Several times now I’ve had a huge problem with the FrSky XM receiver. There is a MASSIVE latency between switches or stick movement and the flight controller seeing it. The XM delay makes it totally unusable. Thankfully I was able to fine an easy fix. Upgrading the firmware on the XM didn’t fix it, and neither did installing Betaflight 3.2. But a simple change to the radio config fixed it for me. Hopefully it works for you too.

Thanks a lot man! I had never used these in the 8 or 9 that I've built. Got the KK ET115 in to play with the other day and it came with an XM that had the same issue. This was causing me to repeatedly utter wtfs. I doubt I will notice a difference in latency with 16 channels. I have watched a bunch of your vids and I don't have a clue why I wasn't subbed until today. Very clear and concise explanations for us beginners. You also seem forgiving but honest in your evaluation of gear. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I try to be fair in the reviews. The amount of tech we get for the money is amazing, but it isn’t perfect and it rarely “just works”. You can get that, but it costs WAY more. And everyone has a different opinion of what is acceptable.

Thanks for this video. I was having a different problem with my ET115 (BNF Frsky) and this solved it. Mine would bind, but it never responded to the radio at all after binding. I couldn't see anything from the radio in Betaflight. I tried everything I could think of, changing UARTs, re-binding, and several other things I can't remember now. Then I saw this video and tried binding it with all 16 channels enabled. It finally works!

You're a good man for posting this video. The only explanation I can come up with is that perhaps there is some excess signal processing going on in the XM when the Taranis is set up with a Channel Range of 1-8 in the Model Setup page, but your quad is using all 8 channels (or perhaps more than 8). Widening the Channel Range beyond 8 may change how the Taranis sends the signal and the XM receives it, eliminating that processing bottleneck in the XM causing the massive delays.

Oh man thanks for this video. i had Banggood resend me a new Frsky XM. The new one didn't work as well. Turns out they both do work.. On 16 channels. Weird, but glad that there is at least a workaround for this awesome tiny receiver.

I have a xm+ reciever and the aileron channel is reversed from reciever to control modual not trans to reciever, have you seen this or doI have to flash something. useing radiomaster tx16 s trans. If I reverse trans then ail backwards trans to reciever but rifgt reciever to modual.???? thks John

I have a tiny7 with XM receiver (AC 900) and it won't bind, I've bound many drones before so I'm not sure what's going on. The Frsky Taranis X9D plus is new to me but I don't think it's the receiver. I tried redoing the firmware on the drone to no avail, still won't bind.

I’m having a similar issue on my qx7 and xm+ receivers now. On my right stick (pitch/roll) but not on my throttle I have a good 1-2 second latency but it doesn’t happen all the time. Just yesterday it started getting really bad. I went out to do some race practice with the hawk 5 and pack one was perfect but packs 2 an 3 I had the issue then packs 4-6 we’re fine and then 7-11 the issue came back. And this wound up happening on 3 quads all with xm+ rx’s in them. But on my beta65s and my babyhawk r it worked just fine. Weird.

thanks, my xm+ receiver faded red blink and dont connect transmitter, while ı use broken problem, ı give 2s lipo on receiver after light is shining, firmware flashing successful but dont comminicate with transmitter red light blink but faded

I noticed in your video that the radio is right next to the quad if you didnt know this you need to have your quad at least 2 to 3 feet away from the quad for it to work. Maybe try this on the next one without doing anything else and see if that fixes it

When i connect my lipo to the 90gt... the sound it makes normally only sounds halfway... not complete sound... but binds... green. Connected to betaflight plus lipo all my switches work... the moment i unplug the usb the fc has a flashing red light?? And switch and stuff dont work anymore. I updated the latest spracing3 board bf3.1.7... so i kept the arm on while i removed the usb and hovered... after 5seconds it went crazy and crashed...

I have the Aurora 90 and I’m getting major 1 sec delay and its supposed to be set up in D8 not D16...tried everything not sure if its a bad Frsky receiver. I have the Qx7, any ideas? Thanks

Yes updated everything. Setting are bang on according to what everyone else has...SBUS, TAER , etc etc..Don’t know why I’m still getting 1 sec delay like your but only 1 sec...

+Charles Lamoureux Have you tried it live on the model with props off to make sure it isn’t just betaflight? If you have I have heard some people had luck actually going back to old firmware. I haven’t run into this issue in D8 personally. Just D16.

Out of the box it had the 1 sec delay..I tried to fly it and almost killed a tree because of the delay , I was able to land quickly. So I updated everything and still samething. SO its not the firmware , I thinking it ‘s bad receiver

Mine xm was slow too, but I said what ta hell, I keep it and see what happen, so after setup I disconected from computer and all normal, was only when conected with computer.

I've used for a while the XM+ with NO issue. That being said... Just 2 days ago I purchase a new one. Hooked everything up, bound it. Plug into my PC open, beta flight.... and like your issue I encounter the same. I remember back to when I first got a XM+.... Had a simular problem. Simular NOT the same. So I try to remedy my NEW problem via exp of my past. Did NOT work.... A day go by..... Puliing teeth. Then this morning.... I coincidentally move one if the rx antenna. There the problem was. I remove the heat shrink. And the antenna connector was loose. I reply it. Problem fix.

Hey do you have any idea as why rssi is now not available in newer xm I ordered I have couple of these but in previous versions I do get rssi and not getting in newer ones...any solution ?

Getting RSSI where? You won’t get it on the radio. There is no telemetry. You can get it in your osd if you set that up.

DroneRacer101 no no not on radio but on betaflight GUI or on osd I am getting accurate rssi via channel 16 or on auxiliary 12 but on receiver purchased recently I am not getting it so did you got my problem

Ok, try channel 8 also. There is a a version of the firmware that uses channel 8. If that doesn’t work you will probably need to flash the firmware on it. After receiving many XM receivers that did not have this problem, today I received one that did... only way worse. With channel range in the Taranis' Model setup Menu set to CH1-8 (9ms), I was getting only 1 second of control and then nothing. I remembered this video, and tried your fix - setting it to CH1-16 (18ms), and it was much better, but control was still intermittent and lagging a bit... In the end, I had to flash the receiver with a previous firmware - found at: www.frsky-rc.com/xm-1g-sbus-non-telemetry/ Select the one dated 2016-12-25 (the one dated 2017-03-28 has the problem). After I flashed the firmware, I was able to use CH1-8 (9ms) again, with no problems at all.

Strange. Does it happen with all of your XM receivers? Because it doesn't happen with any of mine. Usually, increasing the channels increases the latency.

+Temporal Flux this has happened with the last 4 I have gotten. True. That is exactly why I normally keep it at 8. But setting it to 16 increases it by milliseconds. When it also decreases by seconds I will take that trade. :-)

Temporal Flux I'm pretty sure this is because the XM and XM plus receivers were made to run on D16 they were not made to run on any other mode ..... And now we see why lol

+RCFlyer85 This XM is still bound using D16. The Taranis defaults to only using channels 1-8 though because it can do that with less latency. You should only increase it if you need more channels, or have this problem.

Mine on the BabyHawk is doing it and it won’t even show the switches on the modes I’m so frustrated. I have a green light showing I’m bound and everything. It’s crazy I don’t get it. I think I tried doing what you did on this video but I’ll try again. Thanks

DroneRacer101 ok thanks a lot. I’ll give that a try. It was showing I was using an out of date version and I may have updated with a released candidate not realizing it. It was showing the switches before that they just had a lot of latency so that’s probably what the problem is. Thanks keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks again. Don’t know if I’ll get to it today but I’ll let you know if that fixes it. It’s got me so frustrated I had to walk away for a bit before I smashed it with a hammer lol.

That happens regularly when the version of Betaflight on your PC and on the FC have a compatibility issue. Update your FC and it should be fixed.

......the wife caught me.....anyways....didn't work. !@#$ me! Getting frustrated. Naz32 rev6 with xm+. Motors spin up in beta but the radio tab won't do anything. Yes I've gone through all the settings. Accelerometer is even turned off to try to see if that worked (Joshua B recommended). If you have anything else ease throw it at me. I'll try anything. Signal wire IS plugged into uart2 which is #4 on the board.

Oh yea, I am a VERY long time subscriber of Bruce and +RCModelReviews I even referred to him being able to find a reason for this in one of my takes for this video that didn't make it for one reason or another. The XM issue with with SBUS so it's going to be similar, but different. Ironically is has the exact opposite fix. :-) But I hadn't seen that video. Thanks for the link.

Which model did you get? Which receiver? What radio do you have you bound to it? I don’t doing in to every detail of setup in this video but it may help if you have FrSky. I already watched That video. I have a frsky taranis plus and my kingkong came's with a xm reciever. I tried everything i already worked 4houres trying to fix it 😫. It just wont work.
