The “fake crown” houses the dedicated Bluetooth sync button, which makes it quick and easy to establish connection to your smart phone. I am not bothered at all by it.
I picked this up at the G Shock store in Singapore last year. I find it to be a comfortable watch that I wear knocking around. I’m glad I bought it. The crown does have function. Hold the button down to pair Bluetooth to phone. App will automatically change time when traveling - when synced via button and app
About the “crown”: What everybody fails to mention is that the “crown button” not only serves as a Bluetooth connection button, when pressed for a couple of seconds, but it als serves as a quick time check. You push the button shortly, the watch checks the time with your phone and automatically corrects it. That way, it serves exactly the same purpose as a real crown would do: to set the time. I am absolutely fine with it.
I’ve been wearing the heck out of this one. Rugged and a little dressy even. I just wish it had a bit of lume at the 12 o’clock position to orient it in the dark because the lumed hands are pretty good. But of course you can always use the light button. This one is an amazing value.
Thanks for the review, very nice!! I bought this about 6 months ago and totally love it! It is pretty much my go to watch (toss up between this and my Bulova Sea King chrono), very easy to read and lite weight. I don't mind the fake crown too much, I guess the thing I like most about it is that it protects the sync pusher. The back light is like a small flashlight, never have to worry about reading the time in the dark for sure. It's nice that it automatically updates the time from the app 4 times a day if your phone is within range. Seems like about 10' is pushing the limit on blue tooth connectivity though. Thanks again for the review, always look forward to what you have to review next. Oh I see they have a Japanese version (GST-B200B-1AJF) in black, little more money but looks sharp!!
I have two of the G Steel series including this model. I really really love it and use it a lot! The only drawback is that the glass isn’t recessed almost a all, which makes it somewhat more “scratchable”.
Have you found any strap adapters that work with this model ? i want to ditch the resin strap and move to something more comfortable, but cant find anything online!
The fake crown has a purpose. You push the inner button to connect Bluetooth. And I prefer the look than the real crown as the real crowns are soo not practical like the gwg-1000 mudmaster where you have to screw and unscrew just to make changes to the watch. All new watches should now be like this one which is very practical.
Bought this recently on Ebay. Didn't know about your channel here offering 20% discount code. Was priced at abt $280 or $285, while on Amazon was $300 or $299 or something like that. I went w/ Ebay because it was less expensive. HOWEVER, for some reason they added almost $30 worth of tax, so final price w/ free shipping was abt $307. Come to find out that if I had bought it off Amazon, would've been abt $307 as well w/ tax. So, beware of places advertising lower prices, as in my case it came out to exactly the same. I just hope it works...I receive it today sometime.
The fake crown I think the purpose of it is to cover the Bluetooth button so that when you bend your hand you don't accidentally push it every time you move.
That red MTG continues to be a heartbreaking distraction in your videos of lesser machines. #firstworldproblems :) There's just something about that deep shade of red with how it contrasts with the dark metal. Love it. As for the watch featured here, for me it would have to have a date with the Dremel tool first. G Shocks often have _overt ostentation_ as part of their design spec, but a fake crown is a bridge too far for this fan. Can I get an amen?
Bought this watch I think its great my first Bluetooth watch I have no problem with the crown, I would if i wore it on the lower wrist like most youtubers😬
I'm seriously considering getting one of these soon but could someone please tell me the difference between the - gst b200 1ajf and the gst b200 1aer - models as I can't seem to find out what it is and why they have a different model codes.....
Nice looking G Shock, I have the g-shock gwr-b1000-1a bought from an AD with a discount from some reviewer whom I forgot, Cost me $660 and came with the warranty card and the regular price was $800.00 . Can use the Casio app to set the watch, set the time from the atomic clock from my phone, or leave it on the windowsill to update the time, a large watch which is light as a feather. Oddly earlier so saw a review and almost bought (changed my mind, don't need another g-shock) GW-B5600BC-1JF which is a non metal version of the 5000's which would have cost me around $165 with expedited shipping ($3 more than the regular shipping) from the Amazon UK store, and some credit I had from the Amazon CC. I guess I could have got the US model but prefer the positive lcd over the opposite which I have a little trouble seeing. While I won't have a warranty from Casio, I do have it through Amazon. The b1000 has all and more of the features of the 5600 and figured I'd pass. Though it did have a nice band with links. Nice review Rob. Thanks.
Nice review as you always do. I very much like this watch although it has me confused. I thought GST was G shock STeel, more premium standard watch under the mtg line. Now this gstb200 is more a carbon core watch, I wonder how far does it still represent G-STeel? Because its smaller than mine I am considering to swap, however Im fond of the (black)light on my gstw130c.
@@thetruthonlyone Are you talking about the crown in the middle on the side? If you are. I think you're mistaken. He addressed the fake crown having no functionality in the video.
Was gonna pull the trigger on this watch, until I washed this video - the phoney crown killed it for me. EDIT: Another comment below mentioned it is a connect button.
I’m selling mine on eBay. Couldn’t deal with the giant crown thy doesn’t operate the hands. If you want a cool look, put some dw6900 straps on it, it looks way better than the stock strap.
I have this exact model. I had kept it in the dark for a few days and the charge went down completely. Now despite keeping it in the sun for hours, the watch is not working and I only get a message on the digital screen reading Charge. I don't know how to make it work. Anyone with a similar problem??
Not a fan of this one but the Carbon Core theme can be seen in some nice models that Casio have produced in the G-Shock range. For me, the MTG wins over this one.
My GWR-B1000-1A1JF has a carbon core. They aren't cheap but wears well and it's real lite. Nice features, have the app on my Note 10 + and have it on my iphone 10 max, while never used it on my iphone, it does connect to it. I know it's not cheap but I do wear it fairly often.
I'd reccomend checking previous videos he has done. From memory he has done at least 3 on protrek recently that may help. Great watches. Good luck in the search.
I know you guys love your G-Shock’s. But I’m not going to war, I’m not going diving, and I hope my arm doesn’t get run over by a truck with my watch on.Then again I have plenty a dive watches that’s never been in the water. LOL have fun guys I’m out
Does the second hand *perfectly* align with the dial markers? if yes, then that tells me something about quality control. If no, then it's a no go for me.
Prices on these have dropped if you want a gshock wait 1 year and you’ll be able to score well under retail not a fan of the faux crown or faux anything at all on a watch bezels shoot I’ve even seen fake pushers like what’s the point? 🤣
