Wish you luck on your journey, Andrew! We definitely need more older trans representatives in the community. People need to see more of this. Hope you're well! I'll definitely watch a lot of your videos now! x - Daniel / Camden , A younger FTM person

I also transitioned later in life. Started T at age 55. It took quite awhile to see changes for me as well. I didn't "pass" as male at all until about 4 years later.

Hi. Thank you for your video. My son has recently told us he's trans. He's also chosen Andrew. Like you I've seen a lot of youngsters doing trans videos, so I really appreciate hearing your perspective as someone my age. Good luck to you, and best wishes.

Hi Andrew I’m a 46 year old Trans male and may of 2021 I started testosterone injections and now am 4 weeks post op. I kept my name…so so proud of you and I can totally relate to what you’ve been talking about at work. I wish you well🖤

So happy I found your video, Andrew. I'm 28 and FTM, recently came out at work and starting T this week. Some of the things you said really struck me. "Sometimes I get a lot of heartache about them calling me ma'am still" -- I definitely feel that. And, "I've always been the man to myself. Just not to everyone else." I'm very fortunate that my workplace has tried to accommodate. I work in the used car auction business and am very customer-facing. Transitioning as an established adult (I know 28 is still young but I do have a professional career) is hard, but rewarding. You're such a beautiful person and I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Andrew, thank you so much for sharing this! It’s so important to hear as the struggles of having a rooted social life is something that young people ( like myself) don’t have to experience in the same way. So excited for you. It’s really nice to have a male role model to look up to. Thanks again

Thank you so-much for sharing! I can relate to what you're going through. I didn't know that there was such a difference in transitioning later in life. I am 43 and have come out to a hand-full of individuals I trust. It never ends. I plan on getting testosterone soon. It takes so- much courage to do what you are doing. I hate it when I'm called "ma'am" as well. I never correct people that call me "sir." Keep your head up and continue inspiring everyone!

Hey Andrew, thanks for sharing . I appreciate your boldness and your honesty. Yes it is a lot harder when you’re older and you’re in a career as opposed to being a young person that is just starting out in life. Hang in there I am so very proud of you. Thank you for making this video and for sharing and caring about others.

You are a very brave person, Andrew! And I can relate to you totally! I'm ftm, pre-everything and 37, been working at the same place for years, so a lot of people know me, my coworkers are like a family, and today me and my girlfriend have a 6 year anniversary. :) Everybody knows me as a "that girl with blue hair", but I know I'm a guy and always have felt like that. I'm not out yet, and won't come 'til I actually start my transition. Probably won't be for quite a while 'cause- like you said- it's time consuming to tell every one you meet who you really are. Thank you for sharing your story! We need all kind of trans people to be visible!

Hi Andrew - I, too, have started transitioning later in life (at 58). I started Dec. 4th, 2019 with T shots and had top surgery in March 2020. I wanted to wait until my physical appearance changed before I started using the men's room or changing my name legally. However, I did come out to everyone I knew and asked them to use my preferred name and pronoun. At this point I am read as a man out in the world and virtually never get "ma'amed" anymore. Why gel rather than shots. Just curious... I wanted to comment on your other video about top surgery. Plastic surgeons ARE real surgeons. Plastic surgeons know the details that will not only remove the tissue you want, but they will give it the appearance you want. They have to know all those tiny vascular and nerve connections. So, yes, I had a plastic surgeon IN A HOSPITAL and am very happy with the results. It was life changing for me. I wish you all the best with your surgery!
@andrewaprentice4636
@andrewaprentice4636 2 года назад
I did gel and not shots because I can't do needles. I have a hard time getting my blood drawn. Doctors that do plastic surgery are real, but are specialized for that operation. Being older I feel safer in a hospital were there is doctors that specialize in hearts also. My mom had a triple bypass at 50. So to ease my anxiety I picked a hospital setting. I am glad to hear you have had your surgery and I wish you the best of luck on your journey.

I started T injections at 57 and it was slow going for me too. I think the slowness is from decades of being bombarded with estrogen. I deal with lots of people at work and slowly the ma'ams became sirs. At age 60 I rarely get called ma'am anymore. I never tried to correct anyone unless they asked. In the beginning I decided to just let it go until I 'evolved' further.

Can I ask how old some of you were when you started feeling gender dysphoria? I have a trans son who started feeling gender dysphoric at 14 years old and still does at 19 years old. I've seen some younger trans person saying people who feel GD at an older age arent really trans. So, just wondering if this is false. C
@andrewaprentice4636
@andrewaprentice4636 Год назад
I was about 3 when I was pretending to shave like my dad. I didn't feel any gender dysphoria until about 6,when I felt like I should be standing up to pee?. The older I got the more withdrawal from society I became because I knew I was a boy but was not treated as such. I am 52 and back when I was younger I really didn't know what gender dysphoria was. I always say to myself if I were to take everyone and all situations out of the equation, would I still want to be a boy. You have to transition for yourself. If everyone already seen you as a boy as with the world, could you come home and be okay with that or would you be unhappy still . I use reverse logic on myself, what if it was the opposite. Say for instance you were born a boy but had to keep that a secret and had to present yourself as a girl to the world, how would that feel? Because to me that would be okay. It's when you are alone and with your own self that it hurts. Sorry to go on and on, I hope that helps. Just remember we are all different and other might feel totally different, so get a lot different opinions on the topic. Best of luck on your journey

I m in sympathy, but I don’t understand why doing this so late? You have lived half your life. Why now.? I understand when young. But even then there is a danger feeling s might be a phase, I’ve heard of people who changed minds later. I do believe mind being in other sex body. But this dicey. For many reasons something have to really think about.

I don't really understand what you are saying. Yes, he's lived 1/2 his life, but he still has another 1/2! I transitioned later than this (at 58) and it's the best thing I've ever done. I wish information and the kind of resources that are available now were available when I was a younger person, but they weren't. So this is when it's finally an option and I've gone for it.

@Maryanne: Why does someone transition later in life after having lived 40, 50 years as the gender of their birthbody? Easy answer: Because you‘ve lived half (or even more) of your life feeling ‚wrong‘, looking ‚wrong’ and there comes a point in your life where you can’t take it anymore and don‘t want to continue being ‚wrong‘ anymore. You want to live the second half of your life ‚right’. You just finally want to be the person who you were supposed to be all along (looks and all). For people born before the 1990s it‘s been really hard coming out as trans let alone transitioning. Back in the day… well let‘s just say it‘s been vastly different times. Only in the past 10 years or so it‘s become easier (and I’m not calling it easy now by any means) and more accepted to transition - especially for ftm. I‘m 39 now and have only started social transition a year ago myself. I have felt ‚wrong‘ all my life since I can remember in early childhood, but back in the 80s or even 90s there was not much information on trans people apart from the odd documentary of transwomen on TV. There was no mention on transition being possible for females as well. There was no Internet available for everyone to get information like there is nowadays. If you talked to your family physician you were more likely to be admitted to a psychiatric ward than helped. Surgery hasn‘t been this specialized and available. It‘s only been in the past 10 years or so that society and medicine have been developed far enough to give transitioning a real value for those of us who aren‘t so young anymore.

@@andrewaprentice4636 sorry I know I’m replying to several comments, but I relate to your point about being picked on a lot so why would I want to make it harder for myself? It’s so true. As trans people, whether we even know were trans or not, we just want to survive because it’s hard enough feeling out of sorts already and not really understanding why as a child

You cannot go from female to male in minutes, overnights, or ever! I’m sorry you’re struggling this way, but you’re harming your older body quickly at this point, for trivial results. Be a proud lesbian, or be proud of your ordinarinesses, you are a special person and worthy of love without special attention from the public. Best of luck, Brenda 💕
