Ashton, I have a 23-yr-old son, and as a mother let me say that I'd much rather see him alive and happy transgendered than depressed and dysphoric living a life pretending to be something that he isn't. Not accepting you is her loss. I'm a Christian. I pray that you are okay, that the empty space that your mom has left gets filled by caring adult "moms" who love and accept you. You have one life to live, young man. You have incredible courage, and as a mom, it's the kind of courage I want my children to have. It depicts strength and character. Be blessed and live!!

I totally agree with your point. Coming around and seeing someone for who they are is hardest for parents. Definitely the case with mine, they've come around a lot more lately (and there's a difference between them accepting, taking it seriously, and supporting).

i am going to be honest with you, this video made me cry. cry tears of joy. your a true poet. the this you point out i only wish my friends or family would understand. when my mom found out that i started cross dressing she told me two my face i am wasting my time and theirs more important things to do. my dad died when i was 2, so my mom is all i have, besides my sister. and it toke a toll on me. years i was depressed putting a smile on my face. doing well in school and sports, but that only met my demise at the end of the day. your words spoke to me, they really did. i applaud you Ashton. xoxoxoxoxox

Be patient and loving. Parents are human beings too, and sometimes they have a bit too much to manage at the same time... So, give her time and affection. She will be very grateful.

So beautifully put! Thank you so much so sharing everything. Honest, genuine videos like this help educate what it's really like to be transgender. It hurts me to know so many people have to go through this..

I'm not a transgendered person. I'm female and straight. My Cousin is a Psychologist for gay and transgender people. Personally, I feel that we accept all persons. I love all regardless. I wanted to elaborate on your Mom's feelings. First, I know this vid is older and 2016 is around the corner. Okay...On to your Mom...(Short version) More information has come out about Transgenders in this generation. It wasn't really talked about back in the day. Plus, if a person wasn't around this issue and forgive me for lack of a better word, they wouldn't think it normal. Especially this. (To reiterate, I love all no matter who you are). Still, you have to understand that a major change is hard to take for some people. Now you wrote that she is coming around. Yet, even if she doesn't completely come around don't fault her. You came out of her body as a daughter that she bonded with immediately like good Moms do when they see their infants for the first time. And to lose a daughter, your sister, has a great deal with how she feels. At first, she probably thought she lost two daughters. Therefore, she didn't accept you at first. And if she is Christian, that also plays a huge part. As for me, I wish you well, blessings, and happiness, Ashton.

Despite the volume, thank you for sharing this. You mon and dad are separate persons dealing with this in each one's own way. Both videos are important to disseminate on social media. I will be posting both on my blog: transatlantictransadvocates.wordpress.com.

Dear Ashton, can you please try to improve the sound quality for capturing your voice on the films? Some of us are hard of hearing. Thanks much : )

Cyndi Mendell This video is several months old. I have since bought a new camera. My newest video, uploaded today, should be much better quality. I can't improve much on videos that are already uploaded. Sorry. :(

Have you been able to get therapy to deal with it. She needs to accept you as a person if nothing else.

Becky Goodman I have been going for several years, I'm doing well with it. She accepts me as a person but doesn't really speak to me at all. It's not that big of a deal as it used to be.

Has your Mom accepted things now and are you talking to her now, Ashton?

Hopefully therapy and with time things will get better. Were you close before?

She refuses to go to therapy. We were pretty close before. I've kind of moved on from trying to gain my mom's approval. I've just found she has her own issues that may never get resolved but I have my dad and sister to support me and many other people in my life. My grandparents support me, my uncles and aunts support me, my cousins do. Pretty much only my mom doesn't get it. :)
