@@xyrzmxyzptlk1186 I think it’s the two sides of the analytics coin. Theoretically you’ll have people who listen to the entire section who might listen to less with timestamps. The opposite is definitely true were people who would never listen to the whole thing will certainly find their favorite segments.
There were a lot of red flags in Hellena's videos that went over people's head 1- The Bayonetta series did not make $450M excluding merchandising. Heck, it probably didn't make that money even with merchandising because the series is extremely niche and it would have died after the first game if it wasn't for Nintendo. 2- She weaponized a fanbase by claiming that "if you cared about other people" you should boycott the game and an even a possible spin-off. Platinum's employees need contract work like Bayonetta to stay afloat, that company has 303 employees and their latest game, Babylon's Fall, flopped. 3- Mentioned the new voice actress as the "new girl" and said she could not call herself Bayonetta or sign merchandise as if Hellena was the owner of the character. 4- Claimed she was offered 4k to voice the whole game as if Platinum didn't just replace her with another union voice actress that is more experienced than her. If Platinum wanted to "cheapen" the VA cost, then why would they hire a more expensive voice actress? All of those details made me skeptical of believing Hellena's claims and I can't say I'm surprised after reading Jason's Schreier report. Hellena lied and people should feel ashamed for going after the new Bayonetta voice actress and Hideki Kamiya.
Also the OG Bayonetta VA is the Japanese one, meaning that the English one has a dub role which is kinda different from being the original voice chosen by the developers to model the character around. It's also dubious that she was offered that sum to begin with. Her actions seems just vindictive and she has no qualms in burning bridges because she is not even a full committed voice actress (she does theatre), so she has nothing to lose in that field. However she has broken several nda, so Nintendo may willing to sue her at this point.
About #1, as a rule of thumbs, consider a sold copy to bring back $10 (out of $60) to the devs, after other people get their shares. In order to match Taylor's number, the entire Bayonetta series, *including every single port, version and digital download*, would need to sell 45 million units at least. I don't think it's currently even close to half that number :S
This. After reading the initial report and not even watching the video, it seemed to me that she was throwing a tantrum. Once I watched the videos I confirmed it. You don't start a movement for better wages for VAs by saying the company that has employed you before has allegedly made x amount and then proceed to highlight your education and state you deserve more. It was about her and her only, it wasn't about making a change, it was about her making more money. And finally she tried to take it on the new actress as if she was somehow responsible for platinum offering her the job. It was fucked up the way she went about it
They pretty much shot themselves on the foot, its highly possible that they were going fail anyways, it just would have been a slow bleed to the bottom in which case they might have saved millions because of the rant but who knows.
all i remember about G4 the 1st time around was it being like 18 hours of Cheaters episode repeats, 1 hour of AOTS and Xplay and the rest being Unbeatable Banzuke and Sasuke for like the last 2 months before it went off cable
Apart from what we know now about this - $400 an hour for any job is incredibly good. I think what people are 'trying' to say is that maybe voice actors, being the heart of characters, should also get royalties on sales. Paying someone millions for hours of work on an unreleased product is just kind of stupid from a business sense. Paying someone royalties though as equity in a product's success can be done when they have a significant place in making the project a reality.
Exactly. I've heard many try to compare them to Hollywood actors which is silly. Actors have to get in shape or gain weight get specialty training for the role and spend months filming. So comparing that with someone sitting in a box for 16 hours is ridiculous

I don't know how you guys can talk about the G4 issue while dancing around the issue of Frosk's rant. I agree it was probably ultimately doomed regardless, but that rant significantly sped up the process. Ignoring Frosk's rant & how divisive it was is just another clear indicator of how politically biased you guys are.
I liked the old G4. They had a cartoon called Code Monkeys that I loved watching. If anyone sees this and knows of a streaming service that has this cartoon let me know lol.
Supposedly she was offered $4K to be a cameo after she turned down 5 sessions of $3-4K. At least 15K for 20 hours of work. According to other VAs in the industry, that is extremely generous. I don't think she was paid $4K for Bayonetta 2, so I think it's obvious she lied to try and steer the direction of the conversation.
Pats 100% correct -- the game industry is NOT worse than any other industry, in fact its still probably better -- I have personally worked in many industries that wouldn't have hired women, or gay or trans workers to begin with. Or that wouldn't hit national news when they lay people off, or call people names in meetings, or have sexual harassment accusations. So I think like he said - we hold our hobby up higher, we for some reason think it should be more fun to work in games because games are fun (surprise its work!), we have a lot of specific coverage on games (there isn't like as many trucking and shipping and manufacture websites or youtube channels devoted to covering these topics like we do in games and movies) - i also think there is a bit of a prejudice like - yeah i work at a warehouse so people hit each other in the nuts and swear because warehouse - but for some reason the guy in the mail room at a game studio wont do that or its less acceptable? But yeah - this happens EVERYWHERE, and i think its just got more diverse people and more diverse coverage so we hear about it - where you dont in other jobs unless it hits some huge level. -- Like would you have heard about this Rooster Teeth stuff if it was a Nike employee? nah.
When I was into EVO tournaments I remember watching G4's stream coverage of SF4 finals with Adam Sessler's commentary. He provided unintentional comedy gold with being late on picking up obvious things when he doesn't actually play the game, and even misunderstanding the match structure and miscounting wins because of it.
Glad the Bayonetta 3 section got a disclaimer, the more details that come out really make it look like the previous voice actress was severely overstating not only the amount the series has made along with the amount she was offered. I believe it would come up to her making something like $250 an hour and it would have been 4 session adding up to around $1500 total. She's also rather open with her current financial issues making it seem kind of suspect. Also wanted to mention that Dragon Ball Advance on GBA is excellent. Got my copy for something like $10 about ten years ago and played through it multiple times. Really hope Ian eventually gets a reasonably priced copy.
I used to watch zdtv, which became techtv, but when it became g4, I began to tune out. It wasn’t entertaining or informative to me very quickly. I liked Adam sealer from the pre g4 days, and Kevin pereira from the early parts, but it quickly went silly and dumb, particularly after munn came into play. That’s when the channel went into the pits for me. Long live Leo Laporte!!!!
Same here, I think I aged out though. I loved ZDTV as a teen, it was relaxing, focused on tech, and got me into computers, Screen Savers was my favorite show. By the time it became G4, I was 21 and aged out of the Olivia Munn tease stuff. It was definitely geared towards teenage boys more. I stopped watching.
the G4tv revival was a failure from the start. Most of us didn't ask for it. It was riding on the nostalgia and nothing more. We have moved on since they went off the air the first time in the late 2000's/early 2010's. Better Gaming content is being created on RU-vid from your average Joe or Jane from next door with less money than what these corporate cronies had. It just had that fake manufactured vibe to it. So yea, Good riddance to G4TV...Again! Sorry to the folks who lost their jobs(except Sessler and Frosk, they can kiss my ass).
I never understood G4. I don't just mean I didn't care for it I didn't even understand it. I guess the novelty of seeing somebody talk about video games on TV was enough to carry in the 2000s.
When did G4 go back to being boob-centric? I would have watched that. I watched the current G4 on RU-vid, and it wasn't terrible, but it didn't have the magic. Really only cared about Xplay and I really missed Morgan Webb. Her interactions with Adam Sessler is what made that show. I didn't even know AOTS was a thing. It wasn't on the G4 RU-vid. Maybe that was network only.

The fact that Sculptor’s Cut is $1,200 is insane. I felt like one of the few people that enjoyed playing it as a kid so I wonder if it’s more of a “completionist” thing or the people that own these copies actually enjoy the game itself.
I spent years thinking I didn’t need Sculptors Cut (for $100-200, of course) because all I really cared about was the theme song and I remember enjoying the OG version more as a kid… only to find out during Covid that the theme song is only in Sculptors cut.
I was wondering if that G4 rant was a planned last minute thing to get attention. Because weren't they already struggling before that? I feel like it was bad idea from jump and maybe they thought a little new age controversy might spark renewed interest by a younger generation?
The Frosk clown said it was, they even prerecorded applase and crowd noise to dub in after. But some of her colleagues had no idea, they knew that was the end right after.
Frosk managed to hurt the business while bringing down the women that pioneered game focused tv shows. God damn it was impressively awful. G4 was in trouble either way but this was a sure way to hinder the support for the fan base that tuned in based on nostalgia alone.
I love Pat & Ian and would continue listen to the free podcasts, but it's extremely peculiar to cover G4's layoffs and eventual shutdown and have zero mention of Indiana Black and how the "sxism in gaming" rant was the catalyst. Like, why even bother mentioning it at all?

From this point on, it no longer gained subs, but lost them. After this they averaged like 13k a day on the channel if I remember correctly. To just ignore this is pretty ingenious. Every channel on RU-vid has brought this up that has discussed G4... But this one.
@@cabaldwin3 And thats the big problem, no one wants to talk about it because they are scared of the backlash, but when people don't know the full story or the actual reason why it failed, they will just repeat it again and again with other reboots, and when those reboots fail, they will brush the real reason under the rug and no one will know why, and it just repeats. People need to talk about the actual reasons, and then they can avoid the actual reasons for reboots failing, and then they will have a successful business.

I was happy when G4 said they're coming back but I've been following them and some of the hosts on twitter and I've never seen content posted from any of them. Like post a video or even a link to a video and remind me you exist and I'll watch it.
imo the biggest issue with the revival of G4tv was the programming, that and a lack of marketing the channel. Only reason I knew it was an actual TV channel is because I went out of my way to look up the information to find it. Also, they should've hired me, I would've pitched revivals of ICONS and The Whip Set at least, oh and they couldn't even bothered to show Code Monkey reruns, but will show marathons of Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banzuki.
It's so wrong the way Jirard, Xavier and everybody at G4 got let go without being told first before hearing it on social media. I hope I get out to PRGE one day!

She didn't just want $100,000 for it, she also wanted to get royalties on every copy sold. I don't blame PlatinumGames for declining. And now she looks really bad for wanting fans to boycott the game because of her greed
Greetings from Oregon. I was glad to see all of you again and pick up a copy of the second "Certain guidebook." I was happily surprised to find that it had been pre-signed so thank you for that. Managed to pick up a copy of Contra that I had been looking for some time then found it at a different dealer for a little cheaper with a manual. Happy to finally get a copy.
Regarding handhelds, lots of cheap games to be had. I went back to them myself in the last year or two. I'm old, want something to pick up and play, so those fit the bill.

G4 had a lot of problems aside from just their content. I for one will never support anything Adam Sessler ever does. I used to be a fan of his from the original G4 to Rev3 games but then he showed what kind of person he is with his disgusting rants. I didn’t really care about the Frosk stuff. To me it seemed like they were just trying to get some attention and it backfired.

I want to get back into getting my PS2 library back. Plus I've been itching to play some Area 51 and Psi-Ops, it's been probably 12 years since I've played these titles.
G4 came back and within a week Frosk one of the hosts made a horrible rant and seemed sexist and attacked the fans. She ended with if you dont like it dont watch. So the viewers said ok we wont. They went woke and literally went broke. Everyone mass downvoted the videos and unsubbed. She ruined their relaunch. Then about a month or so ago she bragged on twitter like she does that she was still there after most of her colleagues got fired/laid off. She was fired right after. Way before this when she was a host/commentator of league of legends e sports. She had drama during that as well where her career there ended. Soooo ya. Go woke go broke I guess.
I feel like Taylor asked for too much, misunderstood the offer given to her, and they parted ways. But she seems really salty about the new voice actor. And suddenly after hearing her views on other people, I can enjoy Bayonetta 3 without it seeming weird that she isn't in the new game.
Comcast is so invested in their Peacock app, it seems to me that they could have benefitted by moving G4 content to the app. Maybe not have the cable channel, but still keep it running on the online and streaming platforms.
If stuff like X-Play and AOTS is considered "Old" or "Classic" G4, then what do you call the pre-TechTV acquisition era of G4 with stuff like Pulse, Filter, Icons, etc. ..."Ancient" G4? It's imo the only really good era of G4 and pretty much no one seems to remember it.
Right now is interesting not just for games but a lot of collectible markets i just sold some nes and gameboy stuff like a month ago for like 150 dollars like 20 games nothin super rare i have a lot of game related stuff but i also have a large movie collection as well as vinyl and old board games the prices are definitely going down which is great for me bc believe it or not im only 22 and a huge physical media person and there are many my age that are most aren't but thats why people who say physical media is gonna die are a little premature just like with anything when some just like making declarations to change prices like you guys have talked about i definitely think in next five years it will be interesting and there will be a little more of a balancing out of prices for several consoles theres always a console thats the hottest at the moment but its a cycle i think 20 years from now could be nes again wouldn't suprise me..
You would think that in this day and age where you can't fart without the whole world hearing about it that companies would treat their staff with human decency. You can't hide things in this day and age when it comes to that stuff that is a fantastic thing.

Comcast's push into video games/e-sports always seemed to be not well thought out even before the G4 relaunch. A 50 million dollar e-sports arena in Philly for Overwatch League...okay..... Sucks people lost their jobs a few months before the holiday season. :v
Sucks about G4 tv got shut down. I guess the online show wasn't that popular. I only liked x play. But way it is. Also to many gaming channels like AVGN on RU-vid is what caused G4tv to shut down and to many other gaming sites.

Did you guys hear that the Beyoneta Voice actor wasn't being honest about the pay because apparently she was actually offered $4000 for ever 4 hour shift so that's actually $1000 an hour and she was also offered multiple shifts
I really like G4 when it was new in the early 2000’s before it merged with tech tv. Once it did and attack of the show became the main program on it I stopped watching. When G4 came back it kept the attack of the show style and that kept me away. It’s a shame there was potential for good programming but they squandered it.
Another Castle Was awesome. I bought 30 or so Commodore and PC games from them in two big lots for probably 40% of retail. They were motivated to sell for sure
For me set collecting never made any sense. I know Patrizio is proud of his full NA NES library (as he should be) and Australia’s own Joel Hopkins has the ultra ambitious aim of owning every game for every system and he has an unbelievable collection (one so big he had to build another floor to his house. I’m not saying achieving that goal is bullshit, I’m always impressed when other collectors achieve their goal and are able to display it impressively, I’m just saying that it’s never been something i aspired towards, even as a kid. The only games I’ve wanted to own are good games, games that have aesthetic value, are fun to play or at least are noteworthy in some respect. That is why even if i was a multi billionaire and could drop a million bucks on something frivolous and not think twice i still wouldn’t want to buy bad games and have them taking space in my home. the fact that some bad games are rare and in demand from collectors looking to complete a set is great for me if i buy a bundle of games and there’s a rarebbish game or two that i can sell off for good money to make the game/s in the bundle that i really wanted cheaper then you better believe in gonna cash in on that. I do enjoy collecting particular series. One that i enjoy and have been consistently good like Pokémon (have had all the mainline games (including remakes) since 2016), Mario, Zelda, Smash bros, and many JRPG series. When I’m finally able to get my treasures up onto shelves i want it all to reflect good taste and the games that mean the most to me up there. I wanna be able to look at them and reflect on how i got those games and consoles and the journey i went on while acquiring them
