A few notes: 1. @0:16 those are Galaxy Buds+, not Buds Pro. 2. After filming, we learned that we have finally found replacement 1254 button-cell batteries to sell in our store! You can find them at the link in the description. 3. The reassembled buds work perfectly, and the sound quality doesn't seem to have been affected by displacing the speaker driver.
HATE TO SEE YOUR VIDEOS JUST BECAUSE OF YOUR VOICE VARIABLES, WHEN YOU RECORD YOURSELF, THE VOICE IS PERFECT BUT WHEN YOU TALK WHILE TEAR DOWN, FEELS LIKE YOU ARE TALKING INSIDE THE WATER
Ear phone "crazy engineering" wouldn't entail modular components, crazy engineering is making all the IC's integrated. Using lego-style connectors takes up valuable space.
It’s good but I would think that probably 99.99999 percent of people including me would just go buy another pair without trying to fix them and chance scratching the outside or breaking something on the inside or not being able to glue them back good enough to still be water resistant. Or even be able to glue them back at all because of a chance of warping it by using a vise grip.
@Michael Kevin Millet lmao, repair costs they charge so much. And they be like "oh sorry you cant afford? Its ok oay apple care EVERY MONTH so, the 0.1% chance u spoil your item and want to repair, u can have a small discount"
Am an Apple guy.. But Am pretty damn sure my next earphones gonna be this one... just because of it’s repairability. I have an airpods but the right one battery is facked.. and u know the rest story..
Most peoplle never need to repair airpods. You are making sure that you will have a worse user expereinnce by sswitching to something that has a feature that you almost certainly wont need
Thank you for this video! I washed and dried my earbuds in the case by accident. The buds were fine, but when I was charging the case it kept saying 0%. I took the whole case apart down to the battery and just had to reconnect the battery connection piece. Put it all back together and they work just like new!
@ If you think phones becoming less repairable and less accessible to the user had to do with "complexity" and not widening manufacturer control and reducing the appeal of repairing a device as opposed to buying the new model, I have a bridge to sell you.
For this Galaxy Buds+ I wasn't expecting this easy teardown, since they came out I thought they were going to be too difficult to get in. It's cool how Samsung combined advanced tech & design with an easy assemble for this high-end product. Since the beginning of the video I was starting to guess the Repairability Score (and I got it right!).
I bought these explicitly because they were repairable after watching this video...2 weeks later they went through the washer and dryer! omg. noooooo... they still worked but the case's battery wouldn't charge the beans anymore (case would charge beans via USB-C or wireless charging though). I took the case apart, nothing really to see that looked wrong, multimeter said battery had 3.7v...put case back together and it works now! SCHWING. This video rocks! The case battery is EB-BR800ABU, apparently it's the same battery as the 46mm Samsung Galaxy Watch. It'd have been super easy to change out if it had been cooked... Thanks iFixit
finally an almost mess-less disassembly, it's good to see a product that is repair/recycle-friendly and not drowned in tons of adhesive for monopoly purpose.
These are my everyday go to wireless earphones. I love how the ANC on these remove just the annoying noises you get on train, airplanes, bus, etc without drowning out all noises making them a great pair of earphones to wear while travelling and exercising. Plus this design is genius. I loved the original airpods because of how easily they fit in my ear without having to squeeze in a rubber/foam tip that becomes uncomfortable after couple hours in ear. But this design fits even better and is even more comfortable and can wear all day long without ear fatigue.
Most people don't understand the ANC used. I agree with your comments. From Samsung website Keep the noise out but let the world in with the first Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) on these open type, true wireless Galaxy Buds Live. ANC reduces background noises without missing what’s important, like voices and announcements, so you hear more of what you want to hear-with just a long press to turn it on.
Wow they teardown was sooo easy and clean I took mine apart to clean them out from the inside. Put them back together and they sound pristine. So glad the battery replacement will be easy when that time comes
what a great review. you guys are really helpful and explains how to disassembly in a detailed way. loved it ! although, it would be nice if you guys mentioned where or if we can find the battery replacement for the case. there's so many tws on the market right now, and they never mentioned about repairability. I follow your teardowns on wireless earbuds and it was an eye-opening to see how most of them designed it to be disposable within 2-3 years. so thanks for this breakdown.
Thank you so much for doing this video. This was the video I was waiting for before deciding in purchasing! Samsung is really putting other brands to shame with how repairable their products are.
I agree but I think they need to relearn some stuff definitely because I have a hunch that the tech is way different in the hearing aid compared to the earphones
Not sure if they actually released a commercial hearing aid, but they've been working on helping people hear better for a while (they make medical devices, too). Apparently they made an app for hearing, some prototype hearing aids, and are preparing to get their Harmon brand into OTC hearing aids. Search for Samsung Earcle or Samsung hearing aid.
It worked!!!!! IT WORKED!!!!! It was all gunked up with wax and now its perfectly crispy once more! At first one of the buds went mute after reassembly but it was because the battery wasnt positioned correctly. The black plastic pasrt has to match the gap on the colorful plastic
A bit nerve racking trying to hold my phones flashlight as a spot light so I could see the tiny spaces and parts better, but I got the right side done and she sounds brand freakin' new! No more fishbowl distortion. 😅 Note to self: get a lighted magnifying lamp so my old tired eyes can see what the heck I'm doing!! 😅😅😅
they are way too slippery for my liking. they sound great. I did find myself adjusting them frequently and I'm not entirely sure why. I got some silicone sleeves that make them fit a tiny bit better and doesn't effect charging. my buds plus once I twisted them into place and I never had to adjust them. the live do sound noticeably better. the ANC is impressive to me. a very novice audiophile. (lowers case a.) do to insomnia I sleep in a bed tent. exactly how it sounds. a low profile tent the exact size as the mattress. anyway, I use a small 18650 rechargeable fan in the tent for circulation. when I activate ANC I can clearly hear the difference. I can usually hear the the hum of the motor and sound of air movement. ANC seems to completely cancel out the hum. its really cool. overall I'm glad I got them. I lost my (R) bud+ a few months back and finally decided to just buy a whole new pair. these in black were on sale for $139 so I grabbed them. nice vid. thanks.
Il be honest i was surprised with how good the buds live sound. Sure my sony ones are better but for the size and price these do a great job. I got them for free as well as a redemption for buying the note 20 ultra.
My wife just washed my blue ones with the case.. Tried drying them really good. The case don't charge a the left one wont charge. I'm might too trash them. I probably go to a Ifixit place before I trash them. Man.... love these buds.
I have the Google Pixel Buds 2nd Gen. Looking forward to seeing a teardown. The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live (Beans) look kinda goofy. I want someone to model them in there ears to see if they really stay in your ears.
To go the extra mile, know that the inside of the lid pops as easily as the bottom part. It's extremely handy as a fall can send the magnet responsible to hold the clam shut on the two magnets holding the buds in place. The tape fixing the aforementioned magnet in place is weaker than the magnetic fields of the two magnets. I am so relieved to have been able to fix the thing myself without breaking the case. HUGE KUDOS to Samsung on this one !
When I saw the battery in the bud, i tried to estimate the battery capacity in the case and came with a number between 1.5 and 2.0 wh. Glad not to have missed by a large margin
@2:22 "One the other side we can see a bunch of chips." Wow, that was very useful. I remember when iFixit used to color and identify each and every chip in a device. Can we go back to that, please. On the plus side, I appreciated seeing the charger teardown.
Hey, I'm a fan from Taiwan. Recently my mom found an old speaker out from cupboard ------ HTC boombass. It was an amazing device with nice bass effect to use with HTC's phones, unfortunately today's phones are not supportable to this speaker, so I'd like to try to disassemble it then change into a real Bluetooth speaker (not only for bass). Wish ifixit could have a video for teardown it. Biggest thanks from Taiwan!!
thank you for sharing the bud tear down, the reason I watched your video as I forgot mine inside my jeans pocket then washed it, I was so desperate so I watched this video, after following the teardown and tried to dry my buds, they are working normally, THANKS, big-time guys!!! (I'm not a repairman) just a normal guy that wants to fix my buds.
Wow. This is going to sound terrible, but I've literally dropped the case down an entire flight of stairs, into a hard wall, and then they bounced in a different direction onto laminate. Never caused an issue. The actual buds went flying directly into a wall at the bottom of the stairs because they got ejected halfway down, and bounced pretty fair. I had to search to see where they shot off to. Cat ran under my foot when I got to the top step and I had to catch myself. Dropped the headphone case that was in my hand. It never caused a sound issue, the case doesn't feel loose at the hinge (it was bouncing while open for half of the flight of stairs), there's no rattle from knocking a speaker loose, it had no disconnecting issues, and I have to tilt the case under a light to find the almost non-existent scuff. The fact that it comes apart that easily really surprised me. I only have 2 issues with it. One of my ear canals is wider than the other, so it has to be maneuvered in a little more snug, and this causes buildup which you have to clean every few months. The other complaint is that the touch pad is extremely sensitive, and it isn't obvious where to tap while it is in. I had a pair of original Galaxy buds and they had a flat surface that was obvious. If you touch the bean near the edge of where it detects finger contact, it can read it as a double tap and skip what you're listening to, or a triple tap and go to the beginning. I use them about 2-6 hrs a night. I listen to music or stories while I paint. When they die, I can set them in the case while I go grab a drink and use the bathroom. By the time you get back you have another hours worth of a charge (albeit I keep them at the normal equalizer setting and do not use any of the ambient features. Those drain them faster). Interesting video. Thank you for the info.
How to made repairing phones possible if they need their phones to be ip68, if possible its only for galaxy s6 and before, removable battery phones and a series phones
Bảo Quốc just like Apple. The iPhones are by far the most repairable high end smartphones out there AND also have the by far highest rating against water with up to 4m (compared to only 1.5m on all Samsung phones). Samsung is just using tons and tons of glue which is completely unnecessary and makes repairability way harder.
I took them apart on my own I do wanna throw a warning be very careful with the motherboards if you have any problems with the case it is very very easy to get into and fix I love it even the hinge is easy to replace
Apple: It's impossible to make wireless earbuds easy to repair, what with them being so small and made of such delicate and fragile parts! Samsung: hold my beans
@@anhnguyenduy6861 as if foxconn is the only factory that has such cases, even Samsung factories have cases of such things. You say fk the environment while apple is planning to use 100% recyclable materials by 2030. The aluminum they use in their products are already 100% recycled aluminum
I feel strongly that 8/10 is too high. They may be more repairable than competitors, but far from easy. Particularly the case which does not face the same design challenges that the buds do. Would probably give them a 6 or maybe 7. There's a lot of progress to be made in this class of device
This teardown answers my questions of how this thing didnt broke from the inside even tho i accidentally dropped it multiple times now.. also the inside looks like a mini phone parts
My GSD chew one of the beans. He basically pop out the covering of it and chew top of the cover whereas bottom part of bud looks pretty intact. It's starting charging but doesn't connect to any device.
