Game Quickie - SimAnt 

Brings me back, i played this when I was like 12 but never learned how to play properly. These classic games are nostalgic.

I loved this game so much growing up. Hours and hours of gameplay.

I had SimAnt before and it seemed impossible to finish! I kept getting killed when I went out for food, Red Ants kept invading my home and steeling the food and I wasn't able to start a mating cycle- or whatever it's called. I found the game pretty fun and addicting, though. :)

played the hell out of this game as a kid. i remember trying to draw up the perfect ant nest at school so i could dig it out when i got home.

I remember playing this game all the time but getting tired of playing it cause it took too long :D But I didn't know everything that there was to it when I played it... oh so many years ago haha. Thank you once again for another amazing retro video :D

I had Sim Ant on SNES, and it wasn't much different. I always used to make barricades out of pebbles to starve the red queen, but now I feel silly knowing that they will just kill themselves anyways.

I'm not watching this, but how'd I know this was gonna be a sim game?! O.o I love those games (and have been a fan since a few months ago).

Being 10 and obsessed with ants made this one of my favorite games growing up. You're right though, this game is way too easy for adults. Experimental mode is still fun!

Rinry you are awesome for this review. I haven't heard or seen this game since the 90's and anyone I've ever mentioned it to had never even heard of it :)

A RTS about ants would make a refreshing change from tanks!

This was great! I was thinking about trying to play this again because I have really fond memories of beating it as a kid. But you're right, I should just leave them as memories since there has been a couple of old games that have really disappointed me when I replayed them recently.

Still have this game on disks, used to love making large tunnels and such I am in no hurry to return however But the game was as i said great back in the day

Haha, SimAnt. Definitely one of my childhood memories. I used to have an old Windows 3.1 computer that my dad loaded with tons of shareware. Everything from Commander Keen to Doom, to Descent to Jazz Jackrabbit and so on. Out of curiosity, have you ever heard of Hocus Pocus? It's this fun little sidescroller where you play as a wizard apprentice in a quest to restore order to the world of magic. Fun little game. :)

They should remake this and add a multiplayer option. That would fix all the difficulty problems, hopefully.

I used to have the "Windows" version of this game really liked it back then. Yeah it was easy but still fun to mess around with.

I remember when all the Sim games came out. I had Sim City 2000. I loved it. But not as much as Sim City for SNES

Hmm. Never had a chance to play this growing up, which is a shame because I was a huge fan of all of the obscure Sim games back then (Sim Copter, anyone?).

Geez! Who knew an edutainment game could be so complicated? Despite how easy this sounds, it still looks complicated. Good thing you don't need to play it properly for your ants to take over, right? Nice little vid, very informative for how short it is.

Wow. I remember playing this. What I do not remember is ever succeeding, or expanding or anything. I guess the whole time, I was on experiment mode. Well, if you say I shouldn't try digging this up and playing it again, maybe I should not.

the SNES version is much more difficult and after playing the PC version I like the SNES more. The red ants put up a lot more of a fight and spread much faster too. Where in the PC you could breed a bunch of mating ants and take over multiple patches the SNES has you progressing much slower. If anything it might be TOO slow in its progression but with cheerful BG music playing all the time and many of the same challenges I think it's still a really fun game. I tried the PC version and beat it in a single sitting over a day then returned to the SNES version that took me about a week of playing. It was more fulfilling and I felt more involved with my ants and their attempts to take over the yard. If you haven't played the SNES version Rinry I advise you to and then come back and let me know what you thought of it because it's kind of rare to encounter anyone who enjoys this game. (Or even knows of it)

I actually played that game before but the only reason I stopped was because of a picture of a spider that shows up so often. I hate spiders and it scares me when I see it!

Oh, man, I loved this game as a kid! I played it ALL THE TIME. I tried the SNES port recently, and it was still fun, but I missed using the mouse all the time. Didn't they have a hard mode in this game? Maybe I'm wrong.

i would love for them to make a recreation of this game but with newer graphics and harder gameplay. I loved this game on my iMac computer when i was five and older (it runs on os 8.6 and still works) maybe if i find the disc ill install the game onto my powerbook g3 which runs the same os 8.6 operating system. Why not play this game again I enjoyed getting killed all the time I loved the animations in it. I could also not really read that well at the time so it was a really fun experience for me.

Not even a shout out to the SNES Port? For the record the SNES port is quit a bit different in many ways and the red ants are ruthless. It is quite difficult.
