Geoff is just like you. He thought he was safe…until he wasn’t. Watch his spine-crawling recount of his potentially fatal encounter with one of our most deadly arachnids right in his own backyard.
very incompetent nurse. Sydney Funnels NEVER perform dry bites. The dude is lucky because he handled it correctly and , above all, it was likely a female which has a less lethal/potent venom than a male. In fact, contrary to the vast majority of other spiders, the life threatening venom belongs to the male.
@@erikcruzchavez766 Administrating anti-venom is not free and can cause serious side-effects. Doing proper medical assessment before administrating is common practice.. But of course youtube is full of professional doctors..
And CGI of the bite and the venom flowing thru his veins. Then they cut to commercial, come back and show the exact same footage a second time before getting to the same part where the woman stepped in this video...but cut to commercial come back and replay all the same footage a 3rd time, before the brief happy ending.
In Australia, they make fun of Americans. In America, we don't even bother with Australia because #1 you guys can't even afford to make a movie with CGI and that's actually the cheap way to do it, #2 just one of our major cities probably equals the population of your entire continent, #3 your military is a joke, #4 you guys have guns because you gave them up for the illusion of safety on a continent where absolutely everything is trying to kill you, #5 most if not all of the big name celebrities that have come out of Australia all ended up living in America. I mean you guys really don't have much to talk about, and that's why you have to make fun of America, because there's nothing else to do. Funny thing is, most if not all of you would hop a plane and fly here if the opportunity arose, and don't say you wouldn't either. The population of Australia is only about 19 million, and only about half of those are women, so about 9.5 million women in Australia, and of those women, only a fraction of them are actually attractive. So you're looking at what, less than 1 million women on your entire continent might be considered hot, if that? Yeah, there's a number of reasons Chris Hemsworth and Mel Gibson left Australia.
Haha I’ve been to Sydney heaps of times because I have family there (I live in Perth) and I’ve only seen two of the fuckers. They’re pussies as well as soon as I looked at it the thing fucked of
I hate to tell you…They are common in households as well…Inside shows, And boxes, Even can be in cupboards…Double check where your reaching for stuff…Cause they are good at hiding
the ending of the video was more scary than the spider story. was that lady just waiting outside the camera, waiting to pounce with all her kits? im suspicious of her intentions
Thanks for this first hand account, Geoff. I've lived all my life in Sydney without ever coming across a funnel web, then yesterday my dog bailed one up in the kitchen near the back door, so I'm on a bit of a fact-finding mission. Sounds like you handled it all beautifully, Great to see you survived the ordeal. Fortunately none of us were bitten. I have what I now realise to be a male funnel web in a container with some moist soil to keep him happy (and no, they certainly can't jump, so he was relatively easy to catch with the container and piece of stiff paper method). He was so busy rearing up ready to attack that he stayed pretty stationery. They are the most aggressive spider I have ever seen. Despite being so concerned for my two dogs, I have now realised that I was in way more danger from the funnel web than my pets. They are primarily dangerous to primates. He was just inside the back sliding door to the porch, where all our shoes are sitting. I can hear my mother's voice echoing to always shake out your shoes or gardening gloves before putting them on, but there have certainly been times, especially over the last few, rain-soaked weeks, where I have walked out the back door and just quickly slipped on my shoes without checking! So I could relate to your casual, "just quickly slip on the thongs" account :) I'm taking Fred, who still seems to be doing well in his container with breathing holes poked in the top and damp soil to keep him hydrated, up to the Reptile Park today, in the hopes he can be part of the anti-venom program.
I was bitten by a brown violin spider, which is a relative of the feared brown recluse in North America. There were no symptoms for a full day, till my leg got very sore. It took days for the pain - which only was evident when I first started walking in the morning after waking up - to gradually go away. Brown recluse bites are notorious for necrotizing and enlarging and not healing for weeks or months, which is the spider's digestive chemicals, and there's no way to stop that. I was very worried about that possibility, but fortunately it never happened. Regardless, I remain uneasy about spider bites! So why am I watching THIS horror story?
That survival lady came in at the worst time possible with the worst tone and worst transition I’ve ever seen. It’s so bad you couldn’t do it even if you try... 🤣
For everyone else - DO NOT attempt to catch a spider or snake after your bitten. Get a pressure bandage on that sh*t and go to the hospital. They can test the bite there
In the funnel web's case, it's actually in your best interest to bring the specimen with you due to how many of them are needed just to produce a single dose of antivenom. Let alone the fact that it's one of the few spiders on earth that actually _needs_ an antivenom in the first place.
@@generalbutterscotch4887 i doubt they will use that spider to produce anti venom. The first thing to do is to use ice on that area and even on the whole body part, a lot of ice and also to bandage that body part immediately
I honestly couldn't live in a country where spiders or snakes or grizzlies could kill me, not that it's safer in certain US states at the moment. I remember washing my hands in a stream in southern India and suddenly noticed a huge Cobra opposite me just looking and thought no way!
“...I said the kit didn’t work. Then the people that make the Snake Bite kits put a gun to my head and said -“ “OKAYYY THANKS FOR THE FUN STORY TIME TO GO NOW!”
@@keelyleilani1326 I'm an Aussie who lives in the US and never once in my life met an American who uses the word thongs to refer to flip flops, most have no idea that Aussies call them thongs.
I had no idea that a funnel web could give a dry bite. Every pet one I had would have venom dripping from their fangs. I know a guy who had a dry inland taipan bite and the clueless police interviewed him before allowing him into the ambulance.
I wanted to hear this survivor’s account of the spider bite, and the medical complications that affect the victim. Instead, I had to mentally block out that hip hop noise in the background. That’s when I gave up, and moved on to another video.
These are so frightening. It’s insane bc here in British Columbia, Canada we have black widows who are not in the slightest bit aggressive, will only bite as a last resort, the vast majority of the time will not cause significant permanent injury (besides pain and feeling sick) & certainly won’t kill most people, yet people never shut up about how dangerous they are. This is nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to a FW spider’s bite
a dry bite? now i’m no funnel web expert but every time i see one rear up in their threat display stance, i always notice venom dripping from their fangs, smh so i don’t know what that doctor was talking about smh lol
3:14 this part is so interesting compared what happened with Corona. They told the entire world how it feels to have it and all of a sudden everyone started to imagine having it over a sneeze. So interesting how its standard emergency procedure to NOT tell people about symptoms in this situation. It really says a lot of how easily manipulated the human mind is.
you are supposed to tie your leg upwards from the bite to restrict the blood flow so the venom does not circulate further to your body. Tying up your foot does not do much for you.
I think I'm gonna pass on an Australia vacation. Between the salties, Great Whites, Brown snakes ,,Huntsmans , redbacks . I think I'll take my chances in the sunshine state !!!!
@@despawningenemy420 yeah i was just comparing them to other larger animals that can kill their prey quickly like the lion its amazing that such a small animal can do so much damage!!
It is better if they can avoid anti venom, they only use it if it's absolutely necessarily death threatening because anti venom has its own disadvantages too. Research about it
Oy.... I though I would be a real dumb ass today and walk around with no foot protection where Funnelwebs roam, and Oy Vey, to my stupid surprise, I saw a Sydney Funnelweb on my foot. I felt real intelligent at this point.
Talking of dry bites bloody Eastern Brown dry bit me on my left calf muscle nurse at the hospital said I was a lucky boy that was in 1986 didn't really feel much just a bump on my leg it was me mate walking behind me that saw him strike at me.
