This receiver takes the already popular XSR and XM+, combining them together to get a super tiny, full range telemetry receiver. It works great, however I would recommend swapping the antennas for the standard 31mm quarter wavelength ones.

antenna length also depends on the coax used too. they could have used a coax with a different velocity factor which require adjustment of the active element

Hi Seth, in order to activate your telemetry , solder to the (P) pad on front side of the receiver for your hack. And then do natural smartport telemetry programming.

So today I destroyed my VTX, so I tried to do LOS like you I felt like I was doing pretty good, but then of course I hit my arm. I was at at around 75% throttle there is an amount of blood on my floor nice video

The RCAddict iv got one of these in a old quad and i just noticed iv lost the little gold top of the bind button can i still put it in bind mode in the cLi in betaflight using the bind RX mothed as i was going to update the firmware

The shorter antenna doesn't always mean that it's a 5th wave length if they have built in resistance it can still be 4th but smaller mm in size

I have to admit; I was a little intimidated by its size(tiny). Nevertheless, I got it installed and sync'd it to my QX7. Set up Telemetry on the TX screen. This is amazing! I have a goliath ZMR 250 but, I'm sure the racing community loves the R-XSR. I'm cringing to think about the Nano just yet.

XM+ does accept rssi. You just have to download the firmware and flash it through your transmitter. All the firmwares are on Frsky’s website.

Reviewed like a boss! I would have liked to see which pad to use for the un-inverted smart port. You still have to solder on the other side of the inverter like with the XSR right?

Depends (doesn't it always lol) I ran the cyclones for racing for fear of battery life and durability over the GF, but I ran the GF 5152 at a race and my battery held on, and they were plenty durable. They are just sooo fast and locked in, my main prop now and then will switch off if need be depending on the track or goal.

Ill be installing this into a Pylon racer will go 180 mph with sbus running to flex gyro. At least they glue down those antenna's some get lose over time those tiny antenna plugs fall off if they move around too much.

hello, i have the same receiver and i have a question, i only use this receiver in my quad, and i want to know which cable do you use ,, sbus_in(white) or sbus_out/cppm? i don't know why, but mine is binded correctly with my taranis but when the drone doesn't controller board doesn't receive anything

Simple as plugging in the RX while holding down the button and hitting bind on the radio.

Having issues with mine on a CLRacing F4s, it binds but no receiver response in BF. I used the 3 wire harness on the R-XSR with the yellow coming from the s port on the receiver going to sbus (uart1) on the FC. Any ideas why the receiver isn’t responding? Channels maps are setup correctly. Thx

You need to run the SBUS signal to a UART as well.

Well gotta do full rebuild since kraken 5r it crashed when anouther guy powered up but anyways I've always used omnibus f4 pro and used x4r or xsr but there to large..this RX do well without fail-safes?

Yep, it's literally an XSR, but tiny! Oh and it doesn't have the crap firmware some XSRs have, so this is the one I am buying when I need more rxs :)

Would having two different length's mess things up? And covering the end of the antennas with heat shrink does not affect signal right ?

Nope, it uses whichever one has the stronger signal, so it's probably just going to be using the correct length one more often. Nope, heatshrink doesn't block rf.

Bruce at RC Model reviews did a study on the antenna length and i believe he came to the conclusion that the difference if any was negligible. And whatever circuitry they used was able to compensate for or improve reception regardless of precision tuned length or not. I thought as you do that it was critical for best performance but apparently not as important as it was before. That is not to say large differences won't matter but small ones were indistinguishable.

Yeah, others recently have said similar. I am still having some failsafe issues when racing when using the R-XSR and XSR though, which I cannot pinpoint the cause of. It might just be a firmware issue, but I also fly XSR for freestyle and get a mile of range... I am trying moving to X4R-SB now.

Hey! i love and appreciate your hard work i was wondering if you had to pick a 4 in 1 esc for general use acro race whatever weight not important. what would you choose. I have a couple that were cheap or i could get in a couple of days but i was not impressed.One is a Racer star anniversary, 35 amp i think and one was from Crazy pony @ amazon and that one is just plain CRAP like their customer service LOL. I dont have alot of time on either and i had a motor start to smoke on boot before i reprogram the racer star kinda scary but it seems good now. I just don't have time or money to crap shoot a good esc Thanks again!

I cannot get mine to bind to accst To save my life.. I tried updating firmware on radio changing firmware again going over and over only binds to XJT light module regular d16.. I just got it with geprc cinepro drone like a month ago

I got one of these just after release. No issues with it. We had to nag frsky to update the fw so we could use lua. Now that's working I don't know why you would buy the XSR anymore!

The RCAddict yep, all stock. No issues with it so far. Although you have tested the range further than I did so it's good to see you had no issues either. I've no idea why they used that length of antenna either. But it seems to work!

It looks so much smaller than the XSR, really quite tiny. I couldn’t really see much difference in the RSSI between the antenna swap. I’ve not really had any failsafe problems with my XSRs with the stock antennas. Is there solid evidence that 1/4 wave has the strongest signal?

Yeah, I should have paged over to the RSSI screen, but didn't realize it until after :( 1/4 length with antennas such as the X4R-SB has shown longer range over the XSR with the 1/5 I really am no expert though, just going on what I have heard, and thought these being even shorted swapping to the full length 31mm would be better overall.

A very simple mod to the antenna is to simply cut the signal receiving section of the antenna to a better wavelength. Don't remember the exact dimension of the old XSR but I believe it is around 35mm. This cut of the shield needs to be clean so lightly solder the area before making the cut and this will give you a perfect edge. This simple mod to any of your antenna will give GREAT advantage . Swap the red and black wires on the servo header side of the three wire harness and you’ve got a harness for flashing the newest firmware.

I just bought an rxsr. I also just bpught my first Taranis. X7, it came with all the scripls installed! I bound my first rx an xm+ to it and everything went gr8... I got the r-xsr and went to bind it the same exact way and i lost my xm+ rx, but thats not all.. The rxsr seemed to bind and everything, i was getting one blue and one green solid lights.. I was getting telemetry to my tx but nothing in the receiver tab in bf? Any ideas as to why all this is happening, i mean what i did wrong!!

You could have used the SBUS in rather than the out by accident. Binding a new RX to the same model with not cause other RXs to lose their bind.

Hi Seth I'm running a chameleon bout 600g I've been using Hypetrain motors but I've had a couple were the flux ring has dropped what motors would u recommend for freestyle?

Those motors are a good choice for something heavier, but if you don't like them maybe try a 2207. I am running the Hyperlite 2207 on my freestyle quad at 620g and it has tons of power. Just have to be a little careful with your battery.

Anyone have any luck setting up F port? I flashed the receiver and have control but no telemetry besides reciever voltage and rssi, nothing from the FC. I'm new to frsky so please forgive my lack of knowledge. My set up is on the omnibus f4 v3 FC.

Silicone wire insulation and crimped terminals don't mix well. The insulation tends to tear at the insulation crimp where the crimp wings are folded back over into the wire.

You always need to use what it came with! ORIGINAL length, as every RX has they'r own logic for length and speed of light. So better not to switch! XSR with standard antennas made 4.8km on wing with normal rssi at 50~

Your escs get connected to the flight controller, and you can calibrate them through pass through.

H, my escs are connected to the Naza Lite V2 and the receiver FrSky R - XSR is connected to the other side of the Naza! but I don't know how to calibrate

Oh, if you are using a NAZA system it has to be done manually. Take your props off, put your throttle to 100%, plug in, it should beep a few times, and then lower throttle to zero. Depending on the ESC you might calibrate them like this, or you might enter the esc setting menu. Hard to say with older ones.

I tried that! but it does not work! when I put the throttle to 100%, the left front motor that has the problem still it stays spinning slow and when I lower the throttler to the middle something the motor stop spin! the other motors respond well! the ESCs I'm using are the T-Motor F 30A V2 2-6S ESC BLHeli_S w/ Dshot

You might want to do more range testing before finalizing on the longer antennas. These are monopoles, which means there is no ground element. Instead they rely on the ground plane of the receiver and anything else that is electrically connected. It's possible the antenna length is tuned for this. Also, I would say you probably were about 1/4 mile out. But the exact range can quickly be verified using Google Earth. :-)

Yeah, unfortunately it's not 100% plug and play from the XSR, you just have to move one wire over in the connector.

Yes but it's not stock ready to go, which is what I am interested in. Wire it up and radio yells at me lol. I am old fashioned, don't use LUA scripts, smart audio, or telemetry, or BF OSD. All I need to RSSI warnings and voltage osd

You can have it on channel 8 as well and run d16 1-8 channels at 9ms. I have it set up that way on my osd rssi .no need to hear the transmitter tell me when i can see it. I also got a mile out my xm+ before video break up and was still at low 80 high 70s rssi at a mile.
