Really great info here, still relevant for set up my X-Lite S. Watching other videos had my scratching my noggin because my screw packet looked different, but fortunately you explained that!

I had one of the ones with the small screw and it was going down the side of the arm so not letting the stick go loose. I removed the back and put a new long screw in, I put 2 nuts on the inside, locked them together put it back together, screwed the screw all the way down and my stick was spot on. so thanks lee it was a big help when I saw that you had put the larger bolt in the back.

Just flew with my XLite for the first time today. I think my two X9D might be going up for sale soon! Wow, so convenient and modern. And I love that they have spec'd li-ion batteries which have better energy density and easy to charge safely and keep spares (can find up to 2000mah 18500 cells). Only shortcoming for me was the teeny short stick ends - unusable for my big hands. So I made a pair of my own alu stick ends which feel fantastic for thumbing and pinching, with more throw than my X9D has with long sticks. The other issue is this radio is REALLY sensitive to UHF EMI - my MFDLink made it crash and shut down just bringing it within a few inches of the UHF module (On my X9D), not even attached. Nevertheless, I look fwd to a much smaller kit for travelling by air now.

I ran into the same problem with my X lite transmitter, unchecked the eu box in open TX but still wouldn’t bind to non eu gxr6 receivers. Tried everything untill finally I found out I had to flash the INTERNAL iXJT module as well on the transmitter via the sd card with the FCC firmware. Then it worked. I had the black eu lbt sticker on the X-lite as well. So you have to flash 2 things on the radio, the open TX non eu and the internal module...Hope this helps.

Hi i have a qx7 and im switching to xlite can i just remove the sdcard from the qx7 and put it in the xlite? so i still need to do anything?

HI not much of a problem but advice welcome, when i power the radio up the radio screen shows throttle at full when it is at its lowest point and will not arm thankfully! until i push throttle stick up and pull it back down to minimum then it sets the throttle at the low position? then functions normally.

Please see the OpenTX series. You need D16 for X series relievers..

Hi. I know this is an old video, but recently updated my radio X-LITE Pro to opentx version 2. 3.10 now the radio will not recognise sa if sb in use and vica versa, on the hardware page they are both set to 3pos switches which they are, and both are recognised by the screen on the radio, outputs and mixer are set correctly, but when you look in the receiver tab you only see the slider move for sa or sb not both, any help would be appreciated,

Hello sir I have a question I can’t seem to find a video with answers I’m trying to bind this same radio to a frsky Xm plus receiver When I do the button and power on I get green and red lights And no bind ?? Any ideas ?

Nice video Lee, I'd like to know if you got -100 to +100 on that throttle after you calibrated though. I can only get -97 - +97 or so after repeated attempts. There also seems to be limitations on the EU firmware, I don't think you can get D8 mode with any EU build, (well I couldn't find it) and the Long Range module will only give you 25mW if you want telemetry compared to 100mW if you use the FAA build. I wound up flashing the X-Lite to FAA, (all three flashes) and then the receivers on three models I was binding to it, a hard nights work with little documentation.

I have an EU build, just flash it with the open TX FCC firmware and don’t forget to flash the internal iXJT lite module afterwards as well. Otherwise it won’t work on the non eu receivers.

Sure Eugene, I've done this but I live in the EU so strictly speaking it's now illegal. Some of my micro quads are D8 rx so it was the only option. Plus it removes the limitations with the R9 module.

Help ! Keep getting throttle settings warning on betaflight and cant arm. Lowered them as much as possible but still wont arm. I think it's this transmitter how doni adjust the throttle settings on here please. I'm confused with all this. Got a diatone 349 and this transmitter cant for the life of me get it to arm! Beeping driving me crazy!

I thought mine was set up right but the right stick seemed to set up weirdly; pushing up made the drone strafe right, down strafed left. .. left and right were opposite too. Popped it up 2 foot off the ground , when suddenly it shot up and started drifting off. Failsafe didnt do owt, the neighbours were laughing as I ran to my car to give chase. Hour later and a broken prop Its recovered. Shall try again in the morning. Yea, controller feels nice though...

I have a few videos on binding. Most of these models need the radio to use D8 mode and FrSky have stopped installing support for it by default...

Mr Painless , I bought one of these radios but for some reason it will not obey me, I have done everything you have done then inserted the memory card and turned on for the first time, I then set up my first model and bound them together but for some reason when I switch my modes the buzzer goes off, got any ideas as im ready to send it back as I am not impressed, good job I kept my old faithful Taranis x9d plus.

thank you for replying and the cause of my problem was my own stupa as I have not built a model for a few years I had forgotten to configure the model on betaflight in radio settings, "modes" once I did this everything fell into place, happy days and ill let you know what I think of the radio once I have used it in the field, I have also ordered thru hobbyrc the R9MM that's going to be fun setting up !!

Could be a few things. If suspect that the firmware on the model isn't the same (FCC VS EU firmware), see my Opentx series and Trashcan reviews. What troubleshooting have you tried?

It's not great for fixed wing as the trims are non standard and only available for two controls (aileron and elevator) by default. You can use if for a 'plane though..

I do with they included them in the pack. For some finding these 18500 can be tricky. There are lots of them now on places like Amazon..

That depends on the receiver that you are using. PPM has fallen out of favour and most of the series receivers these days use Sbus. Happy flying!

Didn't realize you need the sd card. Thought that was just if you have a ton models to fly. Since it's needed, they should have thrown one in. The batteries I understand, shipping logistics and all with batteries, but a needed sd card not included?!? Still, going to get one next month, as I love the size, just a little disappointed of yet another item to buy to use it, past the oddball size batteries.

Great review again Lee, However personally I would not buy one for Three reasons. #1 Dose not come with Battery's #2 No easy way to connect a neck strap, and the 3D printed ones you can get are £20 wow.. And lastly you have to remove the Battery's to charge them, and not everyone will have the wright charger, so more expense. I will stick with the Turnigy Evolution. But I can see the usefulness of this TX for FrSky users it's a nice small well made light weight TX. Such a shame because when I first looked at this I was considering making the switch to FrSky for my Quads.

These things are a personal choice George, but in defence; no batteries as they are an issue when shipping them but they are not expensive. Great advantage with removable batteries over the EVo as you carry a spare set and your Tx never runs out of power, with the Evo I had to charge it every time having had it run out on me at the field. I can't see why anyone would use this with a neck strap, it's too small, but each to their own. I have 2 Evos, an X9D and the X-Lite and the X-Lite is the most convenient and programmable.

Sorry Lee I hope you know by now I'm a big fan and respect what you do, But i have to respond. There are 100s of pilots who find it very difficult to fly without a neck strap, me included, and this has nothing to do with how light the TX is. Also I only charge my ELo once every couple of weeks, and I'm out almost everyday and never had it run out at the field even if i have ripped 30 packs ( ok on average i only have about 10 packs with me per day ) but still that's most days.

I do not have the right charger. But there is many ways to charge them on a 18650 charger. I printed adapters that you can find on thingiverse.com.

I've been terribly disappointed with the instructions that came with my X-Lite. No mention of how far to turn in the screw for mode 2 throttle. All the way in, hand-tight, just until the return to center spring loosens? Been watching video after video with no explanation. After trying every combination of screw tightness I can't get a working throttle. It just flops around, so if you take your fingers off the throttle during a flight the throttle will just fall with gravity. I either have a broken gimbal from the factory, or it's been broken because there are no directions on which direction does what with the screws or how far to adjust them, or warnings if they're adjusted too far.

You need to use the right length of screw, as I cover in the video. I agree with you, the instructions for this are not very good at all. Best of luck..

@@Painless360 Yes, I've watched the whole thing...and your description is the best I've found. Still not sure if the "correct" way, or the way FRSky designed it, is to screw it in 100% all the way until it stops or just until the tension is gone. There's quite a few full rotations between those 2 points. 2nd complaint is the instructions should say don't bother adjusting tension as only 2 of the 4 travel directions adjust...it feels way wrong to have pitch tight & roll loose. Hope it didn't come across as complaining about your video...was directed at included directions only. Thank you for the video, and reply. Just very disappointed to get a nice new controller only to find out I can't adjust them to feel good to me. My old TX's have adjustments for all 4 directions, and as my first FRSky product I didn't even know it was possible to only make 2 of them adjustable as I don't see a use case for that. Lesson learned...I need to watch more video reviews BEFORE purchasing instead of reading the documentation which lead me to believe all way tension was adjustable by way of grub screw.
