Noise from my 02 fazer before any work is done on her, shes booked in for a new cam chain, valve clearances checked and carbs balanced. Comments welcome. Check out foc-u.co.uk/ .
no worries mines just gone to mechanic to be fixed thought it was the cam chain but your vid deffo help me tell what the problem was thanks for putting on here.
@danielbrimelow Glad it is of help.. i have heard of a few people that have had the same problem.. reason remains unknown... if the chain was stretched beyond the reach of the cam chain adjuster maybe it would make more sence but when mine was done the tensioner was only half way out. Anyway its well worth it and it will run brill when its done!. Good luck.
@danielbrimelow Sorry for the late reply Dan, the problem was the cam chain.. i guess it had stretched in some manner but not sure why or how.. i bought it with 7000 miles on it and knew the history of it.. but replacing the cam chain has fixed it.
@ajls2don't know atm what mine maybe i've only had mine about 1 month had 45k on it so most likely needs new cam chain but meh. what mpg you get before and after mines doing about 40mpg.
Hi ajls2, I have a 2000 Fazer and the cam chain is making a very similar noise. Bike needs the valve clearances checked so I was thinking of replacing the cam chain then. Was your replacement a Yamaha or aftermarket chain? Do you still have the bike and if so how did the new cam chain perform since then? Is it still quiet and smooth? Thanks, Ed
Hi Ed, The chain was an aftermarket replacement with a soft link ( saved splitting the engine ). I didn't have any further noises the remainder of the time I owned the bike. I did sell it to a local person and still do see it about so I guess it's still running strong. Thanks.
Hi Phil.. it cost £300 if my memorys correct. You can go for the full engine split which is the proper way to do it or you now get cam chains with a soft link which is what i opted for. Still a fair amount of work involved either way.
