Wow! Regardless of what happens down the season, it's incredible that Gabby has competed again after 7+ years! Especially knowing that she's going to be compared to her Olympic best. I can't imagine the immense pressure, nerves and more that she must have been feeling. The fact she was able to get through today was amazing! I hope she sticks with it past this year if she's enjoying it! And yes, while a few weeks until next competition isn't much time, a few weeks can certainly help as far as getting used to using competitive landing surfaces. Hopefully today helped her mentally too, knowing she has the 1st competition back out of the way.
She had to pull hard on that dismount. This meet was not her best, but that dismount shows that she has a lot of fight in her. She just needs a lot more numbers.
She had the 2nd highest vault score of the meet only behind Jade and qualified for 3 events at Championships with her scores. Comparing her to the girls at WinterCup she’s looking good- but definitely needs way more work! Suni is also doing a dbl pike and still hasn’t attempted it yet in competition so I’m glad Gabby did and pulled it off!
@@antzvoli4577 her vault was amazing. I would not be surprised if she does a cheng or amanar at nationals. It would be amazing and a testament to her athleticism to see her do one of the hardest vaults after an 8 year hiatus. Gabby did not look happy at this meet, but I'm hoping she uses her disappointment as fuel to do her best in the upcoming, more important meets!
Honestly, it’s hard to read Gabby’s face at any meets. Her performance is okay for an 8 year hiatus. I’m rooting for her to work hard for the next meet in May!
Wow… Gabby Douglas is amazing. Yes, she was a little nervous after 7+ years not in a competition. But she did it and she will be great in the next one in the next one and going to Paris
@@leykimayri Do you have a life? You are obsessed with talking trash on every nice comment about Gabby in every video. You loooove her! Stop being so obsessed stalker!
Gabby Douglas was just a little nervous Today on her return to Gymnastic. This event is merely a good warm up for Gabby Douglas. She'll be just fine at her next competition in May of 2024.
I dont see her making good score on beam, but i think her vault and bars will improve a lot. She need to get 14.8 plus on bar consistently to make her case. Which i think she really capable. She dont have enough stamina in this meet. Her bar and vault combination is her best chance.
I think her strongest event is bars. She really did good DTY vault and her bars, eventough not ready yet, we can see that see plan to do 6.4. I think she capable getting 8.4+ in execution. With huge execution( she just dont have that much stamina in this meet).
Agreed on the 2 months concern, especially with there being 3 meets (5 days of competition if you go to Trials) jammed in, plus the pressure and need to add several points to her AA score. Vault and beam seem to come back quickest to most elites.
@@turbojon8117In order to meet the high standards of reliability and consistency, it's imperative that she not only avoids falling in the upcoming three meets, but also delivers exceptional performances in at least two events. Keep in mind that this team is striving to attain the ultimate goal of winning the team gold, and average performances won't make the cut.
@@JB-sg1vy I was referring to Laurie,Chelsie, etc, people who took a lot of time off and came back. Who do you know who took a decade off and came back better than this?
@@zb6070She won’t be able to petition for 4 AA in Nationals if she doesn’t qualify at US Classics. Failing to qualify AA in American and US Classics means you won’t be able to do AA in Nationals and can’t petition either.
@@HazelAmarie Well yeah if she hadn’t fallen on floor maybe she would have qualified. On bars she didn’t have the endurance, there is no way she would have finished a full bars routine she simply couldn’t. She should had gone with an easy bars, like 4.000 D-score, and with an 8.000 Execution she would have qualified at nationals giving her more time to prepare. Now she must get 51.000 points in US classics otherwise she can’t compete AA on nationals which means she won’t be able to go on trials. So now she has even more stress, lol, and only two weeks left.
@@justacellist3989 First if all Gabby has never been a world champion individually. And secondly what I said, Simone was crowd multiple times world championships last year and she’s a year younger
@@leykimayri She's never been a world champion individually, but she IS a world champion. And more importantly, OLYMPIC ALL AROUND CHAMPION. At the age of 16. We know Simone is the GOAT. That doesn't mean Gabby isn't absolutely amazing.
@@justacellist3989 Again, the main comment was to emphasise her age. Simone became multiple times a world champion at the age of 26, a year younger than Gabby.
almost shed a tear watching this!! this brings me back to cheering for her at the 2012 olympics. hearing of her starting training again and watching simone biles' journey has been so inspirational. wishing gabby nothing but the best
She's close to being really, really good on vault, bars, and beam. Floor is kinda a disaster, but with Simone and Jade, Team USA doesn't really need another top tier floor score. Shilese's floor is serviceable.
She's nowhere near what you said based in this meet. The problem is now she needs to have excellent performances in three meets in a row with zero falls to prove readiness.
@@HazelAmarie Better than at Winter Cup where she fell all over the place. Her beam looked good and as I have been saying a while now, she needs only to put up great scores on bars and beam, have a decent DTY and produce mid 13 score on floor, all of which she is very capable of, and she is set. Suni at her best is only second to Simone. Whether she can get back to that level is what we will have to wait to see. Same with Gabby.
@@aliciamcdonald7105 Shilese will definitely beat Suni so 2nd to Simone is a stretch. Yes Suni did very well this competition but keep in mind she presented an FTY and that dismount off beam isn’t giving anything right now. Who’s to say how Gabby will look by core classics? As she’s proven in the past she can hit when it really matters .. she just needs to channel that in and add more repetition. If anything Gabby can be a top contender in the AA .. No one knows what Suni’s AA program is looking like because she’s yet to actually compete in the AA since Tokyo.
I expect her to get a lot better but based on her performance she has a long way to go, especially because of the competition in the US right now. Good luck to her nonetheless !!
Unfortunately she wasnt able to get 51,000 to qualify all-around for US Championships. But 13.350 on beam gives her a 50.65 in the all-around, but is good enough for a two event qualification to nationals. (Scott Bregman on Twitter)
After 8 years away, to miss the nationals AA score by .35 with some errors and nerves...I am definitely impressed! Gabby's a fighter and known for improving tons in short periods.
@@MariahCoco She did get her qualifying score on 3 events. If she doesn't petition to do the AA, she can still get her AA qualifying score at US Classic.
I’m new to watching gymnastics as an adult lol, 😂but last year the 2023 core hydration classic was on NBC in a large auditorium and this seems so small and I can’t find it anywhere on tv or nbc etc. is this because of a specific reason or was last year special for some reason? Thanks in advance!
She really should’ve started competing last year so this year was fine tuning and perfecting everything. These routines are not 2 months out of Olympic trials ready.
And she has time to refine by core classics and nationals so you can’t say what she will do in her next competition. She’s been gone for 8 years the nerves are still there let her cook first.
Gabby is a legend, but she is not making the Olympics team. If she wants to keep competing for fun, that's great! And maybe she could make some other international assignments, but she's not even close to being olympic ready.
I know some retired gymnasts have started messing around in the gym for fun just to realize they miss the sport so they start training seriously again. I wonder exactly when she made the 100% commitment to this comeback? Gabrielle is a wonderful athlete! She is so talented, and I wish her nothing but happiness!! Even tho it breaks my heart, I don't see her making this team either 😢
I wonder if she will bring back her tuck full on beam. That used to be her bread and butter. Either way, I'm glad to see her back in the mix no matter what happens.
This routine lacked luster for me. She was once amazing and it’s okay for her to retire, open a gymnasium, and teach young girls this awesome sport❤️ijs… no harm no foul
Well she’s not going to retire until she feels like it … she’s been gone for 8 years ofc it’s not going to be perfect wait until she competes next week before you write her off
Agreed. She's an icon, but her time is up now. She made 2 Olympic teams and was amazing in both. But it is really really evident from this competition that she's nowhere even close to being ready.
@@eliseperron1928 Yup, I don't think other countries are a threat to US team. Italy is looking like a potential silver medalist but they are as inconsistent as Brazil / China.
She scored a 14.000 for a vault that Jade Carey or Jordan Chiles would have gotten 14.2-14.3. First meet back and she showed nerves but still promise. There is still time to sharpen things. But…..the reality is this will be TOUGH!
Gabby has her full beautiful adult body now, and can still move well. It’s gonna take a lot, but it can be done. Because I remember when only tiny teenagers with undeveloped bodies were the main competitors, but I don’t see anything wrong with pushing the age & full womanly body envelope!😂❤❤❤
Why do you only blame the coaches? She’s 28, not a child, and this is 2024 when everyone has a cellphone with camera to record herself, not the ‘80s when nobody had a video camera. Not to mention that she can obviously also read the damn point of points. Is the coach to be blamed? Yes, as much as she is.
Unfortunately, being a former Olympic AA champion doesn't guarantee one a spot on the team competing in Paris. Even Simone has to show she's ready. Despite her amazing comeback, there are other more consistent athletes that can jump into the lineup last minute and be counted on to score higher than Douglas, simply by virtue of their higher start value, performed with less deductions.
@@HazelAmarie agreed. If you take away the falls, she would’ve gotten a 53.650. Meaning she would’ve gotten 3rd. Maybe even higher without the out of bounds.
@@amethyst.panthertrue .. nonetheless it’s good to see her back!!! Just haz to get those nerves out and come back fiercely for core classics and I’m sure she can do that!!!
@@colesmith7509And they’re saying this for a gymnast who hasn’t competed in 8 years yet still qualified to nationals with falls??? Her scoring potential is through the roof .. if she hits and gets back into the rhythm of things she can definitely make this team. It’s the fact that y’all are always so quick to write her off rather than congratulate her for even attempting to do this shit again.
@@georgetteeley5061 no I can see that she is no WHERE remotely close to making any team in 3 months time. You’re blind if you can’t also see this. 100 💯 times ten. Like seriously
