A video about the Garmin fail and you could've edited out the first 12 minutes as they had nothing to do with the Chronograph. Then after all is said and done, you set the thing up wrong. Need to retitle the video, Garmin Chonograph OPERATOR FAIL...
Oh noes!! The Garmin has to be positioned just right to get the shot??? Isn't that what we had to do with the LabRADAR too that everyone was complaining about having to do? lol
I find it ironic, too. My labradar worked near flawless when aligned properly. I did sell it and bought the garmin, 1 session with it, I sold it and bought the labradar lx. Not that I had issues with the garmin. It just felt like a cheap, slapped together toy.
My garmin had a hell of a time reading my 6.8 western browning factory ammo shooting the 175 sierra gamechangers. I shot 20 and only got 7 readings after playing around with positioning. 3 other rifles that day did not drop a shot regardless of where the garmin was. Something about that browning ammunition or sierra bullet which is weird cuz those gamechangers in other calibers I have did not drop shots either. My 6.8 reloads with nosler ballistic tips read fine! It was weird
Any signs of pressure with the 59.5 - 60.5 gr chg.? You can get velocity of of groups once you pick your charge. I usually find where primers get flatter and back off .3 to .5 gr. I find my 270 just does better as you push faster. The projectiles your testing really interest me as does the powder your using. I’ve been a 4064 and 4831 lover but clearly newer powders are getting a faster push without over pressuring. Hopefully you can reply on what signs of pressure were your cases showing ? Btw my Garmin is also muzzle blast sensitive as are most all radars. I made the same kind of discovery when I got my Garmin. I was shooting beaucoup 22LR ammo for first couple range trips. Then I brought 5.56 and 30-06 and found my 6” back and to right of muzzle had a couple missed shots with 5.56, I wasn’t too flustered. Then the 30-06 wouldn’t read a shot. I cussed, reset Garmin fps scales from the slower set for RF stuff to where it was supposed to be for CF rifle velocities. Well then Infound the 5.56 numbers to be more like values you’d expect but still had 3 missed shots out of 7 captured. Then with the 30-06, no readings….. That’s when I started to pack up, moved the Garmin on bench and decided to show little brother wtf Garmin was doing. Fired 3 rounds, 2905, 2913, 2909! I looked at lil bro and said some choice words then saw the Garmin was like 10” to right, about a foot back closer to me shooting and aimed off a bit. Turned it straight, reset to another string and the next 5 shots were ES 11 and SD I forget but it was very near my original data off the old sky screen wired chrono. It was at this point I decided to set it 10in right and 10” back. Hasn’t missed a shot since even with pistols as well as rifles. Don’t feel bad at least you kept your frustrations to a family friendly form. I too felt as though I had lost all credibility on earth for overlooking what I’d read 10 times on the 5-15 in spacing range. I was saying all along that you either had vel range scaled wrong or you had blast preventing reading. Violas you reinforced the later AND now I know I’m not the only knothead with a Garmin, lol/. Great vid!
It seems like I have better luck when I push my .270 faster as well. I wasn’t seeing any signs of pressure that would indicate any issue. When I use Superformance powder I definitely get better results the faster I push it.
I able to get 3000 fps with 130gr using 4064. I’d like to see 3100-3200 because they just seem to group better as they speed up. With 155gr in 270 I get 2875 fps with 4831, can’t get more into case and am seated into lands just off by .0015 (my node). Both are 1/2” at 100yds which has been OK for my hunts. Never shot at gem beyond 275yds and that kill was 1-1/2 right of hold with a mild crosswind of 6mph. I WOULD LIKE TO EXPERIMENT AGAIN WITH 270 so thts why I’m asking you about these bullets
I need to order myself some of those cases. I got the email, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. 270 Winchester is the greatest cartridge in the history of mankind!
Did you watch the entire video. At the end of the session he indicated “Operator Error”. He wasn’t’ positioning the Garmin correctly in relation to the barrel.
