Often overlooked, cleaning the brake caliper brackets is an important step to take when replacing the brake pads, calipers or rotors or anytime the caliper is off the vehicle. By completing this key step, you’ll avoid comebacks due to noise and calipers that are hung up. Follow along as Master Trainer Ryan Payne of Garage Gurus takes you through the process of cleaning brake caliper brackets.
From taking the abutment clips off and scrubbing off any rust or burrs to making sure the slide pins freely move, Ryan demonstrates this important procedure. Once the caliper and clips are free of rust and old grease, Ryan shows how to put the caliper back together, including where to apply brake lubricant. Count on Garage Gurus to help you get your vehicle repair done right. Visit Garage Gurus at www.garageguru... for more tips and information for your vehicle.

Amazing. In top three most important brake videos on You Tube. No one has taken the time to slowly go over the steps to clean and install clips.

Thank you SO MUCH. You showed many things other clips do not. You are very straight to the point. Shame you only have 156 likes.

Changing to drilled and slotted can introduce some growl, let people know what they are getting into when making changes.

Talking about patroleum-based grease, it seems to dry out and cause seizing of the guide pins.

That bracket was exactly as you get it from the part store. Everything is new and there's NEVER enough grease on the guide pins. The Salt Belt really is a different world...

You don't want to grease the 'sliding surface' on the bracket as it will collect dirt...the grease will dry up over time and then get stuck at the end area with no place to go. Check yourself after a few years on your own car, you'll see the dried up grease build up at the end of the sliding surface area and understand then it's better not to grease that part. Just letting it rust will be better as that rust will not build up and fall off, blow away instead of the grease. Sounds strange I know but there's YT videos I cannot find right now demonstrating this. Don't panic please....your brakes won't fail 🙂 because of the grease....they'll slide more/better though over time without grease at the bracket sliding surface.

Can you help me please? I have problem with my guiding pins. I clean the wells with WD40 and Q-tips. Then I use the SilGlyde lubricant, I put very little, very thin layer. And yet, next time I check, guide pins are seized. I noticed that the rubber dust boots on the top make airtight seal. Yes, the guide pins have 3 flat channels, to allow air to escape, but it does not. When I install them, I push all the way in, and they bounce back. One of the guide pins have a cut out near the bottom where the anti-vibration rubber rings should be. If I put these rubber bends, I can not push the guide pins at all. They get stuck at the base of the dust boots. Any idea?

Thoroughly clean out guide pin holes. Replace rubber bushings on guide pins. Use Sil Glide only and NEVER on the tip of the guide pin, just the sides.
