That reviewer from gamespot whose videos get disliked the most lol. She's the one who reviewed last of us 2 and cyberpunk recently and got bombarded to death with dislikes.
This comment is simplistic and CLEARLY just snowballing off of a joke Dunkey already made in previous videos. He didn’t even add a period at the end of his sentence. Joke of a comment. 9.3/10, amazing!
what the fuck is that comparison? yes, you don't need to be a mechanic to realise that your car is broken. just like you don't need to understand game design to see that you don't like the game or that it's bad. the same goes with liking films or books. but you do need to know how the car should work to understand how your car is broken and why it doesn't start. just like you need to understand game design to understand what exactly is wrong with the game and why you didn't like it and someone else might. the same goes for book and film reviewers. or you think that any clueless cunt can write good reviews for games, books and films without understanding how they work?
@@DorkN313 First: Why are you so angry? Second: If the game if filled with bugs and defects how does the broken car comparison not apply? And arguably, yes, anyone can make a decent review or critique as long as they phrase in a way that makes sense. You don't need any qualifications aside from a functioning brain, hands, and eyeballs to type down a review.
Title of Video: "Why Dunky is an unfunny and uneducated RU-vid critic" 2 minutes in: "Again I've never really seen one of his videos, and I dont plan to"
I was watching the part about the disconnect between the review and the score and suddenly it dawned on me. The critics want to criticise the game but they know that 99% will only watch the video for the score at the end, so not to anger everyone they "hide" their critiques in the video while giving a decent score at the end, so the person who actually watches the video knows the truth and the one that just skips to the end for validation is also satisfied. It's total bs but I guess it's the only way to satisfy everyone
@@stellabjerkered569 it doesn’t work like that. They just want to keep the companies as sponsors. No gaming company is directly giving money to someone for giving a higher score
The reason critics don’t give low scores is fear of being blackballed by industry people as well as being hounded by a rabid vocal minority of gamers. Ie none of what you said.
The guy said he knows nothing about game design but right when his review starts he cuts away from the part where he talks about the fucking game design. I really don’t understand this fucking guy 😂
i feel like if one person has played the game, and the other hasnt, theres an automatic, i guess you could say, point gain . while an argument could still be made, most points would just be null.
yeah seriously, how are you gonna talk about a game and be like, well OBVIOUSLY he just doesnt see all these great things about this game i've never played
The thing is, dunkey reviews games based on what HE thinks of it and not some general unspoken rule of "if a lot of people like it, I should like it too".
@@antoniomendes7961 Yeah cause that was the consensus for a long while and even now anyone who even remotely defended the game was shot down by people for running the SJW agenda or having no taste in games, when I read the leaks I was in the same spot and was giving the finger to anyone who was defending the story but then I got the game and connected the dots, put some context behind those bullet points and it all made perfect sense to me and I'm on my third playthrough now. I only watch 2 gaming channels who have similar taste to mine one of them being Dunkey and they both gave it just a little something less than full marks even though Dost Kayaoğlu who does this job around 10 years admitted he did his best to downrate the game so the audience won't target him but it just would be unfair to rate even less than what it is. As Druckmann said, the game is divisive so it should be normal that some of us stand at one side of the line and rest on the other side.
@@antoniomendes7961 there are only a few minor reasons to hate the game, mostly stemming from bandwagoning redditors who call anyone who disagrees with them an SJW. people had a lot of homophobic hatred because it had LGBTQ in the story, and the typical “we don’t need to see that, that’s gross” response arised.
Now who the fuck said you where allowed to disagree with duungee or laugh. He only makes the most perfectly orchestrated points and hits hard with to the point razer sharp facts. Laughing at dunglys words is like pissing in the face of a lion. The man is a genies and is the only one smart enough to understand how perfect Knack 2 is.
I often disagree with Dunkey myself, but his opinion doesn't invalidate mine and I enjoy seeing where he's coming from. It's not about him agreeing with me, it's about how he sees things and expresses himself, and in that regard, a difference in opinion is preferable.
honestly, I think this is what we all need to at least try once; maybe then Twitter would actually be a hospitable social media site ... if such a thing is possible
Yep, this is why he emphasizes consistency in voice so much between the two videos. Even if someone has bad opinions or opinions you disagree with, the consistency of that voice gives you a metric to measure the things they're talking about (The legend of Armond White explains this).
This is one of my favorite Dunk vids. Only he could come back after his most controversial video, double down on his original statement, and come out the other side untouched. Absolute legend.
I really disagree with your review of this video. The video isn't bad at all and you're just being nitpicky. Go home with your salt. No one wants it. But then again, I haven't played Octopath Traveller.
The comment from the video you are meme-ing on genuinely disturbed me. How can anyone be so ignorant... although Dunkey's point about inflated review scores by all the big name media outlets helps provide an answer.
I remember when I was upset with your review for Death Stranding. I had a personal connection to aspects of the game. It provides structure, and my life didn't have that. Slowly figuring out how to navigate a harsh landscape, although boring, in the long run was something very satisfying to me. I could relate to those long 'walks', whenever it's getting over bad thinking patterns or forgetting someone you loved. I associated those emotions and sensations of connection with the gameplay, and I felt a need to defend it. You didn't have my perspective, and you couldn't have. A lot of context is tied with Death Stranding and why I like it. The story sucks, none of the interesting ideas are articulated in any meaningful way, and progression feels more like a haul or chore rather than something I looked forward to. I'm a nutball who has so many hauls in my own life and feel a deep satisfaction over getting up that hill and seeing the sunshine. How structures are printed, the sounds in the interface, the sorting, stacking, and planning allowed my unstable mental structure to follow patterns I could understand. But your review was not wrong. Not at all. Death Stranding is boring and a post-apocalyptic blue collar simulator is not very appealing like Mario, Uncharted, Battle Royales. The slowness and careful, methodical gameplay is something I find fun, but I understand how that is not appealing.
I think it's important to realise that at the end of the day, video games are made to be enjoyed and give someone a good experience. If a game managed to resonate with just one person then, even in the most insignificant way, it succeeded. You can argue about 'game feel' and 'immersion' all you want, but fun is fun, and nothing that any critic says can ever change that. You can step back and look at any game and notice the flaws but nothing beats the experience - sitting down and actually playing the game.
This is my favourite video among all your critical content. it's wild how it definitely fell on deaf ears for many people, even your own fans. I mean seriously it was downright ironic when the "i stop listening to dunkey" template they meme it to death, yet they're guilty of the same behavior when you gave your thoughts on The Last of Us 2. Its like sometime when people talk shit, they dont look at themselves in the mirror.
Most people that watch these reviews already bought the game in question. They just wanna hear that it’s good so they can justify the $10-60 they just spent.
InvertedReaper Especially if the game is Terrible; and they have buyers remorse. They need some confirmation from others to feel less about their stupidity for buying it.
I haven't watched the star wars prequels but I know enough about them to call blatant lies. It's like you people forget things can be looked up quickly
ecruz747 it’s not about that , it’s the fact that you’re willing to seriously criticize someone’s opinion of a product you haven’t played , the fact that he didn’t even bother to play it speaks highly of his rather idiotic sense of critique
@@Cruz7471 nah, in terms of RPG games like octopath, you cannot say you know that RPG unless youve actually played it. Theres so much things that go into RPG games, the grinds the quests, etc. Unless youve watched some dude stream who literally caters to the commentators comments i.e. if I tell you to talk to that NPC you talk to that NPC, or if I tell you to buy that god damn potato 1000 times, and you actually buy it. Thats like saying, because Michael Phelps decided to livestream an entire swimming session for 3 hours magically, you know how to swim.
@@factspeaker8518 Sonic 06 is notoriously known for being bad, but the reason it is that way is only because many people talk about it. Octopath doesn't have that same luxury, you can't know the specifics of what you're talking about unless you've played it yourself and have firsthand experience with it, else you're just joining the crowd and bandwagoning based on conjecture, rather than actual facts and experience. That's not journalism, and it certainly doesn't make for a good review or critique of someone else's.
Pretty much, I ignored all of the warning signs about Anthem but still bought it and was disappointed but I forced myself to play that piece of shit so I didn’t look like such a dumbass. Am still dumbass.
We all do, when we think something is good/bad we check the general opinion to see if it matches our opinion and then, if it doesn't, we may state if we agree or disagree. But that's how things should work, there's actually nothing wrong with that. The problem comes when someone isn't able to listen or to accept other's opinions and just rant about how wrong others people is in a way that doesn't add anything to the discussion.
Coming back to this video years later and god damn is it brilliant. 4:19 basically sums up game reviews purpose to the majority of the gaming audience. People don't really give a fuck about retrospection they just want people to agree with them. I remember when reviews were supposed to be useful for telling you wether or not a game was actually worth your time and money.
Dunkey you've fallen victim to one of the classic blunders. People don't go to reviews to see how good/bad the game is, they go to make sure everyone else agrees with their already existing opinion.
I love how Dunkey is NOT afraid of showing that some people may not like him, and that he is perfectly ok with showing that he does not like other people.
I understand IGN on giving reviews like this, because most people dont care about the pros and cons told in the video, they just skip to the rating part and see the number and leave a hate comment and dislike the video if it isnt 9 or higher. The fact that the largest videogame news website has to do this shows how toxic the videogame community is.
Don't forget about the extreme lengths the gaming community will commit just because they didn't like a game. Instead of just saying "the game wasn't my cup of tea" and moving on,they decide to send death threats to developer's and making up false narratives. In short: THE GAMING COMMUNITY IS FUCKIN ATROCIOUS.
Yeah but while doing this IGN gives out false reviews and it can make someone end up buying a game they end up hating. IGN should be doing reviews if they only care about appeasing everyone because that simply can’t happen
@@Shmoovin79 that is exactly what happened to me. I saw IGN's pokemon sword and shield review and bought it because thay gave it a 9.2 or something. Now I am stuck with that boring game for a year and half. Even if IGN gave it a 6 or something the video would be dislike bombed and the comments would say IGN lied and I would still bought that.
That review really proves the point that ign will never be able to make unbiased reviews even if they wanted to, because if they do they'll get shit on until the end of time.
@@EmKunWeebGaming I've played Octopath Traveler. I disagree with Dunkey. It was pretty good. No, wait, the game I played was called "Octopus Tablature." I've never played Octopath Traveler and have no opinion on it.
A couple months ago I was flipping through my old yearbook from a couple years back, and was shocked to see that one of the senior quotes was “you are nitpicking and biased. I win. Bye bye”
He just read the comments on Dunkey's video and saw all the people who enjoyed the game yet can't handle criticism and anyone who says anything bad about something they personally enjoyed has their opinion automatically invalidated. So he took the opportunity to jump on that bandwagon and get some clicks off it
Its weird tho because Dunky did not counter any of this guy's points. He Just cut a bunch of clips up of him saying "I did not play the game" But those videos aren't even about Octopath Traveler they are about Dunky and how he reviews games. Dunky missed the entire point. Still Love Dunky tho.
@@calebflores3389 if i say i don't like the game just by seeing it that means i hated it before even trying it. But if i didn't like the game that means i played the game and hated it. I dont know if i was able to differentiate the "don't like" and didn't like" the game
Rafael Sotuyo Not really, I think Dunkey really nailed it on the head here. I could write a thesis for a degree in psychology by doing a case study of /v/. The entire point of being for a gamer is to hate everything or be as contrarian as humanly possibly.

some people dont watch game reviews for the objective criticism, they just wanna hear someone say nice things about games they like so they can feel validated
@@chandlerruoff6866 That's the problem with his Octopath Traveler video, though... It isn't objective criticism at all. It's him attacking the entire JRPG genre because he hates it. Most of the things he was complaining about are staples of the Genre. Octopath has loads of problems and is super overrated, but for literally none of the reasons he stated. He also proved numerous times during the video (and with the notorious snail thing), that he didn't even have an understanding of *how* to play it.
Random nobodies on Twitter think they can rebuke Dunkey in 140 characters by using a few buzzwords. Saying "biased" or "Dunkey doesn't understand X" is basically a child's argument. Have you ever met someone who recently learned the names of a few cognitive errors? That's all that was on those twitter posts. A few keywords without any meaningful context or explanation. May as well have said "I disagree with Dunkey" and called it a day.
I have been watching Dunkey's content for weeks now... I have to say this man is hilarious and speaks a lot of truth.
