartport and this with 10-15% of dropped and dublicated data pakets. @paulg5437

The only problem with upgrading the transmitter firmware to 2.x is that it then wont work with older D16 receivers (only a select few can be upgraded). You could install a 4-in-1 multi protocol module to get 'old style' D16 back but is it worth the hassle.
@AndrewNewton

That's right, you wouldn't upgrade unless you have to. But so far the XMR is the only one I can find that cant be upgraded, do you know of others?

Andrew, Well I have a lot of the X4R & X4RSB receivers which although possible would be a pain to to upgrade plus some compatibles. Also, while I do have a an X9D+2019 which replaced my venerable (but knackered) X9D, I've been looking for a backup radio and noted your reviews of the new Jumper/Radiomaster offerings which I believe are still limited to the old D16 protocol (until it can be reverse engineered).

Isn't Accss protocol that protocol you can not downgrade anymore? That's why I sold my taranis 9d or whatever it was called and switched to Jumper where I had the issue to get one due to FrSky boykott of sellers that still had Jumper in their shelves. The absolute no go for us here and since I did not buy any frsky piece.
@AndrewNewton
@AndrewNewton 4 года назад
No that's not right. I just tested it myself with an R-X6R receiver on ACCST 1.X, flashed it to ACCESS 2.X then reflashed it back to ACCST 1.X with no problems. Also the FrSKY rep confirmed that you will not be locked to ACCESS if you upgrade your receiver.
@typxxilps
@typxxilps 4 года назад
@@AndrewNewton Ok, then they must have changed that cause the upgrade to 2.* was a one way only as Pawel Spychalsky from Berlin / Poland had showed a year ago like a lot of others. That was the reason to get rid off all my frsky stuff as the actions against jumpers radio that wasn't a copy. but thanks to clarify and maybe worth a video to make that change public

I used to be the biggest fan of Frsky, but no more. Just so much of a headache compared to TBS and their system. Waaay to many updates with software to get Frsky to work right now. Plus all their new radios are crap in my opinion, and the way they slow down the protocol if you use a module that is not Frsky is just lame. Plus I don't aporve of the way the bullied merchants into selling only their radios is total BS! I still love your channel though, but will not support Frsky anymore, I'd rather buy Radio master or Jumper if I need a new radio, luckly I already have two older Taranis that were made back when Frsky was still a good company!

The new transmitters are pretty much identical to the old ones, minus D8 and LR12 mode. How does that make them bad? I mean, yeah, fuck FrSky for practically dropping what, 90% of their customer base with these new receivers. But the products have definitely improved. They (R4 and up) even have external voltage telemetry! No more LiPo buzzers for me. I absolutely love that.
