We dive into replacing a sick barrel in a 2011 competition gun. In this first part I show the math behind measuring and fitting the barrel hood of a 1911 barrel as well as cutting the lower lugs with the Brownells lug cutting kit.
In the second part we get into the upper lugs and fitting the muzzle of this bull barrel. Stay tuned for future project episodes!

Thanks. This is the first video that went through the calculations in detail, specifically the amount to take off the "right" part of the hood. Most videos just calculate the amount you remove from the first side of the hood and don't explain the second step

Also my barrel hood came in perfect had to file down the feet for me to get the slide pin in but now it doesn’t drop down enough to rack the slide, what is missing? I know it’s hard to tell without seeing but hoping you may have an answer for me…

Could be contacting the back face of the barrel feet on the frame before the link can swing all the way out. Might dykem the back of the barrel feet and see if its hitting.

How come you don't have a video for cutting the lower foot with the cutter? When do you stop cutting, when the safety engages or when the back of the slide is even with the frame? If you cut until the safety engages how do you match the slide to the frame as it sticks out the back?
